March 29, 200620 yr Author comment_109128 not sure, but thinking the piston let go, has happened before. could be a bad piston?? Report
March 29, 200620 yr comment_109132 Ill upload my pics that i took.. omfg.. you should see whats left of the block :P Report
March 29, 200620 yr comment_109135 looks sus as, shouldn't let go there, you'd think a small end would come apart, not the whole gudgeon connection. Report
March 29, 200620 yr Author comment_109140 constant reving at 7000+ rpm will do that if there's no load on the engine. the Autocross circuit is clay and you're only allowed to use road tyres, so it's like driving on ice, NO TRACTION. Report
March 29, 200620 yr comment_109141 PING PING PING PING PING BAAAAAAAAAAANG SMASH CRACK SMACK BANG (ducks) Woah! Bloody pistons.. they could kill somebody tone of these days :P :) That is a dead 5K (looks at 5K in my garage) oh oh.. Chris! :lolcry: Report
March 29, 200620 yr Author comment_109143 No problem, we have 2 spare 5k blocks with cranks and rods, i have 2 complete 7k engines and i'm sure there's some other goodies in the garage i can use as well. have to buy some new ARP rod bolts, as the old ones are a little bent, and maybe some 4AGE pistons, i know they can handle 8000rpm. she'll live again Report
March 29, 200620 yr Author comment_109148 still checking it out, but it's looking good. 4age pistons are 81mm so you have to bore the block. they also come with an 18mm or 20mm pin. there's not much difference in height either. Report
March 29, 200620 yr comment_109155 i think you f@$ked it :P was the head destoyed aswell? or did it go straight down thru the bottom? Report
March 29, 200620 yr Author comment_109157 head looks ok, no bent valves, but there was coolant sitting in the crown of the piston which we think has come from the piston belting the head and stretching the head bolts and allowing coolant to enter the cylinder. most of the damage is in the bottom end. March 29, 200620 yr comment_109182 i thought it was common that the gudgeon pins let go when pushing k series hard for long periods of time? i'd been told to u acl ones ther aparently better???? and i thought it you used 4age pistons they had about 2mm less height creating low as compression? if not i'd be keen as to know.. 4agze pistons would be overrated in my turbo 5k. :P two complete 7k's you lucky barsted :) Report
