:rolls: where abouts were the wind deflectors, were they for an ae71?
-
Hey Jesse bought these on ebay and thought you may be interested.... Snoop around on ebay to see if you can find some headlight covers for the 71' they shoudnt be anymore than $40.00 and are brand new.
-
I had enough of the drone with the sports muffler on the ae71, I think being coupled with an auto didnt help the matter either. So I put the standard system back on and am very pleased to leave it as is now The 71 is sporting a set of new tires in preparation for winter as the previous cheapies on there were diabolical in the wet - enough said! and a set of brand new reproduction head light covers all for $30.00, couldnt be happier. Exhaust change over again. Voila. New tires. New headlight covers. The diff, fuel tank and front steering components have been given a few coats of gloss black after these pics were taken, so more will be added.

The best a standard manual ke70 will do we be high 19's to 20's secs for the quarter mile. An ae71 manual - in stock condition will pull between 18.5 secs consistantly. Nice ke70 by the way, and the wheels look tough.

I'm going to get real nitty gritty...... The hi cam 4k engine has the following differences: 1, Different air filter assembly and duct pipe which goes out through the front wheel arch as opposed so sucking air in from behind the battery. 2, Revised emissions gear, visually there are fewer valves hanging off the hicam fitler housing compare to the series one ke70 4k unit which had more valves and hoses. 3, On the drivers' side strut tower is prvisions for a vacuum valve for the hi cam models which is joined to the dizzy assembly. Non hi cam models had this. 4, Hi cam ke70s have a different radiator (finer core), instead of having a plastic fan cowl which covers the whole back of the radiator, the hicam models only had a tin plate tacked to the top tank so the fan had more exposure and quieter operating i.e less fan noise. 5, Hi cam engines had a viscous clutch fan, instead of a constant drive fan, again for more efficent and quiet running. 6, A slightly larger diameter exhaust system than a non hi cam ke70. 7, recalibrated camshaft, igintion, emission and carby system for better performance and drivability. The hi cam engine if anything was slightly more flexible to compare to the non hicam engine in terms of revving out, but only slightly. Lastly, power and torque figures were up from 47kw and 98nm to 49kw and 100nm from all these mods... Now that should answer youre question, Ben.

To clear this up all slanty front ke70's and ae71's had the adjuster lever at the front for the fore/aft position. Flat front ke70's had both levers on the side. And the seat and mechanism in youre car is original Jesse.

Hey Jesse, Perfect base for a nice daily driver! In the photos the car looks silver, or is it that light metallic green. If either colour was repsprayed nicely this car would be an absolute pearler. *I'll be watching this one closely mate.*
-
I saw this at the tyre factory in thomastown after two this afternoon, when having the the tires on the ae71 repalced. Looked very nice upon a quick glance.
-
Let me know when you want to polish it up :jamie: bloody overrated it will be.
-
Thats a late model ke70 wagon, hence the slanty front. Also has the hi cam badge.

Two cars are plenty for me Jesse, they're headturnes as they are. How is you're one coming along?

Hi Des, the ae71 averages between 9.5-11.5l/100km. Personally I think it could be better, but being an automatic and having an autochoke which takes a bit longer to go off than a manual type its not too bad. Also a majority of my driving is city cycle which wouldnt help. I've sat on the freeway with it and its bearable, but still it would have an effect on the fuel economy due to having 3 gears. I don't thrash my cars, but occasionally I give them the "cleanout". I gave it new oil, oil filter, air filter, leads, points, rotor button, plugs, timing belt, timing is 110% perfect and gave the carby some carby cleaner. It runs smooth and is responsive so I pleased regardless.

I think you'll need to take me for a spin Matt :)

Did A T18 Have Left Hand Side Mirrors?
Ben-89 replied to 19914afc's topic in TExx Corolla Discussion
Hi Jake, Yes t-18's came with a left hand mirror. From what I have seen imported Toyotas of that vintage had items like that as standard. -
Haha, I'm happy with the consumption Matt! I can't recall any oil pressure issues though? maybe someone else?

Well, in the four years Iv'e the ke70 I have never driven this far. It ran that well it put a swiss watch to shame.... The engine was preety quiet with the 4 speed coupled behind it on the freeway and I could've driven like that for days no problems. I was a little suprised at the fuel economy around 165km into the trip as my needle dropped just below half, before rising back to full as the kilometers acculilated. Drove to Brunswick today and stopped to fill up 1km from home where the trip meter read 379.4 km. 25.95 L of fuel went in when it automatically clicked off indicating it was full. So with a handy site on the net I put in the numbers to see how thirsty it was. It achieved 41 miles per gallon, 14.62 kms to a litre or 6.84 l/100km. Preety happy with that figure.

Awesome photos!

This car remined me of a rampaging bull when I heard the carbies open up and the rear lose traction when I looked in the rear view mirror. Love it!

Another enjoyable cruise, nice to see the regulars and new faces also. Here are some pictures....

The car looks nice Joel, its come a long way.

Nana, Nana, Nana!!! Its something different but subtle. I'm used to them now, but at first it looked as something was missing. I think this looks more nanna that the ke70! Hmm. Glad you guys like it.

Two rust repair sections which I mentioned a few posts ago have been wire wheeled to bare metal. Now they need some rust converter to protect it and later on this week they will be welded in, followed by paint. I'm getting the passenger lock recoded as the previous one is all chewed out also. A few members on here seem to retofit parts from earlier model cars onto theirs. like hubcaps, which got me thinking. I trawled over the net looking for early 80's 13" covers and found some. But this time I fitted hubcaps from a later model Corolla, an ae82. I think they are a clean and straight design - like the e7 body shape so I went out and a bought a set for a bargain, washed them up and painted them in my aluminium paint. They look the part as they fill out the wheel much more. Went down to the park near my place for some quick photos, hope you like them.

Okay, well in preparation for the tcca cruise happening next Saturday the ke70 got serviced at home. Its had the following replaced.... Oil, oil filter, spark plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor etc are under a year old so theyre still fresh, air and fuel filters are under a year old also or 1,600km. Did a compression test which showed the motor was preety healthy and checked the timing that couldnt have any more on the mark literally. The carby had 28 years worth of brown film on the inside of it, so with some carby cleaner spayed down there it came up like new again, and should help it that little bit more while on the open road.

Nice work Johno, so will this be on the tcca cruise?
