Fitted the new stereo today, real happy about the job. I fitted it where the old radio goes... with a few difficulties hack hack grind grind. Now the fuel meter doesn't go. ;) Time to get out the trusty multimeter.

 

Next week the adjustable coilover project begins, aslong as the threaded sleeves arrive. Trying to get the suspension tweaked before the new motor fills the slot. Pics coming :y:

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to use the stock computer. Yes, water pipes will be an issue due to clearance and all that (silvertop has silly water outlet facing the wrong way), but that shouldn't stuff with the computer as long as you keep all the factory sensors.

 

What are you going to do with the dizzy?

Oh, just re-read what I posted before, and umm, I think the tacho is out of a Celica, not a Corona...

I'm thinking about going the reverse water adpater and make it cool like a 16V 4A. Sam_Q on toymods has had great sucess with a standard ecu like this. I've heard on stock ECU's you get troubles, but I reakon his works properly is that he's relocated the temperature sensor onto the outlet hose at the front of the motor, ei the water has atually cooled the whole system before it is monitored. If you put the sensor in the back of the head in the threaded hole in the Kellam blockoff plate the water would have only cooled one side of the head before being checked.

 

My mate's a computer systems eng, he's gonna help me with a flip-flop circuit to alternate between coil packs using a GZE ignitor. I just need to get the loom together to test whether the motor does a full revolution to TDC / home on the CAS before firing the first spark. I reakon this would be the case, the ECU must need a reference before using the 24 tooth wheel to work out the true rotation of the motor. I just wish I knew an EFI guru.

I picked up a set of AE86 coilovers today, shortened stock strut with weld on sleeves, has adjustable shockies that are dead :D Been on the phone to the shocky reconditioner and hopefully they can be fixed. Till then I'm gonna run gas camry shockies with 6kg (I think) springs. This weekend I'm gonna rebuild whole front end suspension, nothing will be left untouched. Can't wait to see how it drives!

 

Bit of a shame I didn't end up building the corona coilovers, the brakes are bigger, upgrades are simpler. Ah well, this'll brake alot better than stock and cost a fraction of the price, I can always mod on some RX7 calipars with peug or mini discs.

The flip/flop circuit should work as long as the home pulse rests the circuit so it can fire number one again, the engine fires on every 30 deg crank and a home signal at 720 crank

the home signal will also be needed when you crank the car over, so it will know when to start the firing at #1, you also have to make sure the flip/flop is disabled untill it gets the home signal pulse.

Check all your fuses and make sure u can't twist them I had the same problem with my fuel gauge not working along with the reds. It turned out that the rear demister fuse supplies power to the cluster.

Guess what! I've paid for a kellam box for doing the igniton! Great price too, thanks Jonny Rochester! One headache removed. Thanks for the help though NickZ, I still should make a box to do the ignition, I'm sure people would love to be able to make one cheap.

 

Demuire, is that big resistor to adjust the fuel guage level? Been a bit worried about the long trips of late.

 

I haven't got any gland nut's that'll fit the shockies/struts yet, so the suspension rebuild will have to wait unfortunately. Hopefully in the next week I can get it done, it's getting a bit soft now. One of the caster bar nuts that attach to the LCA is stripped, gonna have to grind it off I think. So happy I've got a parts car, makes life much easier when little things go wrong.

 

Better get some pics of the coilovers, very happy with my purchase.

Got the AE86 gland nut's for holding the shockies down today, a perfect fit. All I've got to do now is get the rotor's machined and score some new brake pads.

Got the rotors machined today, picking up the new bendex high temp pads and some wheel bearing tommorow, all I need now is some AE86 steering arms which I think I have sourced. So close to new suspension!

hey beerhead I agree agree that the temp sensor should be on the front outlet. With the cooling system have u read the guide I posted?

 

I can help with you as much as need with the conversion, i would happy to show u what i know.

Ive put my temp sensor at the front outlet, the outlet that goes to the top radiator hose.

Had a good read through the water conversion you did Sam, it's got everything explained good enough to attempt the conversion, will take you up on the offer if there's any troubles. I'm gonna use a 4AC housing too, will try and AE82 twincam waterpump that I have lying around. Still finishing the front suspension over the next week, then the transplant should begin after that.

Yes resistor was to get the fuel gauge to read more correct. IIRC it reads correct when it's empty, not necessarily correct when full.
