  1. thats everyones answer, guess it should be easy enough to hide. Can i seriously get away with that? reckon i can hide a hydraulic handbrake???? otherwise ill just have two handbrakes and not use the cable one :) at one stage i was considering getting the car engineered and registered in qld and then bringing it down here and registering it but was worried that i'd just have to get it re-engineered down here (note : car is still in qld)
  2. crap totally forgot about the ecu. I'm running a Haltech E6K, in fact it only recently got wired up poo poo poo wonder how i'm gonna get around that??????????????????
  3. G'day All Theres a chance i may get my ke25 project finished this year so i figure i should start thinking about the steps i need to take to get it on the road down here in South Australia. The car is a 1971 Ke25 (1971 from what i'm told is good for SA as it has less ADR's to live up to) changes from standard that will or have been made engine : 4agte g/b : w57 or w58 (can't remember which one) diff : probably end up being a shortened F series Brakes: Front = magna vented front discs, Rear = whatever comes with the diff upgrade suspension : koni inserts (i think), front and rear custom swaybar Interior : cobra bucket seats, stock everything else ECU: haltech e6k theres also no cable handbrake in it, its got a hydraulic handbrake setup So my question is..........how hard / costly is it going to be to get this car engineered down here and does anyone see anything that they really won't like. the car is from QLD and was previously engineered for a 3tgte (no idea if that has any bearing on the process) so would love to hear peoples opinions and or experiences. cheers
  4. so with the mazda diff does it still require shortening? also what cars do the mazda e series diff come out of and what sort of hp can they handle? cheers
  5. i'm in a similar situation to yourself i've been slowly building up a ke25 and the diff is probably the hardest thing to choose for me. From what i've read the options seem to be either cutting down a hilux, vn/vs/r31, F-series or to use something that might just fit with the right offset wheels or flares like the t-series, b1600 and i think theres one hilux diff which is pretty close. I have heard of a couple of ke25/ke20's using an Alfa spyder lsd diff but i've never found any info regarding whether its cut down or not. My car came with a 120y diff which supposably never snapped with a 3tgte pushing it along so atm i'm tempted to leave that in and see how long it lasts with a 4agte (not long i imagine). I've spotted your yellow beast near my place in gawler a couple of times, looks overrated
  6. cheers for the offer raven but as most good things the deal fell through. But i'd love to come check out your ke25 one day as i havent laid eyes on one in a while and i miss the look. Also be nice to meet one of the SA crew so maybe after Easter sometime, my msn is [email protected] add me if u want
  7. cheers dude, i wish i was the type of person who had random car parts lying around. Although i do have a whole bunch of useless VW golf GLD parts somewhere :D
  8. unfortunately i'm in SA and my car is in QLD otherwise that's what i'd do.
  9. Hey All Just after some confirmation before i let go of some cashola. A mate of mine has a shortened commo diff for a reasonable price but its for a datsun 1200. I've heard that people put ke25/ke30 diffs in 1200's but i've heard it increases the track by around 3" so i'm wondering if it's wise to take a diff shortened for a 1200 and putting it in a ke25. Currently my ke25 has got a 120y diff in it and from what i've read the bw 120y diffs are the same width as the 1200 but i'm always after more than one opinion before i part with 1000 bucks. Cheers
  10. i believe for a desk to trully be considered dirty/untidy it has to have atleast two of the following things 1) Empty beer bottles or bourbon bottles 2) An ash tray thats begging to be emptied 3) a bong 4) maccas/hungry jacks bags (half empty box of chips for extra credit) 5) a sticky spot which is identifiable by the dust and dirt that now lives in the sticky spot. 6) any type of food that is now apart of the plate/bowl it has been living on for too long it's also nice if you can see something hiding behind the monitor that is noticed on occasion but ignored due to the knowledge of how gross it's going to be to move it. I live by myself so my desk is always messy, the great thing is when g/f comes to visit she doesnt even care :lolcry: so only time it gets cleaned is for inspections (damn inspections) but give it 3 days and she's back to normal.
  11. Hey all i'm always asking about diffs so as not to change my habits i have another one. Got an option to pick up a shortened Cortina diff from a ke20 which i wanna put into my ke25 project car but have no idea on the strength of cortina diffs, it's supposably either a TD or TC cortina diff, and my ke25 is a 4agte and eventually want to build it up to around 250HP atw so if anyone has any idea if this diff will hold up it would really help. Cheers
  12. in that case you say the head on the motor it came with was shagged and you and a mate installed a second hand head and took the old head to a scrap yard. Best of luck in a shitty situation, a mate of mine bought a VL from Vic once, drove it back to qld to find out she was HOT TO TROT so he lost the 5k he paid for it plus the time and effort of flying to vic and driving back to qld. People suck
  13. i don't think i did anything wrong, when i got the car it had 150k's on it (got it a week or so ago) so i figured the guy had filled up the tank and had done 150k's and was going to fill up at aronud 400k's like people had suggested and the guy i bought it off also said he fills up at around 400k's. I haven't been driving it hard or anything as i want the thing to last so was surprised when i started to cough and splutter and eventually stop on the side of the road at 366k's. Didn't have to walk to far to get to the fuel station so it was no biggy. Ill fill up at 350 this time and see how much fuel it takes.
  14. I RAN OUT OF FUEL hehehe 366k's but i that was based on the theory that the previous owner filled it to the brim, ive got a 5ltr jerry can in the boot so ill see if it makes it to 400 this time hehe.
  15. turn it into a clock, i don't know how you would do it but it would be a cool clock, instead of all those FAKE plastic disc brake clocks you could have a REAL manly disc brake clock hehehe. Also if it ever fell down from its location the clock wouldnt break, although anything it landed on WOULD. hehehe i've been up since 3am damn morning shifts
  16. Hey All After having my ke25 written off by an old lady i picked up a AE82 Sedan for 1000 bucks and have found that it has 2 annoying electrical faults that i want to fix and need to know if i can fix the current setup or need to replace them. 1) Fuel Gauge - Basically the fuel gauge will go straight to full when car is filled up with fuel and then after a doing some K's say 100 or so it will go down to 3/4 full and from there it won't move at all and will occasionally have the fuel light come on despite only using around 1/2 a tank (i go by k's to work out when it needs fuel). So anyone got any idea what the problem may be? 2) Temp Gauge - Basically all the temp gauge does is once the car is turned on it goes straight past red to maximum deflection. Once again anyone go any idea what the problem may be and would it be best just to replace the temp gauge with an aftermarket one. I'm more concerned with the temp gauge as it's an old car and i'd prefer to know when/if the engine is gonna blow :P Cheers for any help Mark
  17. painting it red, will have pics up once the car is finished and painted as i'm in SA and the car is in QLD hehe sucks i want it sooo bad, just can't justify spending all my savings on it just yet. Haven't driven a turbo car since my ca18det 1984 bluebird wagon hehe which was around 3 years ago and this thing will / should be alot faster.
  18. yeah john moved a while ago, can't remember to what suburb but it's further up gympie rd and off to the left near some school. Originally he was gonna help with the conversion but it was the same time that he was getting his import buisness off the ground so alas no joy, originally john had talked me into a twin-charge setup, so i guess i can always wonder what might have been.
  19. nice, as i assumed :) cheers for replies
  20. Hey All, my project has been on my mind alot lately and figured i let you guys know officially what's done and what's do be done. I bought the car from John from importbits as some guys from toymods might know him about 2-3 years ago. I had already just bought a sprinter shell off him and was about to do a 3tgte conversion when i spotted this ke25 sitting in his garage looking sad and un-loved. So i sold my sprinter and coughed up the cash for the ke25. It already had a 4agze sitting in the engine bay, missing the super charger and wiring but it was one thing i didn't have to do. It also already had a set of Magna slotted discs up front, custom adjustable swaybard and a 120y diff with trx breaks with a hydraulic handbrake (why 120y diff i don't know). From there i purchased a Blitz KKK K26 turbo kit with external wastegate and a haltech e6k all up for around $2400. The next purchase was one of bill sherwoods 4a-w5x bellhousings and a w57 from clint in perth. Surprisingly after i had the majority of the stuff sitting in the car waiting to be installed i ran out of steam to get the thing going and it practically sat in a mates backyard for about a year doing nothing. After a while it made its way to Anthony Kelham's back yard and since then the wiring, turbo mounting, gearbox and clutch install has been done. So basically all that is left to do is find a suitable diff, which at the moment i'm thinking a g-series RN2X diff as it's 1375mm which with some different offset wheels and maybe some flare mods will fit without having to shorten the diff which will save me atleast 1k. From there its simply a new exhaust and intercooler and some minor serivicing and finally a tune and it should be ready for the road. As some of you may have guessed sitting in someones backyard isn't great for a 30+ car so it will also be getting a paint job which is costing me a ke55 for my mates pain and suffering of painting it. Once done i'm hoping for around 250Hp atw with a lot of lag considering the turbo, but lots of fun none the less. This will probably be my last big pain in the arse conversion after this car i'm going back to buying a car with a turbo already as i hate not having the time and money to finish projects hehehe, but this should easily be the fastest car i've owned compared to my S4 rx7 turbo (which i loved except for the fuel consumption). I don't have any pics but i'm pretty sure demuire has some old ones as i remember seeing them on his website YEARS ago, its the RED ROCKET owned previously by paul pyvvarra (spelling?). Looking back i've just realised i've owned 12 cars in like 5-6 years. IT MUST STOP hehe
  21. Ok as most of you know my 4k ke25 is dead. My question is are any of the internals from a 4k interchangable into a 4af-c (I'm pretty sure the ae82 csx was a 4af-c as the ae92 csx is a 4af-c). It's more for my own amusement if things like cam's, extractors are interchangable into a 4af-c i'm pretty sure that they probably aren't but hey, if you got em use em. Also i had a 32/36 webber (i think it was a 32/36) on the 4k which was running rich and was wondering if i should keep it in case the carby on the ae82 ever dies. This is all in the off-chance i can buy the wreck off the insurance for cheap. If i can buy it off the insurance for cheap and there's nothing i can swap over to the 4af-c then i'll keep it and sell it instead of having it lie dead in some wreckers. I loved that 4k, for some unknown reason it was fuel efficient, even with me giving it some quite often (250-270 miles per 30ltrs highway driving).
  22. surprisingly not alot of my mates have made a similar comment. Considering it was during the day and sunny, a bright yellow car you would think would be un-missable. Next car should be army camo paint go the reverse psychology route.
  23. Some of you guys might wanna have a look at the dead car, so i uploaded some pics. http://mlaser.gallery.netspace.net.au/album01 go for gold and comments are always fun
  24. this picture gave me an idea and i'm wondering if anyone has seen it or tried it before. But would it be possible to have a light setup where based on revs your speedo actually changes colour from green to yellow to red ie like a shift light i reckon it would be a cool effect, although some may say it would be tachy but hey they probably have a shift light anyway :D hehe
