September 3, 20251 yr Author comment_738329 Sorry everyone following, life events took over and I didn’t find time to work on Kevin. But I’m back now, and to get back into the saddle I welded up some table blocks that will come in handy later i haven’t welded anything that thick before and so trying both inside and outside welds was an interesting experiment Report
September 3, 20251 yr Author comment_738330 But then I started on a small task that is now snowballing. There was a rusty section on the drivers side guard and a little section on the base, I used the small English wheel to put a curve in a section and it seemed to match well but that’s where all my good intentions came undone. As I planned the cuts I realised I would cut through the support frame on the inside. So I started to part the seam of the metal so I could extract the frame support… except the outer skin started splitting and not coming off the frame So I have been sitting and thinking for a while. And if I need to remake the edge of the panel then so be it, will remove all the rust anyhow Edited September 3, 20251 yr by wenisman Clarification Report
September 10, 20251 yr comment_738351 Good to see you posting again, Geoff. The whole project turned out to be a huge snowball 😞 I saw the MCM guys put a 2TR in an old Hilux recently. It looked to be a pretty tall engine. You sure it'll fit in there without a scoop? Report
September 12, 20251 yr Author comment_738352 @pogopinsI didn’t see that mcm, but I’ll check it out. The 3rz fits without the scoop, nugget garage has the 3rz in a ke10. But the 2tr uses the same block so I’m hoping it will fit… I will need a new oil pan and to get the engine as low as possible but I guess time will tell. Worst case I’ll go back to a 3rz but I will post soon for the guard, I’m going through the motions of getting the brace out. Report
17 hours ago17 hr Author comment_738752 Well life got in the way for a while, after losing both my parents I kind of lost motivation and many a project stopped. But I’ve decided to take a sabbatical from work and focus on the family and getting back to my old self.So that means… getting back to the front fender. When I left off I had removed the inner brace as when I cut out the slab rust patch I could see there was much rust back there. So I took the strip wheel to the brace and found some pin holes that also needed mending. And the top of the brace had rusted so that got some treatment tooBut after looking at the bottom section of the fender I think I will just cut the bottom off and remake it. It’s heavily corroded and the 0.8mm steel will be paper thin by the time I clean it up Report
