Same Vein As The Eleanor Cars But Awesome.
Ben-89 replied to B.L.Z.BUB's topic in Automotive Discussion
I think that looks better than the original HQ did. Looks very muscle car with that menacing front end. -
Hey Jordan I'm glad you liked the thread, when it comes to cars does it really finish? this thread will be going for a while mate!

Nice buy Evan, try (phils aus rotaries on ebay) for rubbers on the ke55. So whats the go with the repaired ke55? scraping it etc?
-
No worries Matt, it makes it all worth while showing these cars to people who people who appreciate them. Actually, before taking the ke out I gave it its usual wipe over with a large bucket filled with luke warm water and a chamois and the colour of the water was dark by the time I finished. Its hard to belive how dusty a car can get in a closed environment. Maybe I should put it in a carcoon with mothballs :fuzz: It will be cool when a group of us guys meet up for photos and maybe lunch somewhere :y: Here is a photo of my Grandma and the two machines - It made her day.

No worries mate, anytime.

Brief update, the AE71's fuel tank, diff/axle assembly, cross member, engine splash tray and lower control arms etc,etc have been given a lush coat of gloss black. Photos to follow.

Matt what can I say, the two blokes above took the words right out of my mouth. Where were these photos taken? Are you in at you're dads workshop tomorrow? If so p.m me with the address as i'll be in the area.

All in good time mate, the more time you take the better the result will be.

The front nose is a little longer to incorporate the "slant" front, but thats as far as it goes. All the other external dimensions are the same. Heres a fact though: Early model ke70's (flat front) have a seating capacity of 4 occupants. While late model ke70 and ae71 (slanty) have a capacity of 5.

With the dents taken out and badges replaced and rego this could fetch some good money quite easily. This is how I see it, while the majority want to build a drifter, fewer of the originals in good condition will be left so they will appreaciate in good time. Its happening now, so even if you left it in a shed and drove it once a week for the next few years the value will go up.

Too good

Ohhh yeah, now we're talking!!!! That has come up a treat, its a good idea you are giving it a second polish with some cream/wax polish, it will be like a lolly. Bumpers and tyres came up a beauty. Both of my Corollas I repainted my rims too, but I used Septone wheel paint in wheel silver, and on the ke I used VHT "aluminium" finish paint. The silver finishes from these two products wont give you that cheap blingy look like the chaep export stuff. Lastly, pull off your centre caps and polish them you'll see the difference. Loving the progress mate!

ok so get rid of those strips and jus put a black pinstripe (long tape sticker thingy) half way up where the groove in the door  Perfecto Ive seen the photos of the dent close up, but when you look at the whole roof how big is the dent? Would you be able to get away with putting touch up paint over the actuall scratches. Or maybe give the car to a panel beater who can repair the dent and blend it into the roof with fresh paint. It depends on how much its of a concern.
-
Those strips arent even the originals anyway, just bin them and buy a roll of a thin black strip and lay half way up the panels/doors. I misunderstood when you referred to your other car and thought you were talking about mine. Looking forward to the progress mate.

Thanks for the comments guys. When I bought the car the rear bar was preety wavy in the centre, so I took it off and with a piece of hard wood on the inside of the bar and a sledge hammer I got back most of the original shape. But still the top part was slightly higher. So with a bit of my own weight and some else securing the rear bar I jumped up and down on it until I got as best as I could. Finding a straight rear bar let alone a front one isnt easy, so what I've done will suffice for now until a nice one pops up. As this photo is a clear zoom in of the rear it looks a little more obvious, but in person its not that bad.

Wow great progress mate! Keep up the good work, such a transformation in little time. Are you putting all the spirit striping and rub strips back on, or are you leaving it as is once painted? Good job :D

Nah Mitch, none of mine are bashers - no bloody way. The white one is an se (optioned up) 132.000km , the red ae71 is a cs (no options except for the mud flaps like yours and thats it. 195.000 km A good car for $200.00 :D

The moulding should be half way up the door, you'll see a groove that travels down along side the car. Really though, the se model never came with mouldings or pinstripes from the dealer. It was a customer request to have it optioned up. On first glance mine looks like a cs (mid spec) as its got all the extras. Look at my ke for reference to the mouldings.. What can't you get off the wheel exactly? all that black build up of sweat and grease? Just replace the wheel with a tan one and you'll be laughing. :D Also what are you're front door cards like? Do they have speakers in them, if not you are preety lucky as most including my previous cards had them put in due to there being no map pockets to interfere with installation. It took me 3 years to find identical se ones for my car. :P

Mitch, like what Dropz and I said earlier give it a thorough detailing all over (interior, exterior and engine bay) then once its scrubbed up just start thinking about getting the roof dent removed, the best way would be paintless dent removal where they pop it out and you can just touch it up with some touch up paint. Maybe the dent below the bootlid can be pulled out with something like a slide hammer, as that section is quite flexible it wouldnt take much to straighten out. Actually you could probably push it out without going to the extremes of unsing a slide hammer. One thing I would carefully remove on the exterior of the car would be the door strips, the position they are in are useless due to them being too low, I'd be inclined to leave the car as clean as possible. If you have the following you'll be laughing. 1, Electric buffing machine 2, Cutting compound paste- the type you water down jut don't burn or thin out the paint. 3, Cream/wax polish which you apply last after the car had the "actual" cut and polish 4, Armourall - Dashboard, console, bumpers, grille and engine bay etc 5, Degreaser- Even though its a low km engine, it will be still dirty so a bit of this around the engine bay wont hurt. (just cover the electricals) 6, Tyre shine - pointless having an immaculate car and the tyres are all shabby, so a squirt of this wii make them like new again. To do the above wouldnt take too long, if you're lucky maybe you're dad or a mate can help but as the car isnt regoed I'd just take my time doing it properly. Heres a link to an ae71 I bought which needed a fair bit of love make it shiny again. I also have a ke70 se like you're too so there are quite a few pics. Heres just a quick photo the ke70's bay... http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...24805&st=30

Now thats was I was thinking Matt! Every second weekend I'm free so it would be preety cool if we could organise something like this. Even if its around the Brunswick area its perfect as there are a few industrial backdrops around which are quite effective. Who else do you think would be interested? Any other locations in mind?

And more..... One thing is missing though, more Corollas of any model would make the photos even better.
-
I took the ke out for a run and brought the ae71 along for some photos. There can never be enough photos....

Since I have been on here I purchased a new boot rubber, as the old will be thrown out when I have the above metal replacements welded in. Prior to me owing the white ke70, it had a rear muffler replacement but it wasnt what you'd call a standard muffler as it was preety droney. Anyway after a few months I decided to replace it with an oem unit and store this under the house. Then when I had the ae71 I remembered that I still had the system under the house, so in no time was the car in the air before the systems swapped over. Once everything was bolted, hung and cleaned up it was time to hear the results. A very nice hum or purr could be heard from the 4ac, while driving it sounds good too without being too intrusive or droney like it was in the ke. But importantly its in the lagal limits and still looks standard! Here are some photos.

Hey Mate, very nice ke70 you have there. Despite having a dent on the roof, this is one of the fewer low km ke70s that are clean and straight. I would look for a rougher ke to modify instead of this one. Nothing a thorough wash and detail wouldnt fix. Then sell it off and make some $ on it, or ultimatley keep it in a shed for a few years and let it appreciate further.
