ke70dave Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 And its a corolla! tonight i bought the wife to be a 2001 Corolla hatch. the one with the weird bubble taillights. stock as a rock, dark blue! (woot blue corolla again!) i think we did alright for 4800 with just over 6 months rego. has an oem 6 stacker c player up on the dash, but it seems to be playing up. might pull it appart and see what its doing, or ill just throw in a cheapy head deck. Got the 1.8L 7afe. 5spd. punchy engine, havent really given it the beans yet, this weekend;) 153kms, I'm the 3rd owner, pretty clean looking, REALLLLYY nice to drive, surprisingly how planted it feels on the road. fail wheel drive, but its just a daily drive for katrina, and something nice to drive on weekends to give the poor subi a break. unfortunately most of my photos i took tonight turned out aweful, ill try get some tomorrow! interiour is reasonably good for the cheap car it is, its a lightish grey on the doors, and a darkish dash i think, has a dash mat! as for mods, at this stage not on the cards, a 20V would be nice! might do some subtle intake/exhaust at some stage. at this stage its so nice to drive i think we'll just leave it as it is! Trev Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Was this the AE112 that was on eBay? Atleast is has the good FE intake on it. Quote
BUZ440 Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Proud man to say wife to be, Fitting to have a corolla back in the mix Big question, mods? Haha Quote
7shades Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 I had one, AE112R Conquest in the same blue. Nicest of the AE's to drive in my humblest of opinions... Better build quality/materials too, other than some sections of the interior plastic which tend to go crumbly for some reason.... Like the door sill trims and seat mechanism covers. Fixed mine up with a heat gun and a lick o' vinyl paint. Keep the paint properly sealed, All Toyotas of this vintage have issues with the clearcoat oxidising. Quote
ke70dave Posted July 19, 2012 Author Report Posted July 19, 2012 That's pretty much exactly the same as mine!! We got no spoiler, but did get roof racks and a tow ball. Any suggestions on paint sealing products? Quote
irokin Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 I really love this model of Corolla, easily my favorite of all the FWDs. I will own one sooner or later. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Yeah they look good with a subtle kit and some nice rims. Quote
snot35 Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Got one of these too. I think I want to find it dull (it's a white corolla for god's sake) but it's actually brutally efficient at doing everything. You can cram heaps of crap into it no worries, the 7AFE has a fair bit of go. Not peaky, just flat torque the whole way up. I spoke to many mechanics before buying it and one had one as a personal car. He'd easily cracked 200K with scheduled services and all he'd done was a front pad change. I live in the hills and it almost loves the twisties too, just a shame the wife doesn't :D Quote
7shades Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 I did some work on a really, REALLY abused example recently. One of the 'brochure delivery' hacks at my old man's business. This thing is punished mercilessly by all manner of hopeless female pilots, touch parked, filled with hundreds of KG of shiny literature, and generally just flogged. Currently has 460k on the odo and ticks along fine, blows no smoke, grinds no gears. Only ever had regular servicing, one clutch (100k ago) a pair of cv's, and the usual wear items like pads and rotors. All the girls whinge about it, saying it should be upgraded... Old man says "Fine... I'll replace it when the aircon dies" Its a Corolla. The aircon will never die. /Trolldad 1 Quote
ke70dave Posted July 20, 2012 Author Report Posted July 20, 2012 lovin the praise for the new beast! i just love the agressiveish front on it, especially how the indicators are seperate from the headlight with a bit of blue guard. and you have to love the glass headlights, look brilliant, and will stay looking brilliant unlike the plastic ones. and the bit of black in the headlight adds to the look as well. i think some wheels will be in order when it needs new tyres, ill keep my eyes pealed. even something OEM will be better than the plastic hubcaps on steelies. but don't want to impact fuel economy toooo much, katrina will be doing 70kms/day in it from next week:S i just got word that the rego has been transfered, will grab some insurance tonight, then we're off to the goldcoast tomorrow for a day trip in the beast! this lip is pretty cool: Quote
Jono.C Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 I don't mind the Sportivo one's of these. There was a guy on here who had one lowered on kinda dishy wheels, Looked pretty sweet.. If only there was a way to awd these.. Would swing pretty awesome nuts :jamie: Quote
19914afc Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 We had one of the turbo ones come into work looked alright, just another reliable toyota. Quote
snot35 Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Yeah, I have some friends with a Tivo. I think the turbo setup is a little odd, so they had a bit of trouble with it. Good otherwise though. It is a shame there's no AWD, and that we didn't get the two door like the Corolla WRC :D Quote
ke70dave Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 well a bit of an update on the old beast. -remote central locking installed (already had central, i added the remote, just a jaycar kit for $50), katrina kept scratching the door with her keys.......so fixed that once and for all. -had to replace the rear brake pads, they were screaching for some reason, looked to have a fair bit of meat left, but threw some bendix in there, $35 and a few hrs work and back on the road in a non screaching fashion. -powersteering pump appears to be making a bit of noise, topped it up with fluid which helped, seems to drive and steer ok, woudlnt be suprised if i need to reco that in the coming months, but goes alright for the time being! next on the list is going to be a new cd player. see if i can find a cheap double din to replace what is there, else ill have to go for the aftermarket pocket type thing. Yesterday used the tow bar for the first time, picked up a washing machine, a dryer and a lawn mower. bit of a highway drive (50kms or so). Miele (spelling?) appliances, so they weighed a ton, and its probably a medium sized trailer... not gonna lie, it didnt like 100km/h very much with all this on it....it was quiet on the roads so i just sat on 90km/h. Putted along just fine! anyway obligatory photo! Quote
