ratiara Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Hi There Folks, My name's Darren from Sheidow Park south of Adelaide. I've just bought this '64 Tiara dubbed Ratiara due to it's slightly less than perfect appearance. She runs really well, interior is very good apart from the top of the back seat which has suffered from 40+ years of sun. Body appears to be super sound with no rust to be seen although the paint has a nice level of character to it. Down sides are the shagged suspension, holey exhaust, lack of brakes, a poorly repaired steering wheel and the stupid amounts of silver frost paint sprayed all over the place! Picked it up from Ararat, Victoria where it was full of rubbish and has been out in the elements and long grass for at least 6 months. Still thinking about plans, but first aim is to get her roadworthy and regoed, then it's time for fun. I will be pulling influence from the rat look VW scene as I have just sold my companion Boris (67 Rat Look Beetle) of 5 years. Thinking maybe historic rally look or vintage style 'resort car' with period signwriting etc. But my automotive mind runs at 10 million miles an hour and who knows what will pop into my head next. Definates will be a good beating with the lowering stick, white walls and period accessories. But having said this, it may be a little while until it hits the tarmac as I have a 63 Chevrolet Corvair also to get LHD rego on first and we also have my wifes 1969 BMW 2002 to keep cruising.....but will keep you all posted on what's going on. I also look to grab inspiration from the many cool rides on this forum and get advice from you dudes that actually know what you are doing with your cars, because, although I love classic cars so much, I am about as handy as a half sucked twistie under the bonnet. Anyway, here's some pics and I look forward to joining in with this forum that was recommended to me by an active member on here...Chobis. Cheers Edited February 8, 2010 by ratiara Quote
Chobis Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 BAM !!! Had a look at this car on the weekend and almost had to beg Darren to post it up for you guys to have a look at. It's deeeeead seeexy !!!! Got a few oddities about it too..... like where the front interior door lock buttons are positioned as an example. I have two tips for you mate....... !) - Go with the old skool rally look 2) - Don't leave half sucked twisties under your bonnet :D Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 this thing is overrated! And that wing mirror is awesome. Awesome score, insane jealous. And that steering wheel!!!!!! Quote
benzo Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Good to see you joined up Darren! Looks like it's cleaned up pretty well, at least from the last pics I saw of it haha This will look pretty rad, remove towbar, black out the steelies, wide whites, and your usual period extras. Resort car sounds good :D Once that's done, I'll take away haha Quote
silverra23 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 really nice.. there is a guy on www.japanesenostalgiccar.com with one of these i think.. yours looks pretty good given where you found it! Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 OMG! Don't do ANYTHING that can't be easily undone! You might be sitting on a real classic worth a fortune in 10years! Quote
ratiara Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the comments guys, she's a pretty cool little bugger. Yeah, it has come up ok just with a cleanout of the rubbish, a vacuum and a 40 minute polish. I don't plan on doing anything major to it except a lowering. As for being worth a fortune, unfortunately I think it will be a case of rarity outweighing desirability, but who knows....46 years old to 56 years old, you never can be sure. Thanks again! This is her pre polish...... Edited January 26, 2010 by ratiara Quote

67Rolla-Ken Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) She's PERFECT!!! I love it... not much needed to turn her into a real ratrod :D Just noticed the 2 cars in the background, wouldn't mind seeing some pics of those! Edited January 27, 2010 by 67Rolla-Ken Quote
ratiara Posted January 27, 2010 Author Report Posted January 27, 2010 Thanks again guys, pics of the other babies in the stable are in the non-rolla rides section. Quote
ratiara Posted February 8, 2010 Author Report Posted February 8, 2010 What do you do when you are a little bored and think your Tiara needs a contrasting roof? Go to Bunnings and get some rattle cans, that's what! Needs to be wet and dried and tidied a bit, but reckon the colour is spot on. Quote
