dingeldei Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 i saw an all wheel drive 92 corolla wagon on he road the other day and made me think if it was possible to use one to convert my 92 sedan to all wheel drive? and of course if you were going to go that much effort youd want a 4 age as well... so is it possible to convert a sedan or hatch to awd? if so would there be any dificulty putting in a 4age more than usual? on another note, would it be possible to just slap a 4age in to a wagon? has anyone tried this or is there some massive issue stopping people from doing this? ultimately the dream would be converting my 92 sedan to an awd 4age turbo. as far as i know it hasnt been done before which is what makes this tempting (if possible) Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) The AE92 came as an AWD sedan and wagon, but I doubt Aussie got any. So yes, its possible. I think the chassis are different so would probably be easier to import one. Theres the SR-5 4WD wagon too. Edited June 29, 2014 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 FYI, AE95s (both wagon and sedan) run completely different rear-ends to their FWD brethren, so it's not a simple swap. Converting the 4AFE in an AE95 wagon (which were sold new in Aus, the sedans are all imports and very uncommon) to a 4AGE is a much simpler job, from memory the 20V silvertop is the easiest as it has cutouts in the block to get around the 4WD gearbox - there have been a couple of 4AGZE conversions too but they are harder since the supercharger and assorted components interferes with the centre diff Quote
ke70dave Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Lots and lots of work for what a WRX (or RX for Non turbo) already does 100x better. Quote
towe001 Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Its been ages and i've lost the link, with loving thanks to Xmarks for the loss. But it was either http://www.twincam.org/ or http://forum.twincam.org.au/ a forum member had a write-up of the massive job in converting his ae92 hatchback to awd. From memory there was also video of the finished job on the street. Quote

Hiro Protagonist Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Like V6/8 KE70's on here? Pretty much. Back in the old days it used to be "BOV on a 4AGZE"... Quote
Trev Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Yeah but back then twincammers couldn't think outside the box. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 Yeah but back then twincammers couldn't think outside the box. More a case of flaming n00bs who (despite actually proposing things that could/would work) had no concept of the amount of time, money and effort required to see the project through. Quote
towe001 Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 No i was wrong. It was a Nissan NX which was converted to awd. http://forums.mightycarmods.com/showthread.php?10718-FWD-to-AWD-RWD-Conversion But i think the best one would've been a 90's model Mitsubishi Mirage running an 6A12 awd in Britain. I think its half the reason i stepped away from corolla's. No ability to think outside the box. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 No ability to think outside the tissue box. Couldn't help throwing in a KE70 jab there... Quote
.T. Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 We looked into a awd conversion on LADYSX as there really wasn't anything else we could have done to the car & traction was a problem. I actually have the chassis diagrams detailing the differences between the ae92& ae95 (not many differences actually) & st185 floorpans & what parts needed to be modified to it an irs rear (instead of the ae95 live axle) however we ended up selling the car as it didn't work with kids. would still like to do the conversion one day though Quote
crunk81us Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Young fella asked me yesterday "do you know wheres theres anyone with a small rwd car" me:Why? "I want to convert a fwd pulsar to rwd" me: why? "coz i think it'd be cool, and something different" you know what your up for? "Yes" me:Buy a rwd corolla. Quote
