  1. Taste in cars is like taste in women/booze...we all have our flavours :-) Fifth gen for me, not the prettiest but it does what it needs to, puts a smile on my face and doesnt molest my wallet/bank account either! First gen body with eleventh gen engine ftw!
  2. So basically you can modify a vehicle reasonably safely and still have a chance of getting it registered? Sweet :-)Now does anyone know a decent engineer? lol
  3. Since you asked...two. I go past one in Moonee Ponds pretty much every morning, didnt pay much attention until i noticed factory decals. The second may or may not have been factory, hard to judge when going past at 80km/hr :-)
  4. don't you just love coming across Toyotas little parts interchangibilty? The cam for the 2AC engine is the same as the one for the 4AC engine, simply rotated 180 degrees. Very handy when searching for bits after your distributor shaft seizes up, tears several teeth from the drive gear and sdistorts the camshaft! :-)
  5. I'm pretty useless at picking which KE 'rolla's which, but there is a blue example sitting in Asleigh St Auto Wreckers on Ashely St in Braybrook, right next to a KE70. More AE92's than you can shake a baby at and unfortunately most of the 82's are sedans :-( There was a white 82 TC hatch minus engine and box, but thats now in my shed beuing stripped and sprayed :-)
  6. I'm in!!! Not liking my chances of having Sudi back on the road by then (respray, brake upgrade,1st year apprentice wages :-( ) but am in the process of getting the AE80 back on the road so if needs be I'll attend with all the fury a 1.3 litre SOHC,2 valves per cylinder carby 4spd can! There's worse crimes than killing a 2-AC engine LOL. Last cruise was a blast, can't wait! Cheers Luke
  7. Spotted:a white ae92 cs-x,always parked near Edgewater a minimum of 400mm from the kerb & a maroon ae82 cs,lowered with lots of stickers & shiny plastic bits who always seems to be in a hurry along ballarat rd in the morning :-) i'd keep with him but the magna i'm driving atm has no guts...even tho its ralliart enhanced lol Oh there's also a overrated condition white ke??...i'll go with 10 since i'm not good with ke series sedan but had cool-as moon dish hubcaps, parked in highpoint's eastern carpark on a regular basis.
  8. I think you and I need to campaign next year for them to let us in!!! A 1986 car is not late model lol Really good day out and some fantastic roads out that way too,my drive home took me 3hrs instead of 45min :-) Cheers
  9. Howdy, just as a note seats from a honda prelude (equivalent year) bolt into an AE82 so it may be worth some measuring to see about an AE92.....they're damn comfortable, much better than the standard toyota fare :-( Honda better=Fail Cheers
  10. Internal pumps rock! Except when they stop working & you have to yank out the tank to get to them :-( would've been handy to have an access hole under the rear seats but *sigh* While you've got the pump out grab a torch & have a look inside for any crud that may have made its way into the tank & also the factory anti surge setup, works quite well until you throw a high hp application at it :-) If it makes you feel any better the ae82's have a seperate sender & pump also.
  11. Oh my god...the pink hat lives! Lol. Sooo glad i didnt end up with it (again) but i did wonder what happened to it :-p Thanks again to all the guitar people,i'm so musically illiterate even on guitar hero i play bass lol. Hoping someone out there has a copy of the video of all of us coming up the hill from the beach in portland...? I'm hangin to watch that! :-) Cheers,Luke
  12. why would convert a fwd to rwd? Easy, watching peoples faces when they see smoke off rear wheels from a 'fwd' car :-) i didnt say it was a cheap or easy exercise lol have contemplated the same idea using 3sge & gt4 running gear but the financial cost of doing it alone *cough* *hack*
  13. A neat & easy solution is to get busy with some 1mm aluminium sheet & a pop rivet gun to form up some heat shields for your pod filter, even a semi-box like arrangement can make for a noticeable (i have a digital temp sensor inside my intake pipe just b4 the throttle body) difference when combined with the abovementioned cold air feed. The expensive solution is to build a carbon airbox, but it works much better than the factory item & sounds awesome :-)
  14. Heya all, made it home safely bar an unfriendly altercation with a group of temporary citizens just b4 apollo bay...no harm done but i think someone will be washing their leathers tonight :-) i covered 1289kms using 91 litres of fuel over the trip, pretty happy considering sunday & alot of monday i only used 3 gears lol. Apologies for the lack of paragraphs,my phone doesnt let me do that so boo clown :-( Just wanted to say a big thanks those who organised gor4 & a thanks to all those who came along,it was a blast to see some of you again & to meet others for the first time. Already hangin for the next cruise, hopefully the resprayed body will be on the road, will try not to get the next princess award. Cheers! Luke
  15. Whoa...reading all this reminds me of the thought process i had when i purchased an ae82 hatch with a sick engine. A rebuilt stock 4AGE went in to get her going & the old is being rebuilt as a 4AGTE. Lower cost, the work is easier (for myself at any rate) parts are easy to find...all things that got me to take this road. Aiming for about 220hp @ wheels (yes the front ones!) at which point busting boxes and/or driveshafts may be an issue but rebuild that bridge when i get to it ;-) For the power i was chasing & a daily driver being a requirement meant that it needs the good bits in the right places & so far my estimated costs mean that its going to be a longish build. Oh well, brakes will keep me busy.
  16. G'day, not sure if still applicable but I have: Front - Factory strut braces, factory sway bar, KYB shocks, KYB lowered springs, p/u bushes Rear - Custom c/f strut brace, Whiteline swaybar, KYB shocks, KYB lowered springs, p/u bushes Wheel alignment specs are dialled for a lil negative front camber and rear toe-in,handles like a go-kart. Ride quality is on the firm side of hard thanks to the bushes but worth every jolt once the roads turn twisty :D Took my old 2-ac 4 spd pov-pack for a drive the other night and nearly killed myself!! Contemplated fitting twinki gear to it at one stage but with things like different bolt-ups for struts etc I figured it'd be easier to buy a twinki :-) Good luck to those who do though, guess I is just lazy
  17. Seen that done on several boats,a Volvo 70 ICHI-BAN plus several boats from MaConagheys in Sydney like Shockwave and Wild Oats XI. They are damn cold and hard!!! Perfect example of wanting wank factor and getting the bill thats appropriate for custom work with CF. This is strictly a personal opinion....but if you are going to the expense and true purpose of carbon, do not under any circumstances use fibreglass as a 'filler'. It defies the whole concept of the stuff and puts you straight into the "wank factor" category 8/ Oh, two types of resin you can use:polyester and epoxy. Epoxy--> easier to work with, stinks less, stronger, more $$$$$. Polyester--> Cheap, stinks like hell, tricky to work with and I wouldnt use it as bog!!! Ahh what does my opinion matter? lol just having a blab, not many people understand/follow me when i talk about this and i just get excited when people actually show interest lol
  18. As a person who works with the stuff on a daily basis, I can tell you that anything that is one off or custom is always going to be incredibly expensive compared to even a small production run of items. Manufacturers claim that they can get you around the ADR's (depending on the state you live in) but at the end of the day, in any state in australia carbon/fibreglass bonnets do NOT meet the crash testing standards that are defined in the ADR's...bad for pedestraians apparently. 8/ A hell of a read those things, the section on mirrors alone is a 5MB word doc..... If anyone is seriously interested in having moulds made or (heaven forbid here) carbon items made, feel free to contact me at [email protected] and we'll see what can be done realistically...need to to get pics of my AE82 with her carbon bits up
  19. Can anyone say brick???
  20. Just when you thought he'd turn the camera away to avoid..........he doesnt!!! ARRRGGGGHHHH DEAR GOD!!!
  21. Howdy, I don't know what exactly I am.....labourer, composite engineering technician, dust monkey..... *MEH* I build carbon-fibre masts for racing yachts in the 39-100ft range. Started with nothing, worked my boobies off and hoping to own my own business one day. So hard to make money in this industry, but I love making.....well....THINGS lol well preferably things that work and not break.
  22. Very nice, very clean  So this is an AE82 seca liftback? looks very much like the AE86, am i confused??
  23. Okay i'll admit it...I was one of the mates who was hungover and didnt get his arse down to help strip stuff out lol. Want to know the easiest way to prevent snapping tailshafts?? Buy a FWD!! Aint metal fatigue a bitch though? Let me know when you're back from QLD and we shall play with red rocket
  24. Is it easy? Its all relative my friend  You can do anyhting given the right tools, parts, time and shed space. Tho why youd want to run SOHC gear in a DOHC apllication makes me wonder lol
