If you wanted to make one, you should probably start off with a wagon. Most factory utes (ie. Commodore ute, Falcon ute) have started off as wagons then got chopped up to achieve what they want.

 

This means that you are going to have to do a shitload of bracing to keep the structural integrity of the car to a standard, not to mention getting the bastard of a thing to pass roadworthy etc....

 

Easier would to be make a one tonner style thing, mounted some chassis of another smaller car, ie sierra or something.. but in reality its a headf@$k and alot of work..

 

If you want to do it though, go for it!

a bloke has done a KE70 wagon/panelvan ute conversion and I'm preety sure it has a bigport conversion also and i believe is now on the road!!

and i was thinking the ke70 wuld look gay but the ke55 wuldnt be too bad...and yeh was thinking flat tray or just making a built in roll bad to keep the strenght

a flat tray would be unreal man, i reckon a KE55 job would look great such an angry looking car from the front!!

if you were serious about doing this the easiest would be a panel van, i have senn about a dozen gemini panel vans turned in to utes, a couple made hot 4s magazines.

 

but if i saw you cut a corolla panel van up that was in good condition i would cut your balls off.

there was a hack job on the side of the road for sale a while back, it take alot of work to make it look any decent!

My uncle made a torana ute,the approval alone was over $1500, and the test is VERY demanding of chasis strength. They tie # corners of your car down, then jack one up to a certain pressure, then measure flex! :hammer:
