  1. there are a few mg turbos over here in nz so not impossable to find but there are a few around you just have to look hard enough and madrolla68 no its not a ke10 its a ke70 so eng bay is a tad bigger. if i had a 10 then i'd prob move the alt to the dissy side and mount turbo where alt used to be :lmao: as for "boost referencing the stock mechanical fuel pump" i thought about this but decided this was not a good idea having pressurised air and fuel sitting on the side of a HOT block of metal.
  2. 5k ele dissys can usally be got for about NZ$70 you just have to find them. hey untubbed_20. what cams have you tryed?
  3. ever had a look at 7k rods???? there like toothpics... wayyyy weaker than 4k rods... if you are going to do this project i'd say invest in some aftermarket ones
  4. u'd have to get a pretty massive turbo or a crap manifold before it will start to lag... mine runs a turbo off a 2L subaru and if i floor it on the motorway at 3000rpm it has 10psi there straight away and will happly go off the clock in 4th... but that a bit scary in a old rolla :)
  5. i run standard ele dissy set at about 12degress at idle with vac advance and mech advance... the ele ones only run 12 or so mech advance (so i've heard?) i had a 4k locked dissy before but didn't like how it ran... never tryed a 4k unlocked one tho. i don't really know which works better (vac advance etc) really need to get on a dyno and compare but that would require money :D i never blew a head gasket on my 4k only rings and valve stem seals (had suck-tho and fuel got into oil) i blew a gasket on my 5k straigght away because the head was warped but havent had any trouble since. rings seem to be the weak point... (on 12psi anyway :D )
  6. ask as many questions as you want. share the info i say... i use a 5k electronic ing and coil from a toyota. as for the turbo i use a vf10 off a subaru in a 4bolt mazda housing so the wastegate is seperate :)
  7. i've been told you can use the dihatshui carbs its look excatly the same as the standard 4k carb but its sealed a bit better and then you just have to re-jet. i think they will last quite a while on 6psi.. its just getting it to hold 6psi nicely... but shouldn't b that hard with a little turbo. twin sidies will make a more reliable motor but turbo will make more power... and be tricker to get running smooth. all depends on how much you can do yourself???? but me. i'm hooked. not really a rotor head but i do have a nice little collection of old mazdas :)
  8. i ment how youve done it with a constant pressure yes i use a rising rate malpassi suited for carbs. runs at ~5psi idle and rising 1to1 with boost. factory on a few cars out there... mg montego, early dihatshui charde 3cyc, and i think renualt fuegos. i was told by supplier of cheap rising rate regs that they are adjustable rite down to 4psi or so. but was never game enough to try one. then scored a malpassi for free :) funny you should mention the hilux diff i was looking at one today because i can't sorce any axels at the moment (for my little diff). its just the cost.. this is only my daily driver not a car i spend any money i don't have to on, there all bits i had laying around and make. i have other cars that i will waste my money on :D btw: mine boosts 12psi so your fuel system might not quite be upto it :D
  9. yea i use a malpassi and a pump off a mg montego that is factory carb turbo. then jst made new fuel lines.. no idea on power but since i've had the 5k in i've snapped two axels in a few weeks :P at a guess i'd say 110hp??? with head work and bigger valves i could get alot more out of it. i love the way youve done your fuel set-up, how hard case... does it run really rich down low? now i've run out of axel's and only 4days b4 i'm ment to go on holiday :P
  10. yea its a su... fuel reg is at back of eng bay... yea my manifold is some exctractors cut and flipped around and shortends and a collector made. and yes it is a screamer ;) specs was a standard 4k.. now is a standard 5k ;)
  11. shits and giggles over here in nz as well :P my daily driver
  12. yea.. could deck block or shave head... i'm auctaually wondering about using 7k rods with the 4agze pistons and the 5k crank ad mayb mill abit outta the head if comp is too high?? is there online catologs that show specs on rods and pistons??? keen to hear about your 4age pistons if they fit.
  13. i thought it was common that the gudgeon pins let go when pushing k series hard for long periods of time? i'd been told to u acl ones ther aparently better???? and i thought it you used 4age pistons they had about 2mm less height creating low as compression? if not i'd be keen as to know.. 4agze pistons would be overrated in my turbo 5k. :P two complete 7k's you lucky barsted :)
  14. hmmm i was told the 3k sump would get hit by the rods because of the longer stroke... so thats good news it fits :) did you block up the old oil feed that runs to the hydro lifters?
  15. MEAN!!!!!! i want one :) a couple of questions tho... what sump are you using? did you modify the crossmember to clear it? what clutch are you using? is it holding up? did u use 5k solid lifters or? and last but not least what happened to the injection inlet manifold? :lolcry:
  16. i'd just go find a cheap/free 4k and chuck that in if its just your run around... or even give it a light re-build if you plan to keep it for a long time. i changed my motor the other day. tied a rope around it slid pole through rope over top of both guards my mate on one side and me on the other put pole on shoulders then stood up and walked forwards. a 3rd person would deff be a bonus to guide it. btw: i dropped box out first cause it so easy and can do that by hand on your own. ps. if you take the head off first its alot easyier/lighter
  17. yea flat tops on a 4k would be sweet with boost but flat tops in a 5k with boost will have massive compression because there isn't much chamber in the 5k head. i normally always run 98 but was broke the other week and put 91 in... and yea its fine on 98 only gone upto 12psi so far... motor is now dead tho :) and i put a 5k in yesterday :) hey felix.. would 2k pushrods be better than3k ones? (were 3k ones on the end of there adjustment?) a few of the guys in nz that race k series motors tell me to block the oil feed to the lifters if i was gonna use solids... weird
  18. unfortently i'm in New Zealand so i'll be using a local cam grinder. could anyone tell the standard specs for a 5k cam? please
  19. hey rolla_boy what comp ratio do you have? how much boost? does it pink much? mine does on 91 at about 9psi.. lol
  20. i wouldnt run flat tops AND a supercharger.. compression would be massive!!!!! felix are the 3k rod the right size or do they require some work to fit? i was gonna go out and buy some chev ones tomorrow but i thought they might be a bit on the heavy side.. when converting to solid do you block up the oil feed to the lifters? or replace the cam sheel with a 4k one?
  21. a vf10 is a lecacy rs. as far as i know the liberty didn't come out in nz as far as i can remember and i think they had vf12's and were bigger than the vf10 and vf8's so a standard cam with more lift would be the go? and perhaps a little less duration.
  22. don't you guys have pick-a-part over in aus? just take your tape measure out there and go looking :locked:
  23. maybe the overlap helps the turbo spool or something???? i jus don't know :D
  24. ok so i know a bit about cars... how to build them... how to make/weld stuff etc... at the moment i have a turbo 4k ke70 as my daily driver. i do all the work myself and tuning etc.. i've built a 5k for my sisters ke35 but that was a simple rebuild with ported head etc.. now i'm about to re-build a 5k i scored for cheap. so far i plan to use factory pistons... acl geodgen pins and rings/bearings 3 angle the valves and port the head. i'm gonna try the holden lifters and a12 pushrods. BUT when i come to the cam i'm unsure of what to do. my local guy just reconmened using standard duration etc but just upping the lift to about 400". i've looked around and everywhere that has any info is in reguards to n/a motors and with the turbo hanging off the side i thought you were ment to change the overlap to suit but i have no idea as to what specs would be good. btw. i have equal length headers and a vf10 turbo in a mazda 4bolt housing. its blow-through with intercooler etc. any suggestions as to cam specs would be overrated! as i thought the 5k being outta a van the cam wont really suit big power or stret driving. Todd
  25. thought i should intruduce myself... i'm todd. i live in auckland new zealand and my daily driver is a KE70 2dr wagon with a turbo 4k in it. stock looking on 14" steel rims. :P
