Felix Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Umm, I don't follow at all Evan. The proper name of the tool I was talking about is a Piston Stop. Here is a pic of a Comp Cams version: They are easy to make though. A pic to hopefully better explain how to use: And the page it came from with another explanation of how to use. Google "piston stop" if you can't work it out. Quote
Evan G Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 understanded that perfectly! thanks for the info felix Quote
78_7kRolla Posted March 2, 2010 Author Report Posted March 2, 2010 Many years ago I made up a TDC tool out of an old sparkplug like this. Makes it real easy to find exact TDC. :blinks: You turn the motor one way until the tool just makes contact with the piston, make a mark on the pulley/balancer in relation to the TDC mark on the timing cover. Then turn the motor over the opposite way until contact is made, make another mark. Between the two new marks is the precise TDC... File and liquid paper the new centerline. That's exactly what i used to find the TDC Felix. Got a couple of them at the garage of different lengths. Turns out i don't have to rebuild it anymore as after a long day of work i f%^ed up the position of one of the cam gears myself! (thus valve was bottoming out on the piston) This is all fixed now and the car has perfect valve timing now. She drives great. Hopefully some pics to come this week. Next is to do a wheel alignment and get some good feel into the brake pedal. Quote
Felix Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Good to hear you got it sorted. I installed a cam a tooth out once and only once in my early days of playing with motors. :blinks: LOL, sometimes you have to learn the hard way. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted March 2, 2010 Author Report Posted March 2, 2010 Yeh i'm pretty wrapped about not having to pull it apart. Sometimes unless you have someone else with you the only way to learn is to stuff it up! Got the car home today for the first time, so here are some pics. Also i got a new steering wheel and gearnob for it today. Just waiting on the boss kit and then i'll put some decent interior shots up. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 How do you get an engine 360* out Evan!? :blinks: I suppose you're 5'12" tall too!? :lolcry: Quote
LukeAE71 Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) i can't *showing my age* when i see those rims! Comments like that are actually quite distasteful :blinks: Choose a different word or phrase to show your excitement :lolcry: *edited by mod. Agree with above comment and hence Evan's comment has been removed. Edited March 2, 2010 by Taz_Rx Quote
78_7kRolla Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 Thanks for that Si. It made me feel uncomfortable too (hence my lack of reply). Hunting for a tasteful catch can at the moment while also not costing me an arm and a leg. This is proving difficult. Open to suggestions  Quote
colonel Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Just waiting on the boss kit Matt, I've got one here if you're keen Quote
78_7kRolla Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 Matt, I've got one here if you're keen Damn. Already waiting on it from Autobarn, just seemed easiest option as it's a 10 min drive. Thanks anyway mate. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Open to suggestions :hmm: No worries mate. Catch cans - Have a look at some of the ones thi guy has made.... http://tasrotary.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.p...asc&start=0 They sit in behind the strut towers. Not suggesting to get one of him (although I'm sure you'd be happy if you did) just for an idea on location. Oh and another suggestion - Don't buy something off ebay. Quote

Don't worry i never buy cheap crap for my cars off ebay >| UPDATE Today i got the brakes sorted out. Complete fluid flush and bleed. Also adjusted the pedal box throw. Now have perfect brake feel :hmm: Catch can and wheel alignment is up next. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted March 5, 2010 Author Report Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) **UPDATE** Car is finally on the road. Got the catch can done today. Ended up settling on a 'supershit auto' one. As i really wanted to drive it this weekend rather than taking ages to save up for an awesome one. Photos to follow tomorrow afternoon after i detail graham to my standards :P But for now here's an engine bay shot from my phone. P.S I love driving this machine! 78_7kRolla Posted March 6, 2010 Author Report Posted March 6, 2010 You're more than welcome anytime mate. Was intending on polishing and givving the interior a good once over today but this god damn downpour of rain dirtied my freshly washed car. TWICE! Maybe if we get some better weather later on in the weekend. Quote
