Yeah air filter is cut into side of engine bay. It's going into the qtr panel so i imagine the heat inside there would be less than that of the engine bay, also i think there might be some venturi effect thing going on so it would pull the cooler air from inside the qtr panel to compensate for any warm air from the engine bay (could be wrong,i started work at 5am and brain is a little fuzzy) . Didn't know that my mechanic had done it till i saw it, he reckons it should be worth it and it looks cool Jono i was having a look at your car when you were selling it, was damn nice. Not sure how quick mine will be, but these days i drive a ford escort panel van so i reckon it'll feel damn fast to me. Has been 4 years since i've driven a fast car. I'll have to baby it to start off with as i doubt the diff will hold up for very long, so will have to save up more money to get a custom diff, i plan to use a F series out of a tarago and have it shortened to suit.

Ahhh serious auto trans not so good? I've used them twice so far, once with my ke25 which rocked up with the rear brakes locking up every time i went over a bump (i think they wrapped a chain or something around the diff and wrecked the cable). The second time i got my g/f's 97 corolla sent down and that time it was all fine, took 5 days and was cheap. Now i'm thinking i may try someone else, any recomendations? Regarding compliance, not sure how that's going to go. I've spoken to SA transport a number of times and asked what i have to do when i bring the car down here. They told me each time that all i have to do is transfer the rego from QLD to SA rego, and they said it doesn't even need to go over the pits. I explained that it's been engineered in QLD and they just said it should be fine then. So not sure what's gonna happen until i get it down here.

Updated pics Car is almost finished, have run outta money :hmm: but hopefully will not spend much this month and be able to finish it off. Main thing left is tune and sourcing a remote brake booster (thinking of a VH44 out of a Holden HR)

Hey All need your advice/opinions My daily driver decided it was going to blow a head gasket on the way to TAFE today and I can't decide what to do. I'm in the process of moving so this is awesome timing. The car is a 1986 cs-x corolla sedan, engine has done around 266,000k's and it leaks oil, body is shit (front right has acco damage), interior is average at best, fuel gauge doesn't work, temp gauge doesn't work. The car cost me 1000 and i doubt before the acco if i would have gotten 400 bucks for it. I have my ke25 coming down here in around 2 months hopefully so i still need a car for the next 2 months minimum so i can't decide what to do and from what i see these are my options. Option 1. Buy another car for under 1500 bucks Option 2. Send car to mechanics to get fixed cost unknown (atleast 600 me thinks) Option 3. Have a crack at fixing it myself with help from dudes from work/anyone who offers it (cost unknown) Option 4. Get a second hand motor and have a crack at putting that in with help from dudes from work/anyone who offers it i've got access to plenty o tools through work, and theres a guy at work who's rebuilt motors before so if anyone has some advice or another option please let me know. cheers note: time is a factor, i needs a car

UPDATE -2.5" turbo back exhaust installed (wanted 3" but it wouldn't fit through the tunnel or something) mechanic also put a 3.5" tip on it which i wasn't that pleased about, haven't seen so don't know if it suits or not -3" Tail shaft installed have been told it will never die for revs up to 7,500 all day every day but should be able to take up to 9000 but i'll never rev that high -Brake master cylinder reconditioned -replaced clutch slave cylinder -fuel lines all re-done -intercooler mounted -radiator mounted -braided brake lines installed -brakes are now working i think thats all thats been done so far, getting all the old tint removed and re-done this week as well Got told by my mechanic that the diff in my car is not a 120y diff but some sort of mazda diff. Have yet to find out what mazda diff though. Also the car has a hydraulic clutch but mechanic told me that there are hydraulic lines and a cable coming from the handbrake going to the rear brakes. He couldn't explain to me why you would have both. So car is semi driveable atm still needs the non ecu wiring to be re-done as most of it is fuxored thanks to the awesome neglect from the last mechanic. So far i reckon the last mechanics mistakes have cost me over 1k and counting

nice work getting hold of those gauges dude. I know you've been searching for them for a while. Making me tempted to start looking for myself again. Gotta get me a dash pad first though -

I went up to brisbane Thursday and left Tuesday Arvo. The car was meant to go to my real mechanics on friday which didnt happen, so it became a "i'll get it to you tomorrow" situation until i was assured it would be there before 12 on Tuesday........it ended up getting there just past 8pm on the Tuesday so i didn't get to take any more pics. G/F's mum took some pics for me yesterday so now i just have to get her to email them to me, so when i get those i'll upload em. cheers

The car has finally left the idiot that had it in his possesion. It arrived in an absolute mess with fuse holders and wires hanging down. The mechanic in all of his wisdom despite telling me that the car had always been covered etc etc managed to let the clutch slave cylinder rust out to the point where the pin actually fell out and is missing. The "custom" tailshaft that was meant to be in the car was missing, he hadn't bothered to mount the radiator or the intercooler. He couldn't even be bothered to bolt the seats down, also the brakes are completely shot, its missing the accelerator cable and the gearshift lever. I went and visited the car last friday and there were COB WEBS in the engine bay even though it had been freshly painted only a couple of months ago. He told me when the car went to get painted that there were only a "few" things left to be done but it was obvious from the condition of the shell that NOTHING and i mean absolutely NOTHING had been done in the 3.5 years the guy had it in his possesion. It took this guy almost 4 months to bolt up a gearbox, install an engine, wire it up and bolt on a turbo......that seems a little slow to me. atleast now the car will see some progress and may even get driven for the first time in nearly 4 years.

yeah i still have a copy of the original 2k receipt from 5 years ago, so i'm covered there. When i spoke to him today i told him he wasn't gettin paid for any labour and i would only pay for something if i get the original receipt from the place the parts were bought and he agreed to that. i'm also going to subtract 6 months of rego that's been wasted. I could probably even subtract 5 years of interest on 2k if i wanted to get hella narky.

The biggest problem i had with this guy is that he runs a mechanic buisness, i can put up with this kind of shit from mates to an extent but when it's meant to be a buisness i just don't get it. ANYWAY the car is going to a REAL mechanic on wednesday so i'll finally get to find out what state my car is currently in and hopefully in the next few weeks it will be down in SA for me to appreciate finally. Will update next week hopefully with some good news. cheers for the support

thats what i'm gonna have to do, i've been far too nice to this guy, trying to believe him when he says it will nearly be done. Worst part is i live in SA and he is in Brisbane. Only reason the car went to this dude in the first place was because he owed me 2 grand and never seemed to have the dosh to pay me, so it was meant to be a way for him to pay me back.

/RANT ON OMG I HATE MY MECHANIC, in fact i don't even think mechanic is the right word for him, useless lump of skin and bones would be a better description. This guy has to be the slowest most full of shit dude in the world, car was promised to me (most recent promise, originally he was to have the car ready over 2 years ago) before last christmas and since then its been nothing but "only a few more things to do" "ive gotta pick up some parts tomorrow" "should be done by monday". I had to get the car registered last christmas so now i've lost 6 months of rego as well as having to put up with all this dudes lies. ALL I WANT IS MY DAMN CAR. /RANT OFF.....for now
-
yes yes its true there actually is a KE25 that belongs to me......tis just a shame that my mechanic can't keep to his word otherwise i would have had the car around 2 years ago. for those Brisbane members who are curious whom this mechanic is so that they can avoid the headaches of broken promises simply PM me. He is somewhat known in the sprinter community and is never on time.

not sure dude, bought the bell housing almost 4 years ago from Bill Sherwood, he used to get them from thailand
-
tis been a while since i've updated mainly because theres been nothing to update except for my anger towards my mechanic.........but anyway here are some pics of my car's new paint job. Was done by a mate of mine in his dad's workshop and cost me paint + a 500 dollar ke55 :)

i'm a 3rd year apprentice flight simulator technician :hmm: tis a bit different
-
it's a shortened 10 bolt commo diff to suit ke20/ke25.
-
G'day all Saw a nice diff on this forum the other day but it's been locked, what would be needed to do in order for it to no longer be locked and therefore legal again? cheers
-
i rang SA transport again as i always like to double check info from government agencies and confirmed that the Valandor Loop Hole does exist. A car that is registered in another state and engineered etc if brought to SA and kept under the same registered owner does not require an inspection.
-
There's actually a 4agzte for sale in NSW at the moment on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/AE92-Corolla-levin-...1QQcmdZViewItem who knows you might be able to email the dude and get some better pics.

yeah it's looking that way, no wonder there are so many people driving around with engine conversions and not engineered. I'm going to investigate getting it engineered in qld as well just because i know someone who may do it on the cheap :). My g/f is moving down this year so i figure if i can get it done on the cheap in QLD ill register it in her name and bring it down when she moves down here and try the valandor loop hole. One of the reasons i want to do this is because i'm not going to be in SA forever and i'd like to think ill be keeping this car for a while and i plan to return to qld when i can get transferred within the company i work for. Otherwise i'll just bite the bullet and get the engineering done down here either way its gonna be an interesting and costly experience

Spoke to some guy from sa transport today and he said that even with an upgraded engine the emission requirements are that of the year of the car and not the engine. BUT he did add that i may still be required to add a catalytic converter and a charcoal canaster anyway. Also i emailed rory (engineer dude) and for for 1 hour consult that includes preparation of an application to Transport SA for a statement of Requirements for a modified vehicle is $ 250.00 inclusive of GST. I'll try and update this with my progress as i go :)
