Update time...

The idle mixture screws arrived from Rodger in Canberra after many apologies. We put those in and she fired up with very little effort.

I decided while it was on the hoist I should put my RT132 front struts in for the brake upgrade, along with some koni inserts. Did all that, along with a pair of King Low springs (realised it had King standards in it when it was up on the hoist at some point).

Then I thought I just needed to bleed the brakes and I was off! Sadly it didn't quite work like that, as one of the brake lines was leaking badly at the master cylinder I had put in (MA70 Supra 1" bore MC) So after some mucking around I managed to strip the thread completely.. grrrr. Anyways, the boys here machined the hole up to take a new adaptor, and then we put a screw on fitting on the end of the line. Finally it went all back together, and bled up to give me a great pedal.

Dropped it on the ground and rolled it off the hoist and took it for a couple of laps of the business park. It stops well... goes well... revs so easily its silly!

So to a couple of photos:

Now all I have left is to put the console back together... fit the badges... fit an exhaust (currently a straight pipe off the headers!) and that is about it... then she will be ready for a summer cruise! Very exciting :)

I love the clear indicators next to the headlights in these, i think they suit these cars better than the gay orange ones do

Good luck with it and i bet ya can't wait till it's on the road, they get so many looks and people saying wow thats cool, mine did anyways and it was a shitbox compared to yours :P

We have a winner! I have been having issues getting the old girl to run properly. Stalling at lights, dropping off to just two cylinders, it was starting to shit me to tears.

Anyways I put in new needles and seats, and that fixed it... for 5 minutes... then it returned to her old ways.

Then Saturday week ago I noticed the fuel filter had changed colour inside to a muddy murky brown colour. When I whipped it off it was full of muddy rusty fuel, and I realised my problem was likely to be my fuel tank. So I wrestled the tank out and sure enough it was rusty and full of sand and corrosion. Not pretty.

Off it went to the radiator place and got dipped in their tanks to clean it out. Took it home again and last Saturday I had to install it, determined I wasn't going to miss Hanging Rock for another year!

So fuel tank went in. Got the fuel lines connected up with much swearing and grunting. Put 15L of fuel in, and then discovered about 3L of said fuel sitting in the wheel well.

Turns out the seal around the fuel filler connection in the tank was shite. So tank came out again. Found something that would seal it. Tank went in, and fuel stayed in this time. Happy days!

I cleaned out all the fuel lines as best I could, and ran a wire through the fuel pick up to get all the crap out of that too. Banjos were sludged up good so thanks for that tip Rodger! Cleaned the bowls out as best I could.

Then with a new fuel filter on board I fired her up, played with the mixtures a little and took her for a test run. Everything was good! No stalling, no missing, just driving. Happy days!!

So she got her first wash in 18 months and then I went and filled the tank to the brim. Still no leaks!

Early Sunday morning I fired her up.. and with no dramas drove to Hanging Rock, and back again. Success!!

Thanks Rodger (Solex guru) for all your help and perseverance when clearly my fuel tank was a major player in our issues. Your patience is much appreciated.

All the hose clamps need replacing with ones that arent as big.

The cam cover needs to be painted crinkle red

Hoses need detailing

Hose coming out of the cam cover actually needs to go some where, and the charcoal canister needs to be hooked up or something too.

And I need to get the dizzy rebuilt and electronicified.

Damn project cars are never finished are they :D

Ages since I posted in here huh...

I am madly trying to get the old girl ready for Toyotafest and the drive to Sydney and back. We are heading along the coast road home over a few days, so I want to make sure its reliable so the lovely other half doesn't get grumpy as we sit stranded some where lol.

Recently fitted a Scorcher electronic dizzy from Performance Ignition Services. $440 with a coil and it was pretty much plug and play. Timing is close but I reckon some dyno time would make it closer. This means I have a 22r dizzy and ignitor to sell at some point.

I spent a few hours cleaning out the boot today... it had this black tar like stuff all over the wheel well applied as rust preventer (which worked a treat). When I spilled all the fuel re-doing my fuel tank it went manky, so I finally got around to cleaning it completely off. Shit job I tells ya. Turns out fuel was the best thing to get rid of it, after using three cans of degreaser and some wurth brake cleaner.

Have also fiddled with lots of little things that I have always been "gunna" finish and its close to being ready.

It gets inspected for club rego on Tuesday evening, and hopefully I will also fix the oil leak coming out of the timing chain tensioner that is making a mess of my engine bay.

Now dear readers, does anyone have a stock 14inch spare wheel/tyre I could buy so that I don't get stuck on the side of the road on the way to Sydney?

What about a factory jack handle? Both of mine seem to have gone awol some how.

Here is a picture from a recent social meet TCCAV had, complete with its "jap spec" show plates I bought from sleeka spares

I've got an mx32 rim and hard tyre with good "spare" tread. Yours if you want it.

The kanji on your rego plate is Fukuoka (courtesy of Mrs Bamboo)

Ahhh took me a while to find what you were saying Mr Bamboo.. its hidden in the quote

I am pretty sure I don't say Fukuoka the right way :)

Roscos has brought me a spare, and Dave has a collection of jack handles I can raid, so thanks every one :)

Oil leak fixed from the tensioner I think... so one more thing done.

Want to try and get the timing a little better for dyno day on Sunday

Also want to try and fit an amp and some speakers so i can listen to music on the way up. Have the mini amp on its way from ebay, so hoping it all arrives on time!

Work Log Stardate 20110924

Plan A worked...

I started off with this - a $30 (delivered) 12 volt/5 amp mini amplifier from ebay that has 2 speaker channels, and a RCA input.

IMG_1719.JPG

Then I went to Jaycar and bought a lead that has RCA connections one end, and a 3.5mm ipod/headphone plug on the other

IMG_1721.JPG

Mounted some 6.5" Clarion 2 way speakers on the back parcel shelf (why the fark didn't I do this when I was putting the car together.. had to remove half the interior to do the freaking job!!)

IMG_1724.JPG

Mounted the amp in the boot using trusty 3m dual lock.. ran wires... and hooked it all up. My electrical skills are shite so I have purposely not included the dodgy crimped connections in these shots!!

IMG_1725.JPG

Also ran the RCA lead through the rear firewall, down under the rear seat, under the carpet and popped it out at the centre console. This is where you sit your trusty ipod and plug it in to the cable.

IMG_1723.JPG

If you have done it all right you will now have music to listen to on those rare occasions when you don't want to listen to the joyous sounds of an 18RG humming along.

Clearly its not going to win a sound off competition, but it suits my needs, was relatively cheap and easy to do, and can easily be ripped out and done by a professional later who is better at keeping the smoke inside the wires :)

Oh and importantly, you can tuck the RCA lead under the centre console, and the car looks like nice and original with its standard 70's AM/FM radio still in place, and no chopping up rare glove box inners to fit a hidden head unit.
