SLO-030 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 i like how you've gone an labeled everything, very smart in an engine bay that chockers with wires and what not. Read the whole thread last week and shes come along way. Great job. Quote
Johno Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 I thought id fill you in on whats been happening. Engine convo: I will hopefully be picking up the 4age engine, ECU and gearbox in around 2 weeks, complete 4age wire loom is coming from Sydney sometime soon as well. Still have to find a twinky fuel tank. I'm still in the process of removing the 4ac and labeling everything with blue tape and a marker so i know where everything goes. Air con: Still looking around for a mechanic who will drive all the way to the top of Mt Dandenong to take the gas out of the system. Body: All doors, panels, lights, bumpers are removed, Still need to sand and prep all doors. I bought a new rear left hand door because of my attempt to break in my car left the rear door totally smegged. I still have to buy front left quarter (old one has a big dent in it) and a tailgate with rear demister from wreckers. Paint: Painting is going ok, I rubbed down the bonnet again cos in the 5 days i left it as bare metal, it rusted up again. I used quick-stop nitro putty and filled up about 4 small dents, primed the whole bonnet in Etch primer and wet sanded it with 240grit. After sanding it i noticed another 3 dents i have to fill. I still have to etch prime the roof but that can wait till later. Undercoating the rest of the car will be left till later when the engine is out. Interior: All the seats, Carpet, seat belts, Plastics, Dash and pretty much anything else i can think of is out. I'm happy with how everything is going but would love to spend more time on it, At the moment i'm spending about 2 hours after work working on it most nights, I don't want to put a date on when it will be finished but i hope it will be ready to drive next year before GOR cruise. I miss driving it sooo much and i'm sick of driving round in a stock automatic Ford. Quote
Johno Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 I have a question, I have a 1.6l carb engine. Need more power but don't want to spend too much money. Could i get the engine pulled out and recond with new cam, webber and other stuff or put a twin cam in. Buget is about $2500 *EFI and Turbo, EFI and Turbo* :( lol! yeah i wish! :P I was looking through some of my posts from 6 months ago. Well I didnt think i'll do it but I'm half way there with a 4age Quote
Johno Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 Finally got someone coming out to do the aircon, took a bit of persuading to get someone to come up to mt dandy. $65 bucks on site. Quote
Johno Posted November 8, 2008 Author Report Posted November 8, 2008 Sorry guys, not much of an update. Got the air con de-gased... thats it. :y: Quote
Kid-Ae Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 You better have got it done through my old work, Iceman? It's been way to long since ive been on RC, she's looking the goods with the conversion mate :) Bored of the Falcon yet? lol just more persuasion to make the rolla go harder than it Quote
Johno Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 (edited) I'm sure the rolla will kick the EL's ass... he he! Small little update.. All the aircon lines are out, bottom engine mounts, clutch line and everything you can think of apart from the engine block are out. I have a mechanic workshop is 3 doors away from my house. I asked him to take out my engine.. "next week i'll call you for a time" He didn't call, I went to his workshop and asked again "I'll call you in a week or so and work out a time" I have been waiting for about 9 days for that call... I have seen him in person twice and i think he's getting sick of me asking. I told him flat out, do you want to do it or not? Yeah yeah, i'll do it but its going to take some time." I stared to Ark up a bit cos i hate been stuffed around and its happened with quite a few things lately. I left his shop saying "Just Call me" I've had enough of him and I'm hiring a crane, bought a breaker bar, air wrench and clutch line tool. He was going to charge me $200 to take it out. All he had to do was undo 2 upper engine mounts and unscrew the drive axles. 4 bolts in total! can't do anything till the 4ac is out, once it is out I'll prep the engine bay and send it off to get painted. I've been a real slack prick lately and still have to sand all the doors. Good news about the 4age engine, Picking it up next weekend.. YAY! Edited November 23, 2008 by Johno Quote
Johno Posted November 23, 2008 Author Report Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) Ok guys and girls, Big update time.. Been waiting ages to say this, very proud to say the engine is out! Hired the crane, undid the 4 bolts like I said yesterday and came out fairly easily. Thanks to Andrew and Matt for your help :) I'll let the pics to the talking. Bowler Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 With that sort of clearance, hello AE82 Corolla RS :) Also, a unanimous decision about how best to remove an engine was made. - Count the number of bolts needing to be undone, multiply by how many "helpers" = the amount of beer that will need to be purchased. Now, every time a bolt is removed, stop for a few moments, and have a celebratory drink. Job might not get done to quickly, but very fun way to do it... Quote
Johno Posted November 23, 2008 Author Report Posted November 23, 2008 I'm still going with the beers and I agree with you, one beer per bolt undone and throw a few more beers in for every time we lift the engine a few more inches.. lol Quote
Bowler Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 Hey Johno - I just figured out somthing, with all that chain, all you need now is the Boat, and you'll be right Quote
Johno Posted November 23, 2008 Author Report Posted November 23, 2008 Thats pretty much all its good for now or a monster go-kart.. :) Quote
