TOM Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) Hello fellow rollaclubbers, I have read of at least a few people on here who are musicians, so out of interest I though I would see if anyone wants to share their gift with us! Raven, I'm talking to you you god-of-metal! I realise this could be a useless waste of time (please tell me if it is!) but I thought it was worth a try I put it in off-topic and I don't initially expect much response, but....surprise me! To get the ball rolling... I'm 28 and have been playing guitar on and off since I was 15. I'm self taught with an ignorant teacher. I play mainly acoustic guitar but have recently bought an electric... Have been in numerous bands, but the last 5 years has really been dedicated to Athletic Teenage Joggers, a 4-piece (bass, drums, vocals and guitar+vocals) project of my own creation. It could loosely be described as hardcore acoustic folk rock (!!!!!! :rocknroll:!!!! , with influences ranging from Tool to Alient Ant Farm, and from Meshuggah to Crowded House. It's mainly very fast, catchy, sometimes quite heavy and melodic but also funky/jazzy and ballady at times. We've struggled with many issues, the biggest of which being my wrists - they are both permanently damaged from a work related injury, and other 4-young-guys-and-pubs+alcohol problems, but have just started jamming again and I have written lots of new material. We will hopefully be gigging again in the next month or so - can post gig info! Anyway my current setup includes: Acoustic *Maton EM325C acoustic/electric guitar. Beautiful Australian made *Takamine EF340SC acoustic/electric for lower tunings. Ageing very well *Fishman Loudbox 250 watt acoustic amplifier. The best acoustic amp around! *Plus my dads 1965 Kiso Suzuki Hummingbird copy, my house guitar which is a beautiful and rare family guitar which I could never part with! Electric * Guitar: Vintage rare and sought after Yamaha Lord Player 400 Japanese made Les Paul copy from 1982. A lovely instrument * Amp: New Fender Hotrod Deville 4x10 60watt all valve combo 3 channel...oooohhh yeah :jamie: A host of boss pedals which I use with both setups And a 400 watt P.A system with lots of mics, leads etc etc Cheers, Tom Edited May 1, 2008 by TOM Quote

bLinded_ Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Metal guitarist here :jamie: . Been playing for about 5 years now, all self taught. Never "owned" my own guitar though until only recently when I built my own electric. :P I used to use my sisters POS yamaha thing and Peavey Rage 15watt practice amp when I first started as she never used it. After that I then moved on to acquiring her boyfreind's(now husband) old school Yamaha Pacifica. Last year though, after feeling much guilt for having "borrowed" his guitar for so long(3 years), and the large need for an upgrade, I decided to make a guitar for my yr 12 DnT major work instead of buying one. My guitar: Mmm, seven string goodness :y: Band wise, I've never done anything too serious. Was in a band with a few of my mates which we got together to play throughout school and all those sorts of things. Never had a proper name though, so we just went by the name Testicular Sound Express (TSE) so that way we could be introduced as something when we played :rocknroll: Oh yeah, may or may not have been inspired by Family Guy. -Alex Quote

Raven Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) So you want to know my story hey..... ok, here goes! I also started guitar when I was 15. I took a year of lessons an then taught myself. I'm now 25 turning 26 in July. Influences My main influence back then was Fear Factory and my playing style is very similar to that of Dino Cazares though I also get into melodic death metal like Soilwork, InFlames, Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom etc etc so I have the rhythm capabilites as well as the melodic playing on top. My Set-up My main guitar that I use is a Schecter Damien FR, followd by a modified Ibanez EX170 and then a hand-me-down dodgy acoustic which I havent touched since I moved into my new place. The amp I use is a handmade "Woogie" with a 60/100watt switch and its alllllllll valve. 4 Power Tubes and 3 Pre-amp tubes. Into this I run a Boss GT-3 multi-effects pedal and that all pumps out through an un-named quad box. Bands I've Been In I've been in 3 bands (not counting high school jam band). The first was called Recrimination. We were a 4 piece (two male, two female members) Metalcore band with a chick vocalist that could out-growl some of the guys in Adelaide 4 years ago. The next after that was a band called Within Reason. We were Rock/Metal and during that time I had a big Soulfly/Max Cavalera influence as well, so it had a slight Soulfly sound which was cool. The guitar I used in that band was a Gibson SG Copy (J&D Luthiers brand) with my then guitar techs custom hand-wound pick-ups installed and gee it had balls, but it was a heavy son of a bitch. My last band I only played one show with. It's still going and is called The Ascension Process. Very melodic death metal with the influences I was listening to at the time. Since then I've been writing a few riffs here and there and may have pieced together another band, but will see what happens in the next month regarding that. If you want to hear a dodgy recording before I had my amp fixed, let me know via PM and I'll pass on my MSN addy. Cheers Raven Edited May 1, 2008 by Raven Quote
