Stu, Theres no bump steer. On full lock, On full compression the rack turns 2mm.. which is nothing and it goes Toe out which is a shitload better then toe in. I'm amazed at how well it turned out. I was thinking if I had to redo the position about two or three times i'd be happy but following Robs KE25 R&P conversion, doing a shitload of measurements myself and having a dad who is switched on when it comes so suspension set up it helps a lot. I will get a video of it tomorrow in action. Very very happy with it.

Bit of an update..... Castor rod brackets on and castor rods mounted Decent amount of lock... can get a little more but don't think i'll bother.. went for a 2 hour train ride across sydney with $700 in my pocket tonight... OHHHHHHHHH the joy's of being licenceless. :bash: I bought these :laff: AE86 hubs, Ae86 AJPS rx7 caliper brackets, rebuilt FC calipers, EBC greenstuff pads, Brand new civic discs redrilled by AJPS... all bolts. Mmm got to love bolt on shit!!! Makes it so easy. Goign to make a 3SGE BEAMS>AE86 bolt in conversion. It will include a Gearbox crossmember, Engine cross member, LEEN SXE10 shifter kit... Hopefully under a grand.

PowerFC or Adaptronic are the easiest ways to control the motor and retain the VVTI. Stu, VVTI and Vtec are completely different... When i bought my beams... I thought I was getting Vtec but it's different. Vtec comes in around 6 grand or something like that and has like 2 cam settings... VVTi constantly changes I believe.. dunno, don't quote me baha!

KE20 cross member, KE70 rack and pinion... little temporary brackets. sits snug.. roughly 85mm from the centre of the centre of the LCA bushings, and about 23mm from the end of the crossmember to the rack. 8mm above the LCA pivot point. Will do a bumpsteer check soon...... Looks good so far though.
-
All I did was chop 20mm off both ends, weld right angle to it, box it up, drill holes, bolt it into the car and weld big washers to the underside of the crossmember... Would be a lot easier than what i'm doing now, but for legalitys I can't.

They are 14x7 rims with a 195/45r14 tyre and I got 155/50r14 for it aswell. Why don't you widen a set of 15" SAAB interceptor rims and run a 175/50r15 tyre. 15x7.5" chasers with a 175/50r15 would look Overrated and you can get 15's to sit well on a KE10. Bump steer won't be an issure when putting a standard KE70 rack on a KE20 crossmember. I have already chopped a KE70 crossmember for a KE10.. it works a lot better for a track hack or non street car, but since I'm using this KE10 for everyday driving and I need it to pass engineering I need the crossmember to be a standard, bolt in configuration. The KE20/Te27 crossmember is the solution for this and using Rob's KE25 R&P conversion, Here's the link by the way.. it's a good read, and I plan on copying his rack position, but modifying it a little for my car. Rob's KE25 Rack and Pinion conversion!

I paid $2500 for a complete motor gearbox, loom, engine bay loom, tailshaft.... I've got Blacktop quad throttle bodies that I've made to 49mm with custom butterflys, Custom manifold to get it into my KE10... I am halfway through my BEAMS > KE10. It uses a KE20 cross member, BA falcon engine mount and stock altezza cast engine mount... really neat. You will have to cut your firewall and I recomend a ke70 rack and pinion. Fits better than a steering box as all the steeringbox linkages hit the motor. I got the j160 box into the ke10, Had to remove the tunnel and notch the central floor brace and get a LEEN j160 shifter kit ( Brings shifter 170mm forward ) I'm going to run a Pipercross filter, custom trumpets, 49mm blacktop quads, Custom manifold, baby TODA cams to keep the VVTi, adaptronic ECU and equal length extractors, although may run the stock extractors as they look decent... just heat wrap them. It's going to cost around 12 grand for a full build from scratch... but that's doing nearly everything myself.
-
Mate I got every part to make this Overrated and original. I even got a rear bumper bar I'm willing to sell.
-
Hey mate, I've googled around heaps and haven't seen anybody mention putting carby's on a 3SGE BEAMs... I've seen it on a 3SGE ... but not the beams with VVTi on both cams. I'd like to do it aswell but would be virtually impossible to tune with VVTi so... yeah
-
Yeah I just want to take the top in without taking the bottums out. I want to keep it under the stock guards. Got it sorted, don't worry :-O
-
Ah that explains it. The diff I bought for $1000 was a hilux LSD torsen diff with 4x110. I was like fark yeah when I bought it but now I need 4x114.3 :( such a pain. Not sure on what to do haha. The Axles have actually been chucked in a lathe and machined down to fit inside the Rx7 discs.... :S I'll see what I can do today, hopefully sort something out
-
Biggest problem at the moment. Hilux diff.. Hilux 5 stud, 4x110 and I want 4x114.3 in there aswell. Plus theres 1 random hole. Ahhhh expensive cars :-( Might plug weld all the holes and drill it out. If it breaks, get some billet axles made later down the track.

How did her bend them!?
-
More positive offset = gay. Who wants FWD wheels on a rwd ;) Man, bent struts is the way. I'm going to have an experiment with some old Ke70 struts tomorrow. Hopefully i'll make a jig up for my press and work out a way to acurately bend struts... machine up a 30-40mm spacer to drop in the bottum and then get short stroke shocks of some description and sort it all out! will be tough as guts .. i hope. Hahahahaha I love you signature, I was like.. when the fvck did I write that lol!!
-
I have seen it aswell, but won't help me as the strut hits the shock tower :-(
-
with an S13 LCA it gives a shitload more camber, but the top doesn't pull it in enough. The ke70 LCA sticks out enough, I just need to somehow pull the tops in more or angle the wheel more. I think cold bending the struts will work.
-
It's getting there lol!
-
Getting over the whole firewall/tunnel thing, so did abit of sticker bombing on this car to annoy some old people :) Flush with the guards.. Desired ride height, sump is around 50mm off the ground here. I've got abit of a problem. I need more camber. With a KE20 crossmember, Ke70 LCA to keep the bottom of the wheel under the guard and the Cambertops wound all the way in ( as close as I can get it to the tower ) there is still positive camber. The only thing I can think of is to get 40mm RCA's to re-allign the roll centre, Cold bend the struts and if that doesn't do it chop the tops of the strut tower's out and push them out to get more camber. I only want around 0 to -3 camber.

2TG motor got sold before I bought the Beams motor. 2TG is a very awesome conversion for KE20's is it bolts and is period correct and they sound sweet!! can't beat twin side drafts! 2TG's are cheap enough, although they are a very old motor and that's why I steered clear of them. Trying to find parts to rebuild it was a mission so I gave up and sold the motor in pieces to somebody else on RC

To Do A 5K, 7K, 3Sge, 4 Age Or 2Tg Conversion???
Jordain replied to MattJA's topic in Engine Conversions
127kg with plenum and extractors, flywheel and clutch, air con pump too. No idea how much the gearbox weighs... feels like a good 40kg. Not much difference from a worked 4AGE with a W Series box.... -

It virtually bolts straight upto a stock KE20 cross member once you cut the mounts off using a BA falcon engine mount. Obviously firewall work and transmission tunnel work. A gearbox mount and the engine bolts is mounted in. It's a really good conversion, I'm so glad I'm doing it. Here's a link to my build thread. Jordains BEAMS KE10 It's piss easy to get it to mount into a KE10/20 once the firewall is removed. You need to run a LEEN SXE10 shifter kit which brings the gearstick 170mm forward. Obviously you will have to do the following: Firewall Tunnel Gearbox mount Modify stock mounts Radiator Exhaust Diff tailshaft Wiring Beware it's not for the faint hearted.. all I think about 24/7 is my car. It fvcks with you, mentally and physically. -
Thanks guys, getting a few more nuts and bolts tomorrow so It's properly bolted in, Hopefully make a template of the firewall and maybe even make something up. Was thinking about doing the rack and pinion but I'm going to wait till my dad's got an afternoon off work and get him to help me and his the family suspension/car set'er-up-er-er lol.

Go 3SGE Beams... it's a good fit and good little conversion. Here's mine in my KE10 -
mid gearbox mount finalisation, Stickerbombed rearview mirror... lol got abit bored of welding haha, had to mix it up. Tough as guts Motor sitting happily. Chilled summer day.. finally, out of the shed. So so glad it's mounted. Had to chuck a seat in and get a feel of the new car, defiantly put a smile on my face sitting in it!
