WHAM! Priceles  Another thing that grinds my gears are people who are too tight arsed to purchase their own tools/equipment. There are people who I have no probs lending stuff to as it has been looked after & returned promptly in the past. Then there are the others who just can't be stuffed forking out the cash (you think stuff's expensive for you? Try being on an apprentices wage!!!) for things THEY NEED for THEIR project, see that you've got what they want & EXPECT (not ask politely) you to go lending it out or worse, that you'll do the work FOR them. Sorry to sound like a selfish prick but I"ve got my own stuff to do. Pick a building site, any construction site, go up to the builder & ask to borrow his jackhammer for a coupla days...that'll be a similar response to mine :finger: Two cases in point: I just get my brand spankin new oxygen/acetylene welding kit, have had it barely two days, not used it & I have a mate ask if his brother who's a boilermaker could borrow it.... If your brother's a boilermaker WTF does he not have his own gear? Second one: Mate texts me at 1pm one Saturday & asks if he could borrow the mower as he wants to do the lawns that day. I'm not home at this point but I say sure just swing by, I'll meet you there & you can grab it no probs. Turned out that he didnt just want to borrow it, he wanted me to deliver it to him (pretty much ASAP), with the jerry can and the whipper snipper. This I did because he's a mate & has kids so things arent always as easy as they are for a SINK (Single Income No Kids) like me. Not only did I have to go & pick the mower back up (want me to mow them for you?!?!) I discovered that not only was the mower tank & jerry can devoid of any petrol, the fuel cap had not been screwed on properly & had threaded itself, the whipper snipper had zero cutting line left & the mower had 2 broken blades. *PISSED OFF* Guess who's getting told its not running properly next time? :P While I'm on a rant I may as well throw this in as it's still annoying me: people who don't actually drive a car at all yet go on & on about certain model/manufacturer being the best & blah blah blah. How would they know? They've never owned one, they've never driven one, all they are doing is regurgitating what someone else has told them or someone elses OPINION that they've read somewhere. Having driven the cars they speak of in computer games is great & all, but really counts for squat. Simulators are handy but nothing beats REAL WORLD experience. Think I'm good for now :)

Although a nice alternative, ethanol-modified fuel has never flowed in the lines of any of my cars. This is because I have never been able to get a solid answer on whether or not my fuel system is ethanol compatible (its can be very corrosive to some plastics & rubbers) & don't really feel like replacing everything should iut not be. So its 91RON for the daily hack & 98RON for the Twin-Cam. Just as a side note I've been hunting around for fuel pump upgrades & alot of manufacturers either can't or wont tell you if its ethanol compatible, most have a "try it & see" attitude which I find rather poor form seeing as you guys like, test products you sell right? :glare:

I think the WGMG topic just changed to people on high horses :P WGMG are people who pull up out the front of someone's house (case in point my neighbours across the road) & sit there beeping the horn *BIP BIP BIP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP* like its a magical command button. Get off your fat arse you fat, lazy, simple minded, ignorant c*#t & go & knock on the door like the rest of polite, intelligent society do. That way you wont shit the rest of the neighbourhood at 1am!!!

Man, I dunno why but that is ssoooooooo sexy! It kinda resembles a Valiant at the front but becomes pure Toyota from there back. Good score mate! :y:

I could just go out & get one, but unfortunately too many people who know me also know & talk to my parentals. My dad would be grumpy at first but would get used to the idea, but I kid you not my mother's so dead set against the idea that she seemed almost relieved when I told her that I was modifying/improving my corolla. That was until I took her for a drive in it & she realised just how quick they are!! I also have the distinct feeling that I would be one of the people who wear all the right protective gear, go through defensive riding courses etc but do something stupid just once on the road & turn themselves into part of the landscape/new car hood ornament  The mrs decided to do what........!?!?! Oh man, thats low! Hopefully it was just cosmetic, easily fixable damage? Lifes like that, its nice & cruisy for a while then out of nowhere slaps you in the face as if to say "didnt see that coming did ya?" :owned: Motor vehicles & women are much the same, they both take all your time, energy & money. The only difference is the motor vehicle doesnt bitch at you & its not socially appropriate to sleep with your motor vehicle :?

Oh yeah, they'll amaze you with....well nothing really :blinks: I think they put out about 45kw at the flywheel stock & mine hasnt got many of them left, they've escaped over the years :glare: Good luck with the conversion, couldnt have recommened a better engine!!

Thats it mate, hunt them down & destroy them! Add some chlorine to the human gene pool for us!! :eatlead:

Aye. I was hoping to have had mine painted by Christmas just gone but its not even primed yet. As long as things get done & done properly the amount of time invested is well worth it. It just sucks having to wait so long to drive it as if you're like me you're craving for it!!!

Sorry, I just have a burning dislike for any Honda with 4 wheels, save for the NSX. It comes out every now & again  I know the feeling, no plans are made to purchase something but for some reason things just magically appear in the house/garage/shed & large amounts of money go walkabouts from your bank account  I believe that Geminis do/did run a 4x100 stud pattern, so rims for those are perfect for our use

Just be sure that the place thats doing the re-gassing is using the correct refrigerant gas. What type of gas has changed over the years & may not be compatible with existing pumps, compressors etc. But if first you don't find, keep hunting. Good luck! P.S I binned my A/C for the weight saving, now I have 4/80 A/C, open 4 windows & drive at 80km/hr :laff:

If you're chasing those kind of looks you should've bought a Honda :P Car looks sweet otherwise :y:

eBay or local wreckers :)

Nice score! How does she run? Twin cam...4AFE or 4AGE engine?

I love bikes but will never own one as it was made quite clear to me by my own mother that she herself will kill me if I do. So in for a wait lol. Glad to hear you went for good gear after the stack, even happier to hear no major/life-threatening injuries.

I hate VN commodores with VX Clubsport kits...they look f-ing horrible & their owners usually have an IQ that matches their shoe size. I don't like being behind a Honda (any of the 4 wheeled ones, the bikes are fine), any Toyota Camry, SUV, Mercedes Benz, BMW or Audi. The owners of these are either blatantly incompetent at operating a motor vehicle, living in a little world of their owned slighttly displaced from reality or both! I'll often take a different route or pull over just to get away from them. Indicators!!! They are there to be used BEFORE you even brake for the upcoming turn you are going to make but don't do until the last second leaving the poor sod behind you wondering just WTF the car in front is on the picks... Female cops with an attitude problem...No I am NOT attempting to hit on you or make silly jokes about nightsticks. I am just trying to make this breath test/licence check as painless as possible for everyone involved by idle chit chat. I had respect for you & felt sympathy for you being out in the rain but after nearly every one being a manky bitch to me I hope you freeze! People who go on & on about what car they're gonna buy & what mods they'll do etc etc...When all you're hearing after 7 years is still just lips flapping in the wind, there's no car owned (nor licence obtained),its time to put up or shut up. Get off your arse, I don't want to hear about it until something ACTUALLY happens. Rant over & out for now.

Ahh that explains why they looked familiar, I owned a KE70 before I branched out (crossed over?) to the AExx series  Did quite a few 6hr+ driving trips in it & yes, those seats aint bad for the early 80's lol.

Okay ran out of room for photos in the last post so I'll continue on here :rolls: Front strut tower. Where steering arms go. Previous stuff looked brushed on, it'll look much nicer now when I have to drop my gearbox to change the clutch :lolcry: It occured to me that (of all the moments to think about this, it's when it's too late) while sanding away at all this bog that there was the possibilty of the body flexing & cracking the bog-work... :blinks: :blinks: :blinks: I put myself into a rather healthy state of denial about this & decided that I'll cross that bridge when & if I come to it. It could happen, it may not, moving on! Here is where the project hit another snag... I was lucky enough to be able to score a few weeks off over the Christmas/NY period so I set about working full-time on the car. Because of the chaos of moving house (rapidly) & just alot going on in life I'd barely been able to touch it previously & sections I had stripped were now no longer a shiny silver but a nasty rust brown. :bash: My new neighbours however did not share my enthusiasm for power tools nor panelbeating works (a few minor dings needed a tap or three). This was brought to my attention by a phone call (I apparently ignored their letter which I recieved the next day) from our local council who were informing me that a formal complaint had been made & that I must cease activities immediatley of face a $600 fine :wtf: I checked up on their legislation, deciphered it all down to basic English & found that (long story short) technically I was not allowed to be doing what I was doing. I had managed to keep within the hours set for noise limits in our area but what I was doing & what I was doing it to being unregistered meant that I now had a dilemma. I'd had that suspicion but it appears that the old "polite knock on the door & ask to keep it down a bit" concept is dead :scarymovie: This was about 2 weeks into it all. :finger: A few phone calls later & I had myself a truck, some mates for labour & more importantly, a place to take it to!! :angrybird: We made sure to check with his neighbours first about whether making a bit of noise in the shed would be an issue; one lot just didnt want to be woken up early or kept awake late at night & the other ones just asked "what kind of car?". They were surprised when told a Corolla hatchback was the car in question but confessed a love for old Dattos so not sure whether to trust them :harhar:

Yay! memory card decided it wants to be read now! The next task after the car was stripped was to break out my old mate, polyester body-filler! Well okay, BOG. I still don't quite known what possessed me to do this but I took to all the seams on the body where metal overlaps metal & just put a small cove of bog in there. This was so the paint would just flow from one piece to the next without the small gaps that had irritated me previously, hopefully it'll look just that little bit cleaner/smoother. Interior was done also as the only things left in the cabin wil be: front seats, dash, centre console, front door trims. So with a lack of carpet to hide stuff I took the time to make sure it'd look nice without it. No bogging needed on ceiling thank fork as grinding overhead hurts after about 5min >| Nice shoulder workout tho! Where the backseats will not be. Drivers footwell Hatch area. Found small rust spot in front of rear wheel arches (both sides) that turned into big rust spots the more I ground away...Gave them a good hit of phosphoric acid then washed them out & used Metal-Mend to fill up the hole. Got a bit carried away, the tail lights will cover most of this.. But if you think thats bad, I also did all 4 wheelarches...yes they have plastic bits that cover them so at least I didnt do the spot welds!! Wire wheel for angle grinder before & after shot I decided at this point that the battery was going to be moved to the boot as I had stripped alot of weight previouslt from the rear end & have discovered that it can get a little bouncy-skippy when running less than 1/3 tank of fuel. Hopefully the addition of a little ballast will help settle it down a bit. Before you see, now you don't! Prep for primer continues, anything rusty gets ground, hit with rust converter, washed, then everything is ground/sanded, bogged, sanded again, dusted off, prep-washed & ready to roll.

Glad to hear that you can finally open the doors again!! I know its not something a gas axe & a big hammer wouldnt fix but having such an awesome piece of machinery locked away inaccessible would've been a tragedy! :sob: I'm impressed at all the extra effort you've gone to with some of the smaller details, it'll make the final product look that much better!

I can't say that I've ever had this problem with a 4AGE but I have had it happen in my 2AC AE80. Dammed throttle body itself was the culprit so it was a straight replace job. No matter how lacking in power a car might be, it still has the potential to make a very nasty stain in your pants when youi back off the throttle & nothing happens! Sounds as though the cable is the culprit here, I'm assuming you've checked the throttle return spring? It prob wouldnt hurt to give the throttle butterfly shaft a quick spray of RP7/WD40 just be on the safe side tho!

Cheers! :y: I get asked "why do this to a Corolla?" alot, my answer now is "why not?" Not my little girl (thankfully lol) she belongs to the guy in the photo giving me a hand to remove the windshield without breaking it...we failed...miserably! :laff: But she seemed keen (strongly insistent?) on helping me "fix" my car so what could I do? The hard part was finding something where she couldnt injure herself too badly, she's a bit on the accident prone side even now :P A mad keen Dora the Explorer fan & from memory the fav toy/s atm are her marbles. My housemate's child likes my car but admits she's not interested in helping me (usually involves actual work & like, effort) & gets told to bugger off when I'm playing with power tools or funky chemicals. Paint stripper + lack of sufficient ventilation = $h1t I nearly fell over, time to take a break! Still trying to get more photos to upload from dodgy memory card so next update is a work in progress!

Hellooooo 4AGE! I love seeing those under the hoods of well...pretty much anything!

Not completely neglecting the project build at one point I purchased a set of AE101 JDM front struts complete with hubs & brakes. There's a thread floating around on ToyMods which had caught my attention regarding brake upgrade options for the AE82. The option I chose is probably the pricer & more complicated option but the way I figured it was, once finished I'd have brakes designed for an 1150-ish-kgs car on a sub-900-kgs car  After much mucking around (parts guys really DO give out fake/made-up part numbers, feels good to catch them out by showing up at their shop 15min after getting off the phone) I got ahold of some caliper rebuild kits so set about pulling them apart & painting them before putting them back together. Getting twin pistons out of their bores takes a bit of fiddling about with an air compressor & a block of wood but it was managed. Everything checked out okay, no scratches/wear marks on the pistons or the bores so off to be prepped for paint. don't quite know why yellow except I had some laying around needing to be used or thrown out? Does red make you stop faster too? Just as I'd managed to kick my butt back into gear (roughly August last year) it turned out that my landlords were deciding to get divorced...meaning the house I was living in was about to be sold :bash: :bash: :bash: Long story short, by the time I found a place to live (i.e is available ASAP & within my price range) I had about 6 (working week) days to move everything before I had to be on a bus to Adelaide. If I was not on that bus, after she was married my older sister would have come over here & killed me for missing it. :eatlead: :jason: :pulp: :blazin: :guns: So after after discovering that the new place was a.....shoebox in comparison to where I had been living I set moving stuff to my parents garage/shed & two mates sheds after I had ran out of room. The joys of moving a disassembled car & all its bits, a non-running complete car & its bits along with all the usual household stuff :'( Oh & my boat too, that was a pain! *Note to self* Build a boat trailer!!! Obviously I made the bus on time...just! I was just starting to pack for the weekend about an hour & a half before my bus left, most of that spent trying to find things!
