ancullen Posted November 23, 2006 Author Report Posted November 23, 2006 Wouldn't have a clue. I don't think that 0.5mm is going to make that much of a difference though. Quote
ancullen Posted November 25, 2006 Author Report Posted November 25, 2006 COMING SOON: 6x reconditioned 440cc 7M-GTE injectors. I paid $256, Toyota want over $2,100 for brand new ones. :jamie: Quote
ancullen Posted December 1, 2006 Author Report Posted December 1, 2006 Not much is happening with the car at the moment as I'm still paying back money I borrowed for the dyno tuning. I also still have to go back to the workshop that did the work and buy two new coil packs, or at least pay for the one they put in my car... Â Once I've done that, I plan on booking the car in to get the rear end lowered. There's also a strong chance that the car will be getting painted soon, as I might be doing a deal with the husband/partner of one of my employees. If that deal goes through, I'll have to buy some wheelarch flares and a bobtail, as I may as well get it done properly all at once. Â It was a bit of a mistake buying the injectors, but they were cheap, and they don't come up that often at that sort of price. I won't use them for ages. In fact, I'll probably slowly build up a new, bigport head over the next 12-18 months and then just do a head swap and get some new inatake piping made up. The car will remain supercharged through this phase, but with any luck, will jump up to anywhere between 120-150kW at the wheels. I realise this is a high aim, but with the mods I'm planning, I don't feel that it's unreasonable. Quote
ancullen Posted December 5, 2006 Author Report Posted December 5, 2006 Just got my 440cc 7M-GTE injectors in the mail today, with flow test chart. Not bad for an eBay job! Quote
ancullen Posted December 11, 2006 Author Report Posted December 11, 2006 As many of you know, I've participated in the Rejex Rally for the last six years. And Alisson and I have won the last two events, and came second in the event before those two (in 2004). It now appears that next year (2007), the event will be split away from the current club that provides insurance for it, and will become a CAMS event. This has some down sides, but an upside is that it appears it will become part of a six event motorkhana championship to be held throughout the year. Â Now as Ally and I have taken the Starlet on the last three Rejex's, and have won the last two in it, I feel that we should keep taking it to give other competitors the chance to beat it fair and square. So I plan on using the Starlet for this upcoming championship. However, I want to win the championship, and to do this, I feel that the Starlet may need a little tweaking to help do this. What's this got to do with my Corolla? Well, it means that I may have to stop spending quite as much on the Corolla for the time being so as to buy some parts for the Starlet. I haven't completely decided that this will be the case (as I only found out about the motorkhana championship on Saturday), but it's something I'm considering. Of course, I may decide that I want to try and win with the Starlet as it is, and keep spending money on the Corolla. But I just wanted to warn everyone, just in case. Â I'm considering getting for the Starlet, a lightweight flyweight flywheel, coilovers, extractors & exhaust, and maybe a cold air intake (for induction noise). I'm certain they'd help the car's handling and accleration, which is all that's really important for motorkhana. The exhaust and intake isn't necessary, but they sound cool Of course, they'd all set me back about $2,500, so we'll see what happens. Â Of course, $2,500 spent on the Corolla could go on a bigport head, cams, head gasket, valves, valve springs, 1SZ-FE valve buckets, valve retainers, and some head work, engine assembly and dynoing. And I could probably get the rear end lowered as well for that much. Â As stated, I haven't decided which way I'll go, but the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards spending the money on the Corolla. I really do want people to have a fair chance to beat the Starlet on the Rejex, as once the Starlet's been beaten, I'll take the Corolla for the hell of it, then return with a beefed-up Starlet to try and reclaim the crown in a couple of years. ancullen Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 Well, I'm finally out of debt again - ready to get myself back into debt. I owe some money to Hi Tech Tuning, but once I've paid that off and got some money built up again, I'll be booking the Corolla in to get the rear lowered. Haven't got nearly as much done on the car as I wanted to, but I haven't had any funds to work with. I'm sure it will all start coming together again soonish. Â Been thinking about the Starlet, and have decided to keep it stock for the time being. Need to wait and see what happens with my job, as I'm looking for a new job at the moment. Obviously that could have a strong effect on my projects. Quote
ancullen Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 No updates in yonks. Nothing big to report at the moment - I STILL haven't worked on the car in ages, not that there's much essential stuff that needs doing, mainly just the intercooler piping needs some changes. I have now purchased two bigport heads from Queensland. The better of the two will be ported and polished on a flow bench while still down there, as no one in the NT has a flow bench (WTF!?!). However, this will take quite a while, and I'll also have to buy my big valves and get the head machined for those at the same time. I'll then need to purchase my cams, cam gears, valve springs, head gasket, and 1SZ-FE bucket shims before the head can be put on the engine, so I'm probably looking at twelve months before this happens. I will probably also need to look into changing the intake setup at the same time, so I'm trying to work out how I'll change it (eg. quad throttles or a bigport intake manifold). Â In other news, I picked up a Mitsubishi Starion master cylinder today, along with a Sprinter brake booster. The master cylinder will be good as it's got a pretty much new looking reservoir on it, and my current KE55 one is cracking badly. Not bad for $50, when they're apparently $500 new from Repco. Quote
Teddy Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 1SZ-FE - mmmm thats intresting. can't say i know what they are lol.... what are they in ? Â 1FZ-FE possibly typo? Â Sounds like its going to be even more like cut snake now :jamie: ;) !! Quote
Jason Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 should of got a skyline/silva brake master Quote
Trev Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 1SZ-FE - mmmm thats intresting. can't say i know what they are lol.... what are they in ? 1FZ-FE possibly typo?  Sounds like its going to be even more like cut snake now :jamie: ;) !!  There is a 1S (not 1SZ), It a 1832cc inline 4, Not sure on the exact car it was used on but the S series was used in: Celica FWD/4WD, MR2 RWD, Carina FWD, Camry. ancullen Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 (edited) Firstly there is a 1SZ-FE. It's the 1.0L 4-cylinder motor from the Japanese market Yaris. I first heard about this conversion on Club4AG (here). Â Nick - let me know what parts you have for sale when they're on the market as I may be keen. Â Teddy - cut snake is definitely appropriate. I want to do a timed drag run with the current setup before I start modifying the engine. I'd be hoping for low 15's or below. Â Jason - I'd only ever heard of people using the Pajero or Hilux master cylinder. Plus this one came up pretty cheap. Â Trev - I know that there is a 1S, but there is also a 1SZ-FE, which is obviously a completely different series of motor. I think the 1S replaced the Holden Starfire Four in the Corona, but I'm not certain. Edited January 20, 2007 by ancullen Quote
Trev Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Ha just relooked at my engine listings and it was the 3rd 1 down, Went straight past it. Quote
ancullen Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 Oops. That's why I've memorised all Toyota engine specs. Well, not quite. I've heard there's this pretty good 1.6 litre motor. A 4A-something. :jamie: Quote
ancullen Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 Found out today that not only is there to be a motorkhana championship this year, but there will also be a lapsprint championship. This will mean that each race will have fifty points available, and the goal is to set yourself a time before you race, and get as close to that time as possible. Each racer will start with fifty points, and for something like every 0.1 of a second you're over that time, you lose two points, and every 0.1 of a second you're under that time, you lose five points. So it will mean everyone has a chance to be competitive. The only thing is that the cars will need to be reliable, which the Corolla isn't at the moment. Also, to enter you need a Dorian timing device, which apparently cost $440. I may be looking into trying to get some sponsorship, but I'm considering all options at the moment. Quote
