ScottKE1X Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 just did a search.i was led to believe that you needed a hard lining to mount things to your roof. but an easy DIY way is to remove your original lining and screw lengths of wood to the roog bracings and from there mount whatever you want! much easier! custom downlight install here we come!! Downlights, Yikes! better get a fire extinguisher Luc... I like that idea of screwing lengths of "wood" to the bracings. I'm going to try that. Quote

harun Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 (edited) Why in gods name would you put downlights into your car, unless your planing to live in it and building a kitchen in the back. Edited June 13, 2008 by harun Quote
TheNOBBLER[RL] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Ha! thats a pisser Harun... Ok, Straight up I will tell you to go see a trimmer. I'm a trimmer myself and there is nothing worse than having to fix someone elses stuff ups. Now, not saying your not going to do a good job, just saying that iff you bugger it up someone will have to fix it! I havent had a look at the factory moulded lining so I'm not sure if I can help you there but the "nowmal" lining with the roof bows (metal rods) behind it is pretty easy. You can either take your old one to a trimmer and they will copy it and fit it yourself or get them to fit it to the car. Its a pretty straight forward job proveded you know what your doing and have access to some contact adhesive and a heat gun... just don't heat it up so much that it melts!!!!! As for a custom solid board like the commodores etc, it would be a right pain in the ass. It can be done, but to get it to look right as aposed to just getting it to fit are two different things. You also have to remember, if you have a solid lining that clips in etc, how are you supposed to get it in the car? Those door openings arent all that big! Anyway, enough from me... Hope some of this helps. JP Quote

Haha funny man. have you seen it done on custom cars? it looks really good. Basically it replaces your interior light. you hook them up to your doors. better truer light. When it done i'll post some pics. will be getting a new lining made up soon... i hope. sooo many things going on at once! Edited June 13, 2008 by blackrolla80 Quote
charl Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 my partner made my roof lining for me by using the old one as a template, even though it was ripped to shit, and then i installed it into the car. worked a treat and cost a whole 20 bucks!! check out my thread for some pics. give it a shot its alot easier than you think.!! Gspec Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Downlights, Yikes! better get a fire extinguisher... We install halogen downlights in our cars... no fires. :) Quote
Kid-Ae Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Those hummers are flame retarded, not flame retartant :) I'm thinking of getting custom decals on my roof lining. Anyone know a artist who can put the design my mate drew onto the fabric? Will be awesome when done. Shall scan the pic and post it up. Some seriously artist stuff Quote
