"dodgy" Mods Youve Done To Your Car
carbonboy replied to Evan G's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
In no way was what I said a dig at you nor was there any intent of such. I understand that things are done to the owners requests sometimes, not as they should be. ;) Just a little joke I've picked up along my travels, silicone has its uses (such as substituting for a gasket) but sealing a leak in a natural gas line is NOT one of them! I discovered that while under a house & the owner casually says to me "yeah I did that, works well huh?".... :wtf: I could smell gas which is how I discovered it there in the first place. -
If you have a reasonable belief that a crime has been committed you have the legal right to detain a person (citizens arrest) using REASONABLE force until the police arrive. Your proof would be your witness statement recorded in a statutory declaration & you would more than likely be required to give this evidence in court. Having said that, that person could still beat the f**k outta you & take off....

Sealant when used properly = Silicone Sealant when not used properly - Silly-c**t :P -
Driving normally is the way to go, if you want to floor it from the lights, do burnouts, cross 3 lanes of the freeway whilst sideways etc, be prepared for the unwanted attention that comes with it. I hear you, living with my housemate & her daughter means I have to hide mine otherwise it doesnt last a week. Just had a count, theres 17 bottles of crap in our shower & only 2 of those are mine. So when its time to clean the shower, guess who DOESNT do it? Man, being able to TIG weld stainless/alloy/aluminium is like a highly skilled/well practiced art form to me, I'm jealous of people who can do it & have access to the equipment. Oxy is relatively cheap & in theory TIG is similar to it except you're using an electric current to create a weld pool instead of a flame. Having said that, trying to butt weld 1mm panel steel is still bloody hard but it can be done. To me MIG seems the easiest, never had a proper go at it but aim, push button, wire fed through for you....how easy does it get?!?! By the by I stand corrected on the hectic flutter issue, so there are ways to deliberately get that noise & its not neccessarily terminal. However I think I will pass on the noise & go for lack of lag, no slowing down of turbine = no waiting to spool back up!

Howdy, I know this is a bit of an old thread but thought I'd get my time in here officially nonetheless. 1986 AE82 TC Hatchback - 4AGE Bigport - Calder Park Dragstrip - 29/02/2008 Best ET of 15.974 @ 84.6mph (136.25kmh) with a Reaction Time of 1.042sec (my best was 0.873) & 60ft Time of 2.314sec (that was my best). Best trap speed was 84.9mph (136.7 kmh) Pod filter, cannon muffler, HD clutch, 15" wheels, missing back seats, otherwise standard. This car formerly belonged to TheNobbler but was running a different engine after I got ahold of her. I can upload a shot of the timeslip if need be?

Tccav Cars, Coffee And Donuts Meet 20Th Of March 2011
carbonboy replied to viccelicara28's topic in VIC / Melbourne
Howdy, I just wanted to say a big shout out of thanks to Rob, who was kind enought to pass on a free admission pass to the Historic Racing down at Phillip Island to me this morning. It was a fair hike, but well worth it as due to delays racing went until after 5pm! :-) Just a few photos of things that caught my attention: Go the A-dub safety car! Sorry no photos of the actual racing but I did get some video, holy mothballs Batman they're LOUD! Thanks again Rob! :y: :y: -
Small (and even large) sneezes are cool :y: Been lectured by a 17yr old who was adamant that his cousins VL Turbo came from the Holden factory with the RB26 now sitting under the hood is not cool :n: I've seen many a VL/R33/WRX pulled over & get towed away later due to yellow stickers...guess the attention they got wasnt the attention they were seeking! *engine roars, tyres squeal, woot do do do do, engine roars, tyres chirp, whoop whoop, lights flash, cars pull over* :fuzz: Gave me a good laugh though :lolcry:

WGMG are bogan morons who don't know $h1t about cars telling me that they want the blow off valve that makes *WOOOOOOOP DO DO DO DO DO DO* noise, kinda like a fluttering sound. Is it just me or is this noise the sound of your BOV being unable to flow enough gas, the compressor charge pressure wave bouncing back off the closed throttle body & causing your compressor to almost stall? 140,000rpm to almost 0rpm in a split second can't be good for turbine internals?? WGMG are Pre-Apprentice dickheads at trade school, yes I was like them (well not exactly like but close) too at one stage. But, if you want to wrestle & push each other & generally stuff around, do it outside the workshop AWAY from the guy practicing welding with an oxy/acetylene torch. Because when you crash into him, he will spin around in surprise/anger and the lit torch in his hand WILL set your stupid *insert sick brand name here* hoody on fire. He managed to get it off & stomp it out real quick & apart from a few singed hairs was uninjured. What really ground my gears was that a teacher came over & demanded that I apologise to the kid... I told him in no uncertain terms that he was dreaming if he thought that was going to happen. Got into a very heated discussion with the Course Coordinator about this, my demands for an apology from the kid for ruining my weld-run didnt go down well lol.

I'm sure this grinds a few gears when it happens... This one was obviously deliberate but still hilarious, gives new meaning to in-block camshaft lol

Moral of the story? If you don't know WTF you're doing, say something. You may feel like a dill & your boss might get cranky but it better than being seriously injured or dead. Less paperwork too :P Mate, a pay rise to $700 a week would be awesome! I'm a 2nd year apprentice & even as a mature-age I'm getting just over half that a week. Hope the job-interview went well at any rate! If the job looks like it could lead somewhere, go hard! If it looks like you'll be stuck doing the same $h1t over & over & over & over again (& if this matters to you), I'd recommend something different.

Supply & demand dictate the market price (along with greedy bastards). There'd be a demand for stuff like this & since supply aint exactly plentiful, bogans will bash each other with their beer stubbies for it. Considering the price a restored, all original Monaro would fetch, $7k is nothing, besides they'd just throw another $10k onto the asking price lol. If someone had a genuine HKS twin-charger kit for my AE82, I'd happily hand over my left testicle for it!

"dodgy" Mods Youve Done To Your Car

I managed this as well! Although this may have been because it came from the factory with only the drivers side mirror! Nice work with the (un)roadworthy  -
The door trims from memory have little clips holding them in that can be popped out (or tear the thin cardboard/make believe wood) of the door with a flat headed screwdriver wedged between it & the door. Its easiest to start at the bottom & work your way around each side to the top.

Thats friggin low...around my area TWO different sets of locknuts are recommended as the bastards have been stealing lock nut kits from auto stores to get the right sockets >| Any pics of missing rims to help people identify them?
-
WGMG is peoples inability to accept & move on. Oh & merging lanes, its not rocket science people!

Aye, I never believed an engine could take so much & still keep going. That was until dfunkt had a pistion make a break for freedom out of the block about 10kms from home, drove it the rest of the way no problems (aside from the noise). Apparently it was also driven around some more (topping up oil & coolant along the way I imagine) before being sold to a mate for parts. He then drove it about 15mins back to his place without dramas. :o Sorry to be a little off topic but...umm yeah  Glad to see you got more done over the long weekend than I did! keep up the good work man!

Compression test the motor! Rust common around windshield & hatch glass, inside spare wheel tub, along the roof channel above the doors (paint often cracks here) & in front of rear wheel arches. Driveshaft seals can be leaky but I put this down to overzealous people putting things back together & not being careful. Distributor can leak oil due to seals not being changed. (not really that difficult to do just rarely done) Its red :P Check CV's/clutch are okay as we AE82 owners tend to abu...*ahem* use these enthusiastically. Series 1 & Series 2 have different front bumpers (S2 the indicators are further apart). Centre consoles with the little compartment underneath the radio can be tough to find in good condition. Nothing too major off the top of my head I hope!

No problems dude, glad my phone can be camera & USB modem at the same time (if only it could make calls without dropping out lol). Best of luck with it! I hate chasing electrical gremlins at the best of times >| If something doesnt work, hit it with a hammer. The bigger the doubt the bigger the hammer. If it still doesnt work, you've got an electrical problem.

Cheers dude, comments like that make my fingers/hands hurt less lol. I think I went a bit hard at it yesterday, managed to dislocate my index finger (on my left hand fortunately) by getting it jammed in a hole where the wiring loom goes while sanding. Couldnt get the bugger back in so off to the hospital it was, only a 2.5hr wait instead of the usual 4-ish which dfunkt has encountered in the past. It sucks not being able to take codeine, doctors advice was to take panadol but they don't do much so scotch it is! Have been practicing away with the oxy set getting the hang of welding 1mm steel panel material, previously the thinnest I have welded is 3mm. I'd give an internal organ for a MIG welder but seeing as it'd cost about $1200 to get a half decent one its just a dream. 1mm steel CAN be butt welded using oxy, its just bloody hard to do without either blowing holes in it or pumping too much heat into one spot causing it to distort big time. Have managed a few small successful runs but still need to work on the flame size/techniques a bit.

You can't forget the obligitory lip-piercing as well!! So far you've described about 75% of the guys I go to trade school with, except they can't afford a mini-truck so they drive bombodores :laff: Its kinda got a longer shape than the usual 4x4 ute...I like it! :y:

Dude...I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I saw the photos of this :laff: Imagine the mess I'll make (drooling!) when body work/paint happens? Looks awesome mate! :y:

Tccav Cars, Coffee And Donuts Meet 20Th Of March 2011
carbonboy replied to viccelicara28's topic in VIC / Melbourne
I'll give it a crack making this one on time! Its a fair hike for me so I might have to grab a coffee somehwre on the way as a traveller. Hopefully I can get a coffee inside of 20mins from this place :lolcry: The poor girl at Albert Park was trying hard being there solo though so full credit to her! -
Just as a by the by, I kinda had to earn the space for my car...This involved climbing up & cutting down a willow tree...with a freakin hand saw! Why didnt we just shell out $100 to hire a chainsaw? We were both povo at this point :sob: So once my rent was paid (tree = dead) & the car was settled in, work resumed. What had annoyed me the most was that I had recieved that friggin phone call from the council the day before I was going to prime the interior! So given that it had the least amount of work involved to get prepped I got stuck in to the interior. All the bog in the seams was sanded by my fingers with a bit of sandpaper wrapped around them. I could've made sanding blocks but with the amount of shapes/curves involved in the interior I'd spend more time making blocks than sanding. Yes I now have some serious callouses on my fingertips & there were days where I had to stop because I'd almost worn my fingernail completely away, but being able to feel what I'm doing made the final results come up pretty good (I think anyway). The previous owner appeared to have had a weird habit of slapping screws into the floor pan in various locations. In total I filled 24 non-factory holes with Metal-Mend! Note that the spare wheel tub is not done, this is because of some serious rust that is to be cut out & good metal welded in. Since the house move/s my plans of doing things in an order went out the window. You get used to it I guess lol. Besides, more priming to do on other bits so it could wait. Previous owner had liberally applied some sort of rust preventer (?) goop inside the cavity of the C pillars, getting my hands in through those holes to get rid of it all/paint prep it was a painful (& slightly bloody) process but I managed. Clearing out the drain holes was difficult as it had all pooled there & blocked it up...kinda defeats the purpose of these drain holes no? My mate who I bow & worship to for renting space in his shed to me for my project, giving us his biggest smile! Occasionally offers help too, which is appreciated but being the anal bastard I am, all the bog shaping/sanding is done by me alone. The way I figure it is I know how I want it & if it comes out crap once the primer goes on I have noone to blame but myself. He's slightly pedantic too so we have an understanding
