And You Thought He Was Serious.....
rolla_4 replied to Raven's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
theres a pic to throw around the work email hey faulksy? -
Give it a go... I have 2 left feet and I'm alright!

From what I have seen 20v's seem easier to find and in a lot of cases cheaper than a 16v's. 16v's are getting old now and harder to find one with low ks. It all depends on how much ya wanna spend essentially. Do you wanna keep stock ecu or go aftermarket, turbo/supercharger/both or naturally aspirated? Motor straight in off the shelf or rebuilt with goodies first? EDIT: I like the plates as well.... nice...

What sorta performance car enthusiast would he be if he didnt luv it. Top work to Valandor for organising pace notes and cheers for roids70 for givin me an excuse to go out for a cruise.

I wish I could say I did it but I bought the car with it done.

Bear in mind if you buy another twin cam its likely to be high ks now and probably in a roughish condition. If you go the conversion route you can have a low ks motor in ( if ya get a front cut you know the exact ks on the clock ) and hopefully a far more reliable car due to a later model motor. You can then spend more money on other areas of your car such as suspension, brakes, paint ect. Just another point of view for ya to think about... :ninja: I personally like the conversion idea but it all comes down to how much you want to spend on an old AE82. Just for the record I have a AE82 with a 20v conversion and I luv it!

If you go the 20 valve I wouldnt expect much change from 5k if someone is going to do it for you. :ninja:

Firstly there are 5 types of 4age engines. 3 16valve versions ( 1 of them supercharged) and 2 20 valves. Firsty does the cam cover have twin cam 16 or twin cam 20 on it..... That will determine if its a 16 or 20 valve (obviously). You say its a silvertop engine. If it has twin cam 20 on it its what is known as a 20 valve silvertop... (funny bout that). That has about 120kw in standard form. If it says twin cam 16 it will depend on the colors of the writing. If it has some blue writing its the 88kw big port 4age (more for JDM version). If its the red writing with the spark plug cover its the 100kw small port one. The other one is the 20 valve "blacktop" and believe it or not it has a black cam cover! :ninja: That has about 125kw. The other one is the 4agze and that is usually distinguished by the supercharger hanging of the side. Hope this helps. Peoples correct me if I'm wrong. This may also help.... http://4age.net/tech/importengines.htm

Its getting hard now to come across low k examples of the 16v (without a supercharger at least). Best bet would be to hunt down a 20v front cut if you are looking at keeping it NA! Just check out a HPI or a Zoom magazine (surely you should have one around) and they usually have a lot of advertisments for people selling front cuts and even the motor by itself! In Adelaide fours n more near parafield (just off reasearch rd) deal with a few 20 valves and know their 4age motors well! Thats really the only people I have dealt with so far when it comes to 4ages! Hope this helps....

Doesnt most people! :D

Wats The Best Engine 2 Get In A Ae 92 Corolla Hatch
rolla_4 replied to rolla_stewy's topic in Engine Conversions
You could probably get away with using your current gearbox. The best option would be to buy a half cut and rip it all out from that! It really depends on what option you want to take though. Wether it be 20v, 16v or GZE. don't take this the wrong way but to be honest as its your first car it may be a better option to save ya cash, drive the rolla till it dies (which may be a while... its a Toyota! :) ) and then go out and get either a Corolla already with the motor you want (4age) or another car altogether. ( must be a Toyota :monkey: ) At the end of the day though it is your call. -
:monkey: This thread is piss funny! I agree though... Year 12 schooling sucks.... but i would still give up almost everything to go back to school! 6 hours a day with every weekend off (not to mention school holidays), 3 breaks a day all hanging with your friends..... What they say is true.... You don't appreciate it till its all over! :)

Who is organising pace notes..... I mean cruise map! :monkey: Is we meeting at Castle Plaza and what time? Any idea where we are heading too. A city run or a hills run ect ect..

Wats The Best Engine 2 Get In A Ae 92 Corolla Hatch
rolla_4 replied to rolla_stewy's topic in Engine Conversions
Stewy stewy stewy! :) You doubting me and my suggestions! The only real way to power up your AE92 would be the 4age in some form as ancullen has suggested! All other options will require some serious engineering and/or cash! The 1UR- FSE would be a great idea :monkey: but i tend to think space might become an issue! Why not just ask your old man for his 6cyl out of his 100 series cruiser! :P: -
Gold! Love ya work Trev! :(
-
Good find! :( Boy do they have a selection! This will be great at work when its quiet! :D

You actually can! You need to put in the area code as well! So much for my number being a private one! :) Very interesting.... :D EDIT: Note to self. Need to refresh pages before posting!

Half a Porsche? :) My quickest car to date... The old 20v AE82... :D Not quick in the grand scheme of things but its fun and enjoyable to drive! I know a guy with a r32 GTR who took a spin in my old AE82 twinky and he got out with a grin from ear to ear! He loved it and this is after using his GTR as a daily driver! :P

So can we book the 11th in for the cruise? I got it off so I'm in for sure! roids70 , if you are still gonna be in Adelaide on the 15th as well you could come to the drive in for something different! ( as mentioned before by Valandor ) Do you know yet if you will have your car with you or not? I reckon this should be a good night..... Anyone is welcome. Toyota :( or not :( http://www.toyotacarclub.net/node/632 :D

:) Good story..... You should have originally gone for doughnuts! :) Wonder how the cops would have taken that?

I currently have Bendix General CT (ceramic technology) and I'm not happy with them. They fade quick, dust up my rims within a a few k's and don't really have a good bite. I went into autobarn and asked for ferodo excel's which is what I had on them before and they organised these ones and advised me they would be a similar pad..... I took there word for it..... but not the case! Very happy with my old Ferodo Exels but Bendix General CT's... no good! EDIT: I should also mention I'm running them with DBA cross drilled and slotted rotors. The old Ferodo Exels never faded, minimal dusting and had a good initial bite.
