Hey guys just after a quick answer.

 

Dismantled a set of Ke25 struts I have but got stuck when trying to remove the gland nut, looks like I may need a special tool?

 

It says in my workshop manual I need a ring nut wrench, have no idea what that looks like.

 

I thought the gland nut would be like later corollas where u can use a wrench but its not so I'm stuck lol

I thought everyone had one of these in their toolbox......... I don't. but might give you an idea.

 

 

Edit: Before you lash out and buy it (it's on yahoo at the moment), I am unsure if this one is the correct size for a KE2x. Is supposedly the right one for a TE27.

I just used a screw driver and a hammer :ninja:

+1^^^^^ works a treat aswell. or put the nut in the vice and turn the strut

Big set of multigrips the only way to roll.

Punch and hammer or nut in vice and hit the stub axle with a soft faced hammer.

I paid the expert at Southside Suspension...

hmmm not sure how could I use monkey grips or put the nut in a vice refer to picture lol.

 

here is what I'm working with, tried the hammer and screwdriver but started to damage it so thought wasnt a good idea...

Looks like you need to use a long punch.

The best way for oem big nut would be a big set of multigrips +1

Trade tools has a good set for about $15

 

Theres special sized pin spanners for those aftermarket recessed types ones

if you can find them and if they are cheap enough... Shock manufacturers

or suspension stores might have them.

 

The best way i have found so far for the average person is a big

adjustable pin spanner used to change discs in an angle grinder because

you can keep it square in the recesses and all the force turns it, as

opposed to driving it on the angle using a punch because it really

mangles it up. Cost is around $10

I tried the punch and hammer trick and as tally stated it damages the top of the screw nut. Take it to a expert to loosen it off or make a tool to fit into the recessed bits. I'm gonna make a tool soon and it it works I'm happy to lend it out , to whoever needs it .

Would it be possible to find a nut that fits the thread then get some grips on the nut?? (double nut if you need to stop it moving on the thread)

 

Edit: I should add that I have no idea which bits you're trying to get out of where... I've never messed with suspension :lol:

Here you go, the angle grinder pin spanners, come in fixed sizes and an adjustable one.

Just buy one that suits, ie will fit as some may be too small or some might need a

touch of grinding near the pins to go around the shaft of the shock.

 

Supercheap has the adjustable one for $8.
