Bamboo Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 LWB Vitara? It's in the price range, it'll go anywhere and it won't use a heap of fuel Quote
7shades Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 LWB Vitara? It's in the price range, it'll go anywhere and it won't use a heap of fuel You know what, they're an awesome little rig. Good call. Quote
Jason KE30 Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 I used to own an LN65 4x4 but that was rusted to hell and sluggish, just an uncomfortable drive in general. Just found this BJ73 Landcruiser which looks pretty cool. But again, looks a little uncomfortable to drive. Quote
Jason KE30 Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 Vitara might be a little too small to lug around tools though won't it? Right now I'm having a look at 4runners/surf's or Land cruiser with roof racks. All seem to be quite high kms though. Quote
SLO-030 Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Diesels will go forever. 1,000,000km+ Top Gear proved you can't kill a diesel Lux. Same would apply to a Cruiser. My uncle has a Sahara, still goes real well. 6cyl Turbo Diesel. Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Ok, with Landcruisers and Hiluxes Km's mean basically nothing, My Hilux has 475,000+Km's on the original engine and is still going strong, only thing that's gone wrong was that a bolt snapped that held the alternator in place, dead easy fix..... Basically, you need to look at the thing in person if possible, check for leaks, funny/weird noises while driving(yes I know all diesels sound kinda funny/weird), and just feel out if the one you're looking at has been thrashed out, if it's spent it's life doing the highway run, it should feel nice and tight and be happy to do you for another half a million Km's before needing any serious mechanical attention..... Happy hunting..... Quote
Jason KE30 Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 I'm starting to lean towards an early 90's Hilux Surf. They would be ideal for work and fun for weekends. There's plenty out there in my price range, even if I have to go interstate to get it, I would for the right one. Was looking at insurance on the internet for one, and it's not cheap, but that's what you get for full comprehensive. Pretty much the computer told me it would cost $1900 a year, but I think that if I was to go there in person I might get a better deal. What do you guys reckon? Quote
Bamboo Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I use shannons on the trooper. Agreed value. Mine is nowhere near that much. But it depends on how old you are!! Quote
Jason KE30 Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 That is very true, I don't think I'll ever get a good price as I'm only turning 18 next month. Hence why I'm treating myself to a nice vehicle as a birthday present to myself :hmm:. That and going skydiving next saturday :y:. Quote
SLO-030 Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Shannons wont do anyone under 21 i think. or possibly 25. Quote
Jason KE30 Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 Yes I've heard that also. I'll probably stick with the insurance company that my whole family is already with, should be able to get myself a good deal that way. Wait and see. Quote
Redwarf Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Get a Land Rover Defender. Seriously, they are THE most uncomfortable and unegonomic vehicle I've ever driven. They have kidney belts that fall from the roof when you hit a big enough bump. Quote

JiP Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Your suggestion of Liberty would get you a fair amount of space with the seats folded down. Going past my initial hiccups it isn't a bad car. Quote
