Teddy
Hey all I made this document for pat, to help him chooze his corolla, but i may as well show it to every 1 else to see what they can learn from it - or tell me if theres stuff ive missed out / need to add etc. Corollas – 1980 to 1984 by Teddy Ok, I have made up a few pages to try and help you when it comes to getting your old last RWD edition corolla. I'll explain the differences between the models, what each model came with and anything else u should know. First up, ill explain a bit about the models and stuff… In Australia, we got the Ke70, Ae71 as the main sort of RWD corollas. (1980 – 1984) There were others, but I wont go into that detail on this just yet. Ke70 Came as a Sedan 4 door, Station wagon and Panel van. (And a 2 door cope' overseas) In Australia we got the 4 door, station wagon and some (rarer) panel vans. – There are some 2 doors, but I am not sure if they were available from new here without being imported. Ke70 Sedan – The ke70 in Australia came out with 2 front ends. The early model (in nicks car (1980, 1981 and 1982)) and the later model (on the White car below (1983 & 1984)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basic Exterior differences – telling the Ke70 and Ae71 apart The Ke70 has a 1.3L motor know as a 4k. It came out with 2 different front ends like on the 2 pics above. The Ae71 has a 1.6L motor know as the 4a. It came out only with the later edition front end (2nd pic up above) You can tell the difference between the Ke70's and the Ae71's with the fender badges. The Ke70 has “HI-Cam†on the fenders, (as in both pics above) and the Ae71's have 1.6 on them (the blue car below – sorry for crap photo, all I could find which you can some what see 1.6 badge) For details sake, the Hi-cam badge is positioned above the ‘metal grove' and the 1.6 badge is positioned just under it, you can see it in all 3 pics so far J - just remember, some people remove them / or some of them get resprays and they don't get put back on. Here is a pic of the station wagon, 2-door cope and panel van just so u know…. The station wagon came with both the old and new front end The 2-door version (Ke71/Ae70 I think) – good luck trying to get parts for those in Australia! The panel van – (not stock wheels) Over sea's versions of these cars all had different front ends, twin lights, different positions for various blinkers… etc; but that's another 10 pages just for that – no need to know that yet lol ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, so now that you know the basic differences between an Ae71 and a Ke70, I'll go into a little more detail about the – differences with relation to models, etc. Differences with relation to the models Ok, as you know, the Ke70 came with different front ends, well, it's the same deal with the interiors to some extent. Teddy
Time for Corolla Defects! Rust Mechanically, corollas are usually pretty good. The body on the other hand can either be basically rust free or every panel has a bit of rust… and there’s always the in between! Read the pics…! Around the fuel cap area The Quarter panels Door’s Boot Seal lip & Boot Roof & Around That’s basically the most common areas for corollas of that vintage… (Here is a list, which sums it up, in order of most common rust places…) 1. Boot Lip 2. Quater panels 3. Bottom of doors 4. Wheel arches 5. Roof areas 6. Around Front and Rear Windows Summary The price of a ke70 ranges from $0.00 (get it outa my sight type sale) to about 2500 for a overrated condition example. The good thing about these corollas is that a lot of old people still drive them = a lot of good cheap corollas getting around. The motors in these cars just don’t want to die…(especially the K motors), but the rust in some of them is nothing short of annoying, so be prepared for some sort of rust work. Enjoy :P - Cya ! Sir_Daywalker
YEH have to disagree with some of the specs laid out for the 84 i have a february 84 ke70 it is a cs it has retractable seat belts front and back. It does not have door pockets you missed that they all came with an in dash POS phillips tuner or as an optional extra a phillips cassette player with tuner. You also didn't mention that asking for parts at a wreckers for a ke70 will usually get you looking at a 81 - 83 as the wreckers books only list the 84 as a AE71 the reason for this is as you most should know K denotes k engine A denotes A Engine E Denotes Corolla Numbers are the model Corolla it is But don't ask me why wreckers only have the 84 as a ae71 considering that there were only about 500 AE71's actually imported to australia as most of the 84's have the K series engine. Sorry teddy if i messed up your post but i know a bit about the KE70/AE71's too after owning one for nearly two yrs and having to find replacement parts which is a bitch in Toowoomba btw as those of us that live here that are car enthusiasts call it a FUDGIN RETIREMENT VILLAGE. The cops leave the old farts that cause the most accidents up here alone and pick on the young ones that are doing nothing wrong other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have found most police to be prejudice against the older cars that have a few stickers and make some nice zhaust sounds that are driven by some of the young ones here like me i am only 21 then the ones that are only 17 - 19 driving r33's that mummy n daddy gave them. Toowoomba great place to visit but watch out for the bloody ʇ~~ɔstubbles we have they are a bunch o pricks. Oh if anybody is interested the carnival of flowers this year will be led by 30 of toowoombas best cars including a rs 1800 escort that pulls over 320 hp at the wheels. want that in kilowatts its approx 238kw

rjenman
"r33 that mummy and daddy bought them" yeah its a bit like that hey. People with expensive doof-doof, womm-CHSHHH-womm cars are either young and spoilt, in debt, or genuinely good with money but those people are rare cos people who get rich are generally people who don't want to "waste" money on something "pointless" like a car. which brings me to my point that my ke70 is f@$king cool. :D for spoilt little bitches who think my car is shit, I'm happy. yeah.
