will your perspex floorpan drop out and cause sparks from the road when the computer reads "danger to manifold"?

glass would be a better idea, i was going to suggest that. streeter said he'd do me 1x1.2m glass sheets for the cost of the materials

I agree with nick - fibreglass all the way

Because of the price, and you cannot, work / mould glass and it not the best thing to have swinging around near the ground.

+ acrylic cracks - glass shatters.... and after that it is useless

I probably should add that "Perspex" is the same thing as "Acrylic".

Perspex is just the brand name of the major manufacturer and supplier. The product is called "Acrylic", but often mis-quoted as Perspex.

Very similar to a Ball Point Pen being called a "Biro".

This doesnt change much in relation to this discussion, but i thought i would add it so people arent mistaking Perspex and Acrylic as different products.

You could also look at plexiglass - VERY expensive but its bulletproof ! Its also the stuff they make the safety shields and stuff out of on bench grinders and safety face masks.

It is available in varying thinknesses too - from 1-2mm which is flexible to upwards of 15mm - which is bank teller window style stuff

Material has been discovered. It is HDPE. High Density Polyethelene or something like that. Basically, cutting board. Really big cutting board.

Paul P used this to plate the bottom of his rally ute that won class in ARC too. Ran it for years, he said there were big gouges in it but nothing ever went through. He thinks he was using 4.5mm, but they come anywhere from 3mm to 50mm thick. Cheap stuff too, generally about $50 for a 2x1m sheet, the cheapest quote I got was like $90 for an 8x4m sheet, most expensive quote I got was $112 for a 2x1m sheet, that's for 6mm stuff. If I feel hardworking and motivated enough and end up doing this, I'll probably use 4.5mm stuff too.

It's light, it's reasonably flexible, but tough enough to deflect rocks etc (of course if you come landing hard on it you'll be in trouble, for stuff like that use a proper sump guard like what Rob has...), it's cheap, flame retardant (it basically melts, doesn't really burn at all), perfect stuff.

Jamie: 1st quote for you, 3mm black, 2x1m, $42.25+GST. But only availble in Sydney at the moment (Brisbane store has no stock, will cost up to $30 for freight unless they're shipping something else at the same time). This is from CutToSize.

I'll call a few other places later today or tomorrow.
