Hehe... I don't want to be broke for the rest of my life! For the moment, I'd probably just (yes I know, very dodgy) chop the springs, and save for bags; thats the first thing I thought of, and its gotta happen :D I was thinking a more 'budget' engine conversion than a 1UZ-FE, perhaps a RB30 or Ecotec motor, or straight six 4MPI (91+ Falcon :wink:) or perhaps a 302... but then it would be a headf@$k getting it engineered. I'd probably be better off with a cam (good luck, i know) and head work for the original engine.... Stockies are the shit, mainly cos I can't afford anything better :D Its even got the old school Merc hubbies like on the pic; that is essentially the stance I am after! In other words I like Super Jamies idea! Out of interest, what do people think in regards to colour? I don't really want metallic paints; I don't think it suits the car... perhaps a gunmetal grey or black?

Hehe. Just recently my father acquired a 1975 Mercedes for me to do up a lil bit. At the moment, it is a unlicenced car, but in reasonably good original condition, a good base for a bit of a project. It didn't cost anything, we were given it, so my oppurtunities are endless! It currently has a twincarb six cylinder in it, i havent got the chance to even start it yet though I would prefer it to vanish, if you know what I am suggesting. This is what I reckon would look awesome; matt black with whitewalls, in the weeds. Dark dark tint but I'm not sure what should drive it. This will be done, its not a 'i might do this' thread, it will get done but I'd like to hear peoples opinions before I set out to work on it... Just keep in mind it has to go over the pits... no outrageously stupid ideas, and yes, i will lower it AFTER it goes over to avoid issues with the RTA :wink:

Come on buddy, all mechanics pretty much get the same wage unless they own the shop or build race engines. I suppose that the oil change princesses etc deserve minimum wage, though the mechanics I've been speaking of were fitters and reconditioners. That is a demanding job, and I feel a reasonably skilled job as well. Remember, everyone relies on mechanics; where would we be without our precious automobiles.... Ah, ye olde Street Machine debat; since I joined this has been discussed a fair few times. I love a street driven car way more than trailer queens, yet you still have to appreciate an Elite showcar. If we didnt have these, what influences would we have on our sport/hobby or whatever you would like to call it. I've been subscribed to Street Machine for close to 5 or 6 years now; that isnt about to change. I feel that it is good to have the elite cars in the magazine, it provides food for thought, ways to improve on/incorporate on my car (well the future one anyway :)). Darryl McBeth's Magna kicked arse, it sort of broke the barrier (for most) that determined what car would make a good showcar; it was a pioneer. Don't forget, that the silver Mustang (Silver Bullet) is owned by the same bloke that owns the flamed '66 Mustang (Gary Myers); he has his show car and his thrash car, hes got what he wants. Most of the Elite owners will have a thrash car at home. So cut them some slack, I reckon.

Na, I've got mates that work as mechanics, and my old man worked as one; I know lots of em, and I can tell you that the average mechanics gets paid minimum wage; barely enough to live. Actually Felix just hit the nail on the head.

First of all; sorry about mistaking your post coupedcorolla, I thought you meant that your engine was f@$ked. Sorry! Secondly, does anyone know what mechanics actually get paid? Sweet f@$k all. So they're not so much of a ripoff merchant. Don't stereotype mechanics like some of them are, just remember that they are virtually at the bottom of the automotive foodchain. Yes that quote he got was a ripoff. That said I do think its a better option to invest in tools and do it yourself; and by tools, i don't mean piece of shit Supercheap Auto ones, that break/snap/bend within 5 minutes.

Most cities have exchange motor services, where they will take your buggered engine and replace it with a second hand, albiet running motor. I know of a place in Perth that does it for 350 so I guess that there wouldnt be all that much difference in a different city. However I suggest that you do it yourself with another 4k or perhaps 5k; K's are reasonably easy motors to pull out... Welcome to Rollaclub by the way!
