just wondering, when ya get ya flywheel machined ( lightned ) do they take your whole engine out to do the job or can they just take the tailshaft out and take out the gear box and get to it that way...?

 

and iv heard its about $80 to lighten but does that include taking it out an putting it in??? :P

there is a bit of labour involved. so it would be $80 for the lightening itself!

ye i didnt think it would include taking it in an out, effort.

Probably anywhere from $200 for the cheapest backyard dude around up to something like $500 to remove and replace.

Dunno about lightening, but to skim her flat for a new clutch, It cost me about 60 bucks from Edwardstown Clutch and Brake Service (ECBS). I pulled it out myself though (box out the bottom).

has anyone done this? i think itll give the old 4k a nice kick in the pants!

it cost me 40 bucks at LSI in campsie in sydney the thing is i take the flywheel to them, i guess it depends what your budget is

ye I'm keen on getting it done, make it sound it bit tougher and hopefully contribute to some more power along with the weber, extractors, cam, ect.

 

ye taking it out yourself an bringing it to them would be the best an cheapest way,

i would have done this but because I'm a frickin stupid idiot :hmm: i just put my new engine in and wired it all up ready to go and then i decided i wanted to lighten the flywheel....! so I'm not really keen to do it all again atm if ya no what i mean.

 

hahah, oooowel! so this is why i was interested in how much it would cost to get it pulled out an put in...

 

so if its gunna cost me between 200 to 500 to get it done then i guess ill just do it myself,

 

also whats the advantages of a custom lightned alloy flywheel compared to just getting it machined??? besides the price ofcoarse.. :)

Machined stock flywheels can sometimes crack or even fly apart. Remember they turn at up to 8000rpm for a K motor!!

 

Custom billet flywheels are still light, but have more integrity to hold themselves together.

 

Easiest way to remove the flywheel would probably be to remove the gearbox and leave the motor in place. :)

Mate if you have a nice cam, it'll get lumpier, as for sounding any better with a stock cam, I doubt it.

 

As far as going faster/more power, again - no.

 

For the effort of pulling it out and putting it in, just for a lightening job......
