Hey guys. I'm new here, and new to corollas!

 

I was wondering if you help me out on a matter. I've been looking for a project car for a while now and stumbled upon this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/toyota/auction-850643731.htm. I was thinking about getting this because it is cheap and missing it's engine/tranny (wanted to do an engine swap but not worth it in my current car). The only thing is, it is also missing it's wheels and front crossmember. I imagine wheels wouldn't be too hard to come by but a missing front crossmember seems like it is pretty big deal breaker. What do you guys think? I was also wondering about the availability of parts for the car and if they are rare/expensive or cheap and decently easy to find.

How motivated are you with regards to working on cars, as its a Huge project to start with, not sure how cheap it is as there is a shit load of work ..

Shouldn't be too hard to find a crossmember. Getting harder to find bits and pieces, but realistically you should be able to find whatever you need. Some exterior trim parts are getting fairly pricey these days.

Agree ! This is a very big project, if you've never taken anything on like this before. This is really the only way to restore a car of that age properly. Full strip & start from the ground up. However, despite the cost involved in the body work & respray, which unless you are qualified, will probably have to be carried out by a professional, you are talking big dollars, as well as having to source the missing items.

 

Unless you have deep pockets, I would find something first up, that is all there, with the very best body you can find. Mechanical bits & pieces are relatively easy to source, & are cheap compared to major body work/rust removal & respray. Replacing mechanical bits a bit at a time, is also something you can probably do yourself, a bit at a time.

If you haven't taken it apart you will never get it back together again, unless you have done several strips before. Just imagine sitting the garage surrounded by hundreds of bits of car that you don't have a clue where they go and more important, you don't know WHICH bits are not in the pile!

 

Buy a going one, the best body you can find as Banjo said, and do a rebuild then modify it. Once you have done that you will be right for finishing other people's projects.

 

$1000, LoL! Its just a pile of KE25 parts... $400 the lot!

The grille is the wrong one for a 71. The grille also doesn't match the front guards. Seriously not worth the money.

It is red so doubly desirable (in my opinion). I say go for it, but you would want to seriously renegotiate the price.

I was thinking of getting it for the parts and rust cuts - but it's not worth the hassle for that price......

Olds cool autos can probably supply whatever`s missing if you decide to og for it
