Ben-89 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Sorry for the late reply guys, Matt the Monroe shocks are perfect for the normal driving I do. So I was luck I didnt have to replace them, the money saved can be put towards other things on the car if the time arises. Dave, I'm happy with the car as it is at the moment, but there are always little things which need to be done which is always part of a project, no matter how small or big it is. In question to the mirror, the Corona one fits quite well. There are some photos of where I had to relocate the mounting holes, or expand the existing ones to accomodate the Corona mirror. If you have a fussy eye like me, you'll notice the outside plastic backing plate which sits inside the door frame dosent line up with the waistline of the door, as the Coronas waistline sweeps up where it meets the A pillar while the Corolla's dosent. Azz, Muffler Magic is quite honest and efficent in the service they provide and I'd recommend them to anyone. Quote
Ben-89 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 (edited) I've had the AE71 just over two months now, and today I went to pick, pay n' go to see what I could find. There were two ke70's, a beige and bronze one. The bronze one had very tidy beaver panel sections above the rear tail lights. As I saw this car a fortnight ago I made sure I went back with a hack saw to chop the panels out. I was lucky the car was still there and after removing the tail lights there was no rust is any of the seems or folds where those old spongy moisture holding gaskets reside.... There is a few bubbles under the paint where the boot rubber slids over, but its definitley better than whats on the car. Photos of the two replacement sections. Ben-89 Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) Since I have been on here I purchased a new boot rubber, as the old will be thrown out when I have the above metal replacements welded in. Prior to me owing the white ke70, it had a rear muffler replacement but it wasnt what you'd call a standard muffler as it was preety droney. Anyway after a few months I decided to replace it with an oem unit and store this under the house. Then when I had the ae71 I remembered that I still had the system under the house, so in no time was the car in the air before the systems swapped over. Once everything was bolted, hung and cleaned up it was time to hear the results. A very nice hum or purr could be heard from the 4ac, while driving it sounds good too without being too intrusive or droney like it was in the ke. But importantly its in the lagal limits and still looks standard! Here are some photos. Edited April 3, 2010 by "The Mint KE70" Quote
Ben-89 Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) I took the ke out for a run and brought the ae71 along for some photos. There can never be enough photos.... Edited November 27, 2010 by "The Mint KE70" Quote
Ben-89 Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) And more..... One thing is missing though, more Corollas of any model would make the photos even better. Edited April 3, 2010 by "The Mint KE70" Quote
78_7kRolla Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Great pics mate! Really digging the shiny new tip and system :D You should let me know when you are going to take some happy snaps and make a mini meet up/photoshoot. Quote
Ben-89 Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 Now thats was I was thinking Matt! Every second weekend I'm free so it would be preety cool if we could organise something like this. Even if its around the Brunswick area its perfect as there are a few industrial backdrops around which are quite effective. Who else do you think would be interested? Any other locations in mind? Teddy Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 hahah dude that thing came up a treat ! Epic  Quote
Des Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Looks amazing. What are going to do about the plastic lifting from the rear bar ? Quote
Ben-89 Posted April 4, 2010 Author Report Posted April 4, 2010 Thanks for the comments guys. When I bought the car the rear bar was preety wavy in the centre, so I took it off and with a piece of hard wood on the inside of the bar and a sledge hammer I got back most of the original shape. But still the top part was slightly higher. So with a bit of my own weight and some else securing the rear bar I jumped up and down on it until I got as best as I could. Finding a straight rear bar let alone a front one isnt easy, so what I've done will suffice for now until a nice one pops up. As this photo is a clear zoom in of the rear it looks a little more obvious, but in person its not that bad. Quote

I'm easy. As long as you give me some decent notice i should be able to organise both of mine there (if not the blue one is more original looking). Quote
Ben-89 Posted April 6, 2010 Author Report Posted April 6, 2010 Brief update, the AE71's fuel tank, diff/axle assembly, cross member, engine splash tray and lower control arms etc,etc have been given a lush coat of gloss black. Photos to follow. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Saw both of ben's machines today. Everyone at work especially loved 'the overrated ke70.' Thanks for coming around mate it was good to see the Ae71 for the first time  Quote

Thanks for coming around mate it was good to see the Ae71 for the first time :P No worries Matt, it makes it all worth while showing these cars to people who people who appreciate them. Actually, before taking the ke out I gave it its usual wipe over with a large bucket filled with luke warm water and a chamois and the colour of the water was dark by the time I finished. Its hard to belive how dusty a car can get in a closed environment. Maybe I should put it in a carcoon with mothballs :fuzz: It will be cool when a group of us guys meet up for photos and maybe lunch somewhere :y: Here is a photo of my Grandma and the two machines - It made her day. Quote
Bamboo Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 The photo is true granny spec. Dude organise it through regional and we'll have a mini run. I put it out there in Jan and 6 rollas turned up!! OEM is good! Quote
