TC16 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 (edited) I picked up this baby for $1200. its got great torque @4000rpm - 7500rpm but it needs something done to it so I can take off with the power it has at the higher revs. I just replaced the lhf hud and it handles like a dream now, its also just had a clutch in the last year, the gearbox doesnt go into 2nd if I'm doing over 50kph for some reason and its annoying because it does over 90kph in 2nd before its redlines anyone have a suggestion? I'm just a newb when it comes to talking about cars but I'm trying to learn. I pulled the motor apart and cleaned it since I took these, I also got pulled over by the department of transport and they gave it a green ticket, which is good apparantly because they let me go Edited March 10, 2009 by TC16 Quote
TC16 Posted March 6, 2009 Author Report Posted March 6, 2009 The engine really is much cleaner than that now, I didnt realise how much better it is now until I saw those pics lol Quote
MYSTIK[RL] Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 the 4age's have never had great torquue down low, and for the matter not a great deal up top either, hence the torqueless wonder monika they have, but still a great motor and they sound porn when on song above 5000rpm  even more so with ITB's but anyways nice score for the price, I'm not so keen on the ae82's but everyone has their preference. have you got any plans for mods? Pieman Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 (edited) Most corollas with c52 gearboxes have dramas in second after a few years of (ab)use . Yours sounds pretty bad. If can obtain one from the wreckers or ebay, thats come out of an ae101 generation with a 7afe, it would probably be cheaper then getting yours rebuilt. Most ones bolted to 4ages would have copped a flogging. Edited March 6, 2009 by Pieman Quote
Trev Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 I have plenty of spare C52's if you wanna buy one, If you want a nice amount of bottom end torque I suggest putting a supercharger on it. Quote
TC16 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Report Posted March 8, 2009 I have plenty of spare C52's if you wanna buy one, If you want a nice amount of bottom end torque I suggest putting a supercharger on it. I will be interested in a few weeks for sure mate. with the supercharger, can I just buy one and do it myself? because ive seen them go for around $350 on ebay so far all I can to do is fix the gearbox and put extractors in it, some dark tint would be nice to I would definately have a supercharger in there if I could do it cheap enough, I need that low end torque. fun car to drive though either way, typical rust around one of the rear wheel arches but ill get that done this week Quote
TC16 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Report Posted March 8, 2009 My brother bought a corsa today, its a funny little thing, the motor is facing the right way but its a front wd straight as an arrow though and it actually has Air con but gutless, maybe ill put the 4age in that lol Quote
TC16 Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 I fixed the radiator today. it seems everytime I get in it now it goes better and better, I'm worried about spending money on it now though especially after seeing how cheap a 2001 wrx goes for these days, if the 4age isnt worth spending money on then ill scrap the corolla project. doesnt seem like anyone here likes the 4age which is scary considering its a corolla forum Quote
Jason KE30 Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 You'd be surprised how many 4age fans there are on this forum. It's just that most of the time we can't afford 4age conversions, which is why we drive corolla's :D Quote

I actually regret that more than selling my Vk Edited March 9, 2009 by TC16 Quote
