We put the t18 rear springs in today and now it looks like this -_-
-
I agree, much easier to muck with the back at this stage. Will try different springs and see if I can get it feeling more stable. The rear doesn't feel too stiff, but it is much lower than the front.
-
Yeah. It felt ok with the 4k, but with the extra power, the front gets too light when accelerating now.
-
Took it for its first short test drive. The difference between 4k and 4age was immediately obvious. Here's a excerpt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ersnSM8XI0

Its like that so you appear to be commencing a drag race, even when parked.
-
Running and drivable. Just the dash and front bumper to finish now, and maybe some sort of cold air intake.

Just read through all of this. Quite a few khana cars on here. Amazed you drive it to and from events. We're always impressed if we've got anything left to put on the trailer at the end of the day! I'm still using the massive t18 steering arms, but if I read it right, the ae86 arms will fit the t18 struts too?

Stock t18 springs as far as I know. Front does sit fairly high and has heaps of travel for soaking up the bumps. Here's a couple of videos. More on youtube. http://youtu.be/TqhL_gKyT-Q http://youtu.be/J5Vkw2BMLsc

After the sudden death of my T18 last year, I was left with a void in my life and a brown spot in my lawn that could only be filled by another corolla. I wanted a car to compete in khanacross events that could make use of our stockpile of surplus ae86 and te72 parts. Then this showed up. Perfect! It started life as an "S" spec auto ke70 and was converted to 5 speed manual at some stage. It had lain dormant for a while after its duties as a daily driver ended. It was rudely reawakened late last year when a temporary rego permit was slapped on the windscreen and Mr Yoda drove it on one last epic road trip from Brisbane to Cairns. It was revolting, but it made it! Its days on the road now officially over, I set about getting it race ready. Virtually all of the interior went in the bin and we put in some cheap seats, plywood door trim and Italian leather (and electrical tape) steering wheel. A 12v fan on the dash is the only concession to driver comfort. The stock ke70 suspension all went in the bin too. Up front it now has sigma lower control arms and t18 front struts with rebuilt brakes (larger than ke70 ones). Rear end is a t18 t-series with TRD 2 way lsd, gas struts, TRD ae86 lowering springs and no swaybar. For off road grip, we used some studded ice tyres on the front and some normal snow tyres on the rear. We then took it racing and did a bit of this and the exhaust did a bit of this and we did some more of this and this and the car came back looking like this It handled really well. Brakes were savage, steering was sharp and the rear slid very predictably. However, it was pathetically slow. We soon found the problem A filthy 4k! No worries, that's easily fixed. Now, on the front verandah, we had a car containing much of the driveline out of this So we set about removing all the useful parts and as of this evening, our ke70 is now looking like this Just the wiring and fuel tank left to complete. Shouldn't have any problems spinning the tyres on dirt now.

Swap cars

Replacing one oil-encrusted lump of slag with another. But at least you'll have a running car again.
-
Our tow car will be off collecting other treasure this weekend. Jesse do you have a crane to do the engine swap from blue wagon at your place? If not, Jarad and I could bring one and give you a hand. Wouldn't take long. In return, we'd grab the wagon later in the week and dismember it at our leisure, setting aside the bits that have been reserved. Sound like a plan?

LOL, I found this video earlier today and went wtf?? Can't wait to see the bloke's reply.

Negative. I've got some leather and suede sw20 mr2 seats. They are very good - much better than the ae86 ones. Not parting with them though, but if you find some, get them. Only minor mod to bracket to make them fit ke70/ae86 etc. Very comfortable and plenty of side bolstering - adjustable on the drivers side, same as the ae86 gtv/apex seat.
-
Other option is to find a t18, but up here that's pretty unlikely. They have drums though, no swaybar mounts and you'd still need to buy an lsd.

So does anyone on here own the yellow ke70 panel van I saw heading south from Cairns towards Gordonvale yesterday arvo? They definitely spotted me, judging by the amount of arms flailing out the window! Hadn't seen that car before.
-
Hey Glen. All the cool people have ae82s, especially the really mad single cam auto ones. :laff: The wreckers in Gordonvale sometimes have an ae82 in their yard. I've picked up a few bits and pieces there. All the older stuff has rusted away long ago.
-
AE86's are so rare up here you can't afford to send anything remotely usable to scrap. Even the really rusted out and mangled ones we've stripped every last piece out of before disposing of them. The soft front springs cause a lot of brake dive, even when driving normally. On the track it resulted in sudden and unexpected direction changes when coming out of a corner. This is how the white levin was set up when I bought it though. It also had one front shock locked solid and the other alternated between rock hard and nothing - bounce, bounce, slam!
-
Got the black levin on the road now and took it to its first track day last weekend. Minor dramas with the front wheel bearings starting to give out after 2 laps. Tightening them until the wheels stopped wobbling got me through the day and 120km drive home. Its making horrible noises again now, so time to fix it properly. Track had dried out a bit while I was doing the bearings, so I put on my stickier but bald tyres. Ran short of time though, so had to go out half dressed. Engine is burning a ridiculous amount of oil too - about a litre in half an hour of racing :S Seeing Derek in the smoke trail behind me was rather funny though. And the mismatched suspension with stiff shocks, 4.5kg front springs and 6.5kg rears made for some exciting and terrifying handling. Will definitely sort that out before the next one! So I was trying to make anagrams of my AJPS Super Corolla Tuning sticker, and this is what I came up with... Sorry Dave :P

Sometimes you can pick up a bargain, but yeah they can cost a fortune. If I had to pick between those two, it would be the hayashi street copy.
