7shades Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 Reminds me of a car which isn't light and powered by a rev happy 4 cyl. This thing is competition for the Zed. Don't want. There are rumours of a smaller FR coupe in the works though... Quote
7shades Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) This is the new Supra. ( I reckon ) This is why they re-applied to extend copyright on the name. I mean look at it... All the signature design elements are there. Specfically the side windows and front gaurds. It reeks of JZA80. And its effing huge. The smaller FR coupe will be the 'new ae86' Edited March 1, 2011 by 7shades Quote
BUZ440 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 seems about right, i just spoke with a toyota sales manager and the silly car will be a convertible looks like a 370Z with a porsche rear end, the colour don't do it any justice in that pic IMO Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 You're right- black is very hard to define a shape in. It certainly doesn't look like a lightweight car that you can sit up in and see all four corners easily, something important in placing a wheel exactly where you want it. Quote
Nostalgia Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Wasn't the 'new ae86' meant to be about 20g USD or something? Toyota is entering an untapped market, the only new small, rwd cars that are out and affordable are.. Well, there are none I don't think! Maybe a Great Wall ute.. Will be interesting to see what the other big names (apart from subaru) will have to offer the young, cashed-up P-plater market! Quote
7shades Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 The original concept was supposed to be a modern re-incarnation of the AE86. Lightweight, two doors, rear drive. Then the FHI buy-in happened, then the target demographic shifted. So now we have this thing, which I reckon is no longer anything like what the original concept was supposed to be, and instead is aimed squarely at the 370Z. Which is also why I believe they trademarked 'FR-S', because the final production car won't be anything like an 86, so won't be referenced in its name. Quote
7shades Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 See... This here is what I'm waiting for. http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2011/01/2011-tokyo-auto-salon-tes-concept-t-sports-previews-baby-ft-86.html Granted, its f*cking ugly. But, this one is just a concept... And it proves they can actually build something on the platform. Its rwd, it's 900kg and has a normal inline 4 instead of that boxer shite. Rumour mill is saying there will be a hardtop and 'vert. Direct competitor to the MX-5. I hope. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Very unhappy... I wanted the first FT86!! :( Quote
Nostalgia Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Though I like the concept, that thing looks rancid. It reminds me of the Ford Ka's styling - a fail. Quote
JiP Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 The ass end of that looks very much like the final Celica Quote
