  1. My neglected car started, so I'll come along and try to follow you. Only a 5 minute drive home if the showers coming through.
  2. A bit of khanacross from last weekend
  3. The engine has exploded a couple of times now, but the latest version has held together for a few events. Below is my attempt at filmmaking during last khanacross. http://youtu.be/iTX7qBsK3qI
  4. Took it up to MakoTrac again today. Fitted out with Federal 595-RSR tyres and a muffler. Engine still not at its full potential, but damn it was quick through the corners.
  5. Rally car one week, race car the next. Now in bitumen track mode. Needed to fit 15x8's with 205s on them, so attacked rear guards with a hammer and vice grips. Has 86 front struts and brakes again, plus camber tops. Camber is set to something ridiculous. Will need a wheel alignment before track day next weekend.
  6. Haven't updated this for ages. We sort of blew the car up at the end of last year. Or thought we had, but turns out it was just hydro-locked with oil. During some very enthusiastic laps of the speedway track, the breather filled up the intake manifold with oil. It lost power and had massive amounts of smoke and oil was pouring out of the exhaust and air filter. Looked bad, so we packed up, went home and tore the engine down. Inside we found it was running a blacktop crank and piston set, with new flycuts made to clear the 16v valves. This was in a 7 rib block without oil squirters - either from an mr2, or from the very last of the jdm ae86s, which is what the engine came out of. So that was a nice bonus. Rebuilt with new bearings, rings, a ported head and ~264 deg cams, it now has around 210psi of compression instead of the normal 180 and sounds absolutely furious again. Pic of the pistons and a standard bigport piston for comparison. And here's the motor looking all pretty before getting covered in dirt again Also put in a half cage and harness because things were getting pretty crazy by the end of last year And now we're back to doing this again!
  7. $750 should be enough for some Red Bull and helium balloons. That should get it to break the sound barrier if you drop it from high enough ;) Other than that, sell it and buy a twincam one?
  8. Hadn't read this thread for a while. What a shame. At least its still a very common car and easy to replace. We've just done an event where the track is lined with tyres - all there just to help you on your way if you slide a bit too wide -_- I really don't see the need for them.
  9. Well the car show time trial was a disaster. Car went out and crashed straight into a barrier. Rear brakes were locking and fronts weren't doing anything. Spend most of the time replacing and bleeding the brake system on the side of the track. Couldn't get them working so sent it to a brake shop. They said the front right calliper bracket was bent. Must have been damaged in the crash that destroyed the donor 86. Replaced that and the pads and it worked great again. So last weekend we made the 1200 km round-trip to compete in a mixed khanacross in Proserpine. Two days of racing, one on dirt, the other on the new bitumen kart/bike/drift circuit. Was a really fun weekend. We beat all but a clubman on the bitumen but are far less experienced the dirt. I managed to get a 3rd outright and 3rd in <1600cc class.
  10. Cool, I'll be there all weekend.
  11. In its quest to contain a part from every 80's toyota created, our ke70 has now assimilated a supra. Seats from a derelict MA61, seen here in hipstervision. Front two bolts line up, but for the rear I had to get creative with bits of flat bar. Looks dodgy but feels solid enough. Tomorrow it goes to its first car show, the Cairns Auto Spectacular. They have a small time trial event, so we're taking this and my ae86 coupe. It should surprise a few people.
  12. Thanks to global warming I hope never to have to put that to the test!
  13. Just don't do this Or this -_- I've had my ae82 for 15 years now and this is what I've done to it Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I didn't see the point of making it look like something it wasn't. Its nice having a normal car of that era that's still in good nick though.
  14. I can't imagine why that got defected... Will be awesome fun once you get it set up.
  15. AE82 and AE86 are the chassis codes! AE82 is slightly longer and slightly wider. The body kit will fit with some modification, but the car ends up looking like a parody of an ae86, and fender mirrors will just take it up another level.
  16. Unfortunately it is not real. http://www.virtualmodels.org/photoshop-chops/toyota/corolla-e80-5-door-zx-efi Proportions of the car have been changed too.
  17. Here's what I did with mine.
  18. Apparently I'm "hoon of the day" on Jalopnik http://jalopnik.com/5936944/you-don't-need-buckets-of-cash-for-an-all+out-hoonmobile
  19. Yeah, I'll add some in the next day or so. It was a practice/driver training day, but we took this thing, an 86 and a celsior and went absolutely nuts. The celsior was the star attraction. Not only did it tow the ke70 to the track, it got on the track and did this It then towed the ke70 100km home again in complete luxury.
  20. Bitumen racing today. Evo never stood a chance!
  21. Now you've had some practice, make me one!
  22. In a word "Yes". In two words "Hell Yes!" Go from the most boring car on earth to something really fun in a few easy steps. You're pretty much repeating what we've done this year, right down to the colour of the car :D We took a wrecked jdm 86 and put all the mechanicals and electrics into a ke70 shell. Everything that made the ke70 work went in the bin. We put some high quality but not too stiff suspension in it and for minimal expenditure, we have a car that is fantastic to drive and competitive both on road and off. My build thread here http://www.rollaclub...603-swamp-ke70/ And a video of how it will drive with a healthy bigport 4age and good suspension.
  23. So much fun! Here's some video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gSK4SdHFBo
