  1. whats the temperature gauge saying, is it normal? you said it wouldnt start again after a couple of minutes, is it still cranking over and just not firing? it could also be the electronic ignition/coils. I'm not a mechanic, actually electrician, i have found this problem before on machinary and it has been the ignition, when it gets hot it breaks down and wont deliver enough voltage for the plugs. Just a suggestion.
  2. will be alright if you get your cam reground, ive got twin 40mm solexs off a 2lt alfa on me 4k with a reground cam, screams up to 8200rpm, and ive got the standard fuel jets, had to get bigger air jets. .140 and .150 fuel/air rings a bell, but don't qoute me
  3. radiator support is different too i believe, will need cutting and welding
  4. its a hell of a lot easier with a mate and a few hair dryers or heat guns to make the seal soft, thats how i did it
  5. hey there, I'm not one of those people who now everything about this topic but i am very interested in doing the same thing, do you know if the ethanol will have a effect on the valves and seats, and what about the lubrication of the cylinder bores, will the alcohol disolve the oil on the bore walls and the rings on the cylinder, i want a similar setup for my new hill climb and track car. i was going to bend up a new fuel system out of alloy or stainless fuel pipe to get rid of rubber hoses all together, it just so happens work uses the same material. thanks dylan
  6. my mate had some of these in gunmetal grey, i think they were called csa surfs??? or gtr surfs?? something surf
  7. another pic, plus the part that is in the middle
  8. ill have another crack, but its not the easiest place to take a photo. both carbies on mine are joined in the middle by one linkage sandwiching the other one between a spring and screw. then joind to the linkage by a shaft. for about $130 i bought a linkage kit to join my carbies to the manifold, i think its a redline brand, very good quality with plenty of spares and a few different options to join them up
  9. hey there, ive got solex's (similar to webbers) on a 4k, this may help, sorry its not the best photo
  10. hey there, they will fit if you do a bit of test fitting, 17's will be pretty easy if you get the right offset and low profiles, ive heard some people use spacers on the front to clear strut. rolling gaurds will probly be needed for 18's and up, but i had to roll my guards on my ke70 with 15's, was just too dammed low. i believe this car is running 20's
  11. i ran some 205/50/15 simex tyres on my ke70, and i could not get the thing to understeer 1 bit, only $100 ea fitted
  12. yeah the gasket ended up blowing, i think it was baggy beacause it had a standard exhaust, trying to push to much air volume through it.
  13. hi, i tried what you want to do and now i have two sets of dished pistons, the valves left nice marks in the top of my flat top pistons, this is because the head is a lot more shaved to create the combustion lower in to the cylinder bore. even if you got a thicker head gasket, the compression ratio would be through the roof. stick with the standard 4ku until you get more money, i did what taz rx said by putting the 4kc head on the 4ku block, and it went good, but it was really boggy down low, needed forced induction or twin webbers. it also overheated very easily and i had a problem with the coolant leaky out the exhaust pipe onto the road behind me, hahaha. was fun but, very cool throaty noise even with standard carby. ps, make sure you have got the correct spark plugs as they are longer than 4kc ones, helps with combustion remarkebly
  14. thanks, 1st head has now been identified as a 3k bigport according to cameron down unders head guide, other engine has only got 75mm bores so its a 4k of some description. thanks guys, will dished pistons give me any advantage over flat tops? its going to be n/a twin webbers.
  15. thanks guys, nah the second one is definately off a 4k, and yes, it has got dished pistons, i thought all 4k's had dished pistons? if that is the case, will the flat top pistons on the first engine be factory or forgies?
  16. hey guys, i just pulled down two 4k's that i got given, one from a ke70 van, one from a sedan, the one in the van had flat top pistons and a head with deeper valve areas than that of the sedan motor. are the flat tops standard or are they forgies and some one has put a different head on it. check my pics, first 3 pics are the flat tops head, last three are the other. also the ends of the head are different, one has a cap with 4 bolts. is it possibly a 3k bigport head? thanks
  17. hey, thought id through a bone in, about three months ago i painted my ke70 with carcigen free (thinks that how its spelt) two-pack (its not harmful). a 4lt kit cost me $150 3lt colour, 1ltr hardener. the brand is hi-chem i think, it set harder than a rock and didnt need buffing. sprayed with a 12cfm compressor with a hvlp (high volume low pressure) 40psi from memory. and can be tinted to any colour, i got fords citric acid, but tthat price doesnt include primer, you may need twopack primer aswell, i already had some.
  18. is that the blue one with a 1ggte in it that runs like 9s?, if it is, that thing is bloody awsome
  19. i agree with what you are all saying when someone is selling a car and they have to describe it, but I'm also saying it is just how people talk these days, and when they are comenting about a car (Like reader rides), they should be able to say what they want. thats how i feel any way, i don't want to get up any ones nose
  20. it wouldnt be that hard to be the best pano, theres prolly not that many left. but I'm sure there are plenty out there that are better than mine
  21. paint came in a 4ltr kit, 3 ltr of colour and 1ltr of hardener, and cost me $150 off the shelf
  22. damm straight, although used would probably mean driven on the road, but yeah thats how the big book describes it, soon people wont be able to call a car sweet because they have not got any sugar on it........
  23. i tend to disagree with some of you, overrated is a word that people use to describe a car the same as they say that this car is SICK, WICKED, COOL, BULLSHIT (MEANS GOOD), TRIPPIN, SCHMICK, BOUNCIN, SWEET, TRICK. Its just how people speak these days. And according to the dictionary overrated is described as " Unused or appear to be newly made and never used." yes there is a conception that the word overrated would be a car that is totally original in its factory state, but i believe there are heaps of overrated cars around and people should be able to describe a car how they want, its called freedom of speech. if we were to use the word overrated as described in the dictionary, the only "overrated" cars would be the ones on the showroom floor forsale with no kilometers on them. but hey thats what i think.
  24. yeah its fords citric acid, come up alright, yeah the bumpers are pretty good, back one has a few dents, havent got any inside pics yet, ill try and get some. yeah i tried to hook up some quad headlights from an early model corona but they are to hard to fit, I'm gunna try with some datsun 1600 head lights as my mate might have some. there is some on american ebay for about $300 i think, and the aussie dollar is pretty good at the moment :) neways, going hunting for a supercharger, got to load shot gun first
