white_sandshoe Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Hi All!!! I got a T-18 I am doing up, and something i have come across lately, and something that opitimises the style I am looking at, is the concept of "Modifications that look Stock" I want to know what people consider as performance modifications that look stock... Anything you think will improve the handling, comfort or overall appeal of the car while giving the impression that "hey, it could/should have come from the factory like that..." Anything from rims, exhaust, engine conversions, suspension, seats and interior mods... anything goes... I want to hear thoughts on every aspect. Looking forward to all your ideas. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Could get a set of factory steel wheels for it and get them widened to take some fat tires. Rims stock but wide for more grip. Can be done heard it was about $60a rim to be done takes 2 rims to make one wider stock one. Cam Quote
towe001 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Talking about steel wheels. The later model Corona rims look fairly similar to the Corolla rims - 14"verse 13" Back to the T-18 The steel rear bumper looks better then the plastic rubbishy thing the later model had. The front end looks better with quad lights. Quote
Des Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Corona 14's will hit the front struts on a Ke70 so they may hit on a T18, Not 100% though. People put their Cd players in the glove box to save cutting up the dash on older cars etc. Quote
Raven Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Coronas 14's don't hit on the front struts of my KE25 :D Quote
towe001 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Did have the early model corona rims on my old T18. Was going to swap them over to the later model ones cause of them looking better but found some similar looking sigma rims instead. Quote
The D Man Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I have corona wheels on my early model KE70 now and they don't hit Quote
Doogs Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Aftermarket downdraft carb, with standard snorkel modified to fit over the top. Drill/cut holes in base of snorkel around carb throat for better airflow, and cover carb top with a slimmer filter. Quote

philbey Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Yeh, I have thought about getting widened stockies in the past. My old man knew a stock car racer, they used to do it themselves, slice a rim and weld a 1 inch flat strip around it. If you were handy with the welder, you could do it carefully, then let the balance get sorted by the tyre shop. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 yeah, i 4age conversion can look very much like stock, because all the mounts are factory ae71/sprinter items... sprinter struts with jdm brakes, bolt straight in. if you feel like splashing more cash, a factory rear disk brake set-up. if/when you get aftermarket springs paint them black before installation. buy a lsd centre (zenki) grab a rear swaybar and the mounts to the chassis from a ke70/ae71 than weld on some mounts to your diff. convert to rack and pinion steering (bit of work) or adjust your lock stops (see tech section i made a post on how) to get more lock. exhaust, well any upgraded exhaust will be louder in 99.99% of cases. a plain sports muffler (and larger pipe) shouldn't look too obvious. fold up the inner lip of the guards (the part that joins the inner and the outer together) for extra tyre clearance but no change to the way the lines look. or if you must flare them, don't go crazy and try and keep to smooth flowing lines. stockies have no where near enough offset imo plus widened steel wheels are stupidly heavy, maybe for a commo that wouldnt be so bad but on a lighter car....
