October 6, 201115 yr comment_558310 ive heard it needs to be around 13 14 volts but mynes 12.10 is this normal? also factoring in that my battery is in the boot. any one got the answer? thanks Report
October 6, 201115 yr comment_558311 12.1v is your battery voltage, so yes, the battery is not charging.. Report
October 6, 201115 yr comment_558313 Dodgey reg? I have/had13.8(battery shop believe that's low) with my KE-70/Holden statesman alt on my 5kze which I'll use again with the 5kte setup. I have the battery in the boot too. What size cable are you using? Stu. Report
October 6, 201115 yr comment_558318 ideally it should regulate at around 14.3v but that is all dependant on lots of other factors.. Report
October 6, 201115 yr Author comment_558321 ive got the charge light wire from the plug on the back of the alternator hooked up to a random 12v ignition source because i couldnt find where to connect it to the light itself could that be a problem??. Report
October 6, 201115 yr comment_558327 it probably would, yes, put it back to standard.. D+ on the back of the alternator.. Report
October 6, 201115 yr comment_558351 Yeah, as said 13.8V-14.2V is the normal, and ideal charging voltage. "it probably would, yes, put it back to standard.. D+ on the back of the alternator.." And this too. Report
October 6, 201115 yr comment_558353 You do have a chance to set it all on fire..... Don't pick the wrong wire! You'd be better to get an auto electrician to look at it, or get the 4AGE AND the KE70 wiring diagrams and look at them carefully. Report
October 6, 201115 yr Author comment_558436 Ive been looking up info and a guy has hooked the charge light wire from the alternator to the positive terminal on the coil as this is an ignition switched source. Does this sound dodgy to anyone? Report
October 7, 201115 yr comment_558562 its fine if you put a diode in-line with the wire to D+ otherwise when the alternator is still spinning making voltage on D+ the car will try to run on when you turn it off.. Report
October 8, 201115 yr comment_558736 isnt a battery 12.66V? Approximately, yes. The alternator puts out a higher voltage though to charge the battery, usually in the 14V range. Report
October 10, 201115 yr comment_559368 4age alternator specs are as followed: Rated output: 12V 60A Rotor Coil Resistance: 2.8 - 3.0 Ω Slip Ring Diameter: STD - 14.2 ~ 14.4 mm Limit - 12.8 mm Brush Exposed Length: STD - 10.5 mm Limit - 1.5 mm Regulating Voltage: 13.5 - 15.1 V source: Toyota A series blue book.
