19914afc Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) Hey this is my first RWD corolla, I was looking for a while for a good KE but there where none without rust that where cheap so I found this one down near Byron bay. Name: Jake Car: 1980 TE72/T-18 Motor & Driveline: Stock 3T-C has extractors with 2" back one high flow muffler, and 38/38 synchronized weber. Suspension & Brakes: Stock suspension apart from cut springs :lolcry: Stock brakes with brand new rotors and pads (only cost just under $70 for brand new rotors and pads) Has a T series Diff too :blinks: Also has AJPS braided brake lines. Wheels & Tyres: 13"x5.5" on the front with 175/75R13 and 13"x6" on the rear with 185/70R13 Interior: Stock, except for painted door trims. Body: No rust :blinks: and has had a shed respray (all the prep work and rust removal was done properly though ive seen all the pictures of it in the panel shop) Other: Has Clarion headunit with kenwood 6x9s and clarion sub and amp. Has Autotechnica steering wheel. That is how it all started oh the joy, once what was a clean..ish T18 it got flogged it got abused it got some love in the form of parts (not really body wise haha) So yes that is how it started with alllll of that stuff is pretty much how I got it, then I got some supercheap paint and painted the black sills looked alright, tryed to skid it but ran up a gutter and ʞ©$ɟed a new tyre haha, then decided to buy some new wider wheels, they would have been overrated... if I had of been a man and kept them :( they where some delicious 14" SSRs one beast of a pair of 14x7.5 -14 longchamps and a lovely super clean pair of MK2's 14x8 0 well the champs didn't fit on the front so I decided to be gay and sell them AND the mk2's well then I bought some longchamp ripoffs in 15x8 0 which still didn't fit and decided to then flare the front guards for some reason well kept them for a while. Then decided to get some extractors and an exhaust, sounded alright I suppose, then thought about some webbers so bought swapped some dellortos for some wheels and then the manifold I bought was pretty much stuffed sooo sold them and bought a 38/38 webber and port matched the manifold to the head. So one night I decided to got for a run up nebo then coming down cooked the front brakes because they decided they did not want to live anymore and seized so then bought some coilovers and brakes from a MA61 supra and longer LCAs well the right coilover had been bent in japan for some sort of race class so gave them back and got some AE86 stuff up front and rear with JDM!!! brakes I know right! well they have been awesome. Then I got sick of spinning one wheel so I bought a TRD 2 way LSD with 4.778 gears and decided was way to tall ratio for me so swapped them plus some monies for me :) for some 4.3's which where a bit better, then got some different wheels (again!) these where my favorite wheels my 13" SSR mk2s in 13x8 all round and 0 and negative 13 offset which sat great. Then left it how it was for quite a while and went to QR and Archy to practice some drifting went pretty good for the amount of power it had only 80HP by the way, but I think some of those horses escaped from that mighty engine called a 3T haha. But in all seriousness I had fun but got tired of not being able to hold it out with such little power, even when I entered matsuiri got enough of a run up for touch over 100km/h handbrake entrys into the dipper and the end of the straight was quite hairy at those speeds haha. well these would have been perfect still for the new heart that would be replacing the 3T (more on that later) but decided i would need bigger brakes so which brings us to recent times when I just bought a set of 14" SSR fins in 7 with neg 5 and 7.5 with neg 15 should be good also swapped my JDM brakes for an RX7 setup with the AJPS caliper brackets so should be perfect with the 14's. And that brings us onto the new engine those of you who don't know yet I have bought a Lexus/Toyota LS400/Celsior for the engine, "which is what" you say? Well let me tell you its a 4L quad cam 190kw and 340 or NM torque which should be plenty for the (fingers crossed) 900kg car which will be mated to a custom flywheel with either a nascar or v8 supercar clutch and a richmond 5 spd close ratio 1:1 5th gear box, driving the rear wheels (I hate to use it but..) R31 diff shortened to suit with either full spool or LSD not sure which yet. So far with the Lexus I have been busy pulling off parts to sell so I can get some money back, hopefully should be a free engine! :) But the engine and loom are now out as of today the 29/12 Now have to take off some panels for other people and then someone else wants the rest of the shell as well so could possibly make some money from wreaking out the car and that is selling parts pretty dam cheap too, now I see why wreckers do it but don't see why they charge so much. The T18 is close to being striped to its last sign of life no interior is left only sound deadening on firewall to go, everything is nearly out of the engine bay and ready to rip the old one out, just have to pull out glass get all the old paint off then start stripping even more everything, little metal brackets that aren't needed will be cut off. Then time for the full cage to go in :) So thats the life of my T18 so far and hope to have lots of pictures soon. Thanks all of you for reading!! Edited December 29, 2011 by 19914afc Quote
xmoht Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Front end is different, but I think you can replace the entire front end off a KE70. So you couldn't just switch the lights. Quote
white_sandshoe Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Front end is Different... The bonnet is the same, but the quarter panels are very different... The T18 ones are longer in the back as the door positioning is different. Quote

bAKER Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Great Find mate, looks good. What are your plans other than the stuff you mentioned? just gonna be a daily cruiser? Quote
19914afc Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 Ye, just a daily, but with the new suspension and brakes I will be putting in and might take it to some skid pans. Then mabey if I save up enough money ill rebuild the spare engine I will be buying and bore it to 88mm pistons, bigger valves, the cam I will be putting in, and if it has enough power ill try taking it to a track and sliding it :blinks: Quote
rian Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 "same with the tail lights cause I wouldn't mind getting some new ones" - KE70 tail lights don't fit, they're too wide from memory. This is my friends old car, good to see you've got some nice plans for it. Quote

Ah, thanks. ye, tell him I got it registered easy too. its a nice car though, where you his mate who did the paint? Would also love to get some of these wheels when I get enough money - http://www.xxrwheels.com/sportmax_501.shtml 15x7 for the front and 15x8 for the rear the red ones I think would look alright otherwise id probably just get the gunmetal ones. will need to get bigger wheels anyway when I finish the coilovers/brakes cause 15's will just fit over the front brakes. 19914afc Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 Also is anyone good at photo chopping? if anyone is would you be able to put a 3" chrome dump pipe and another with a 3" single drift pipe out the side. Thanks :blinks: Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Your 3tc would appreciate it a lot more if you fed it with 2x weber's/dell's/solex's instead of just one. :blinks: Quote
white_sandshoe Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 I'll be fitting KE70 lights to my T18 in a few weeks, so I'll do a bit of a conversion thread with lotsa pics... The globe holders are too wide to fit in the original hole so need to widen it by about half an inch each side, and re-drill the bolt holes as none of them line up... Other than that, it's a sweet looking ride. I like the blackouts around the bottom... Been thinking along the same lines, but now that I've seen it, I think it's a definate 'to-do' Quote

Ill probably end up buying twin carbs on a manifold anyway cause no one wants to sell just 1 sidedraft. coilover legs are for sale now, not the brake caliper adapters though. rian Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 (edited) Yeah I'll let him know. I didn't do the paint but I was there when it got done. Those wheels would be twice as cool if they weren't sportmax, but they'd still look heaps gnarly Edited June 1, 2010 by rianwest Quote
