Eoo (Expressions Of Opinion) Fastest Ke20 Engine Conversion?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

building a ke20 for street sprints/track days.

wondering what peoples opinions are regarding which would be the best engine to convert to. I want it to handle as well, so weight and distribution will be important,

any brand.. holden, nissan, jeep lol.. i don't care as long as it fits in ok.

preferably keep the engine to a budget of say $2k. either rebuilt, or jap import etc.

5 speed box preferred.

some ideas already:

4agte, sr20det, ijz, commodore v6, 253.

    oh what a nissan feeling!

I could convert a bush basher rolla to sr20det for 2k.   It would have standard brakes, diff, everything.   Cut and shut unbalanced tailshaft.   Gravity fed surge tank.   At the end of the day

only 180hp.... and you have added around 150kg over the alternatives such as a 4age, 3sge, etc.   Power to weight says fail.

Nothing just fits in unfortunately... But I'd say a hot 4k is

possible for about 2 grand and have fun in that for a while.

nah should p1ss it in for $2k!!

Didnt you know engine conversions are just cost of engine + tank of fuel????

Worried about Weight distribution? LOL.

A Gen3 Alloy v8 weights less than a cast 4k

Go figure

lol wont get far with 2,000..

maybe a new gearbox tunnel, custom mounts...

i may have misunderstood what he said but i was under the impression that he meant 2k for the cost of the engine alone, not the whole conversion?

do correct me if I'm wrong!

So... $2k for the motor you reckon? and a budget of at least $15k for the car...

Start adding up a full rebuilt and race prep of that $2k motor, a gearbox conversion & a rebuild of that, a diff with an LSD and a rebuild of that... All this is 20year old knackered shit or older.

Then start on the suspension, which should be a bit better than a Corona front conversion and 3" lowering blocks, some decent brakes and the obligatory balance system and you can see that $15k vanish.

Just hot up a 5K and drive the wheels of it until you have everything else done and it will blitz 2L cars with its handling. Then put a 4AGE in it. All those motors you mentioned will be too much for those Roman-era cart springs you have without some serious money spent on the rear end.

Every successful race car's story.. build the car first, build the motor last!

Oh- and go grab one of those close-ratio K40 race boxes the guy overseas was selling! Move NOW!

Just hot up a 5K

:lolcry:

If I had a $1 for every "5k help" thread on this forum, my ke20 would be on the road.....

very mild 5k would be around the $1500 mark..

Suzuki G13b twin cam (swift gti) or G16a / b (vitara / baleno) or M15a vvt twin cam (swift / apv)

The gearbox from the serria can be used on the g13 and g16.

M15a use the box from the apv.

But the ratios in the boxes are the same and their pretty crappy for speed. It'd be better getting a custom bellhousing and using the t50 box.

Corona front struts. Nothing wrong with the cart spring suspension just some research on making them work or if you feel the need to throw money at the back end then a 5-link (i wouldn't even bother with IRS)
