You want a phat sound? Saw exhaust in half at round about the location of the front seats... To roadworthy mine I replaced the rusted out resonator with a bit of custom pipe (cost: $10). The other night, the u-bolt loosened sufficiently to allow separation of the two halves, with the result of straight pipes. Crazazy stuka bomber noises all night long, till I bolted it back up the next morn. Hehe. Have I told this story before? I love this story...

Ref request in my other thread, the number on my 3K-H head is 33.

Hey kids. Head is off. My first major excursion into an engine, and it was scarily easy... And thanks for the advice towe001... of course I use bloody coolant: nice, fresh, correctly diluted Tectaloy. The gasket was overrated, so no worries there. The problem is very likely what nissan feeling said; a number of the water channels were almost full of rust coloured sludge, and one or two had some calciferous deposits almost blocking them. I'd say its had the head off before, but not for a long time. Any way, on the topic of bloody wreckers. Bought the trading post, and it had an ad for whole k motors from some place at Wacol, $150. Go to Redcliffe wrecking, "How much for a Toyota 3K head, mate?" "Ahh, don't know if we got any that'll be any good, but it'll be $125." I snigger a bit, and reply, "Are you bloody joking? Place at wacol, you can buy the whole bloody motor for $150, and you want $125 for the head?" He looks stupid for a few moments, then realises that he looks stupid, then replies, "Yeah... well good luck trying to find one that doesn't smoke like a c**t." "Seeya." Much better reception at the other wreckers on Grice st, don't know the name of the place, but they have a green fence. Their price is still $85. Not many options though.

And of course, there is the logical follow up question: if the head has got to go, what is the best option for a replacement? Would I go faster with a 4K head bolted on? Would it even bolt on? The 4K's extra displacement was stroked out of it, not bored, correct? Should I do a dodgy backyard port job on it? Talk to me people...

Delivering pizzas quite happily the other night. On the way back to the store from the last del of the night, engine starts to run rough, as if it was weak on one cylinder. I think, "Meh, probably just some carby bullshit. It'll fix itself." Get back to the store, less than one km, "Oh shit." What looks like smoke, coming in quite a copious fashion from the exhaust. So I surmise the worst, that the rings are f@$ked and a full rebuild is required. Baby it home, next day take a look. Do compression test, phew. Its all good. Look in radiator, it is sans coolant. Look at dipstick, it is covered in creamy sludge. Aaargh! The mysterious white cloud from exhaust was steam. So am I correct in guessing I require a new head? Or, at the very least, hopefully just a gasket? A experienced mechanic who hasn't seen the car, only had me describe its condition over the phone, feels that head corrosion is the likely culprit. Is this something anyone else has experienced? Just to remind everyone, the car is a '75 KE30, with 3K-H.

Brakes. Can Pump Them Up. Need Help
Corolla Test Pilot replied to love ke70's topic in General Mechanical
Good to hear you fixed what ailed ye. But the problem you initially described sounded a lot like what was wrong with mine for along time: master cylinder past its expiry date, the piston only sealing with the cylinder at random intervals. Sometimes straight to the carpet, sometimes rock solid at the top of the pedal. Replaced cylinder, bled it properly, brakes like new. Hurrah for 30 year old hydraulics. -
To my way of thinking, hooning is the practice of lighting up, drifting, or going 40+ over the limit in urban (read main drags, and around peoples homes) areas. And while I would never say that I don't get as close to things as I possibly can in my bog standard KE30 on the odd occasion, I do think its wrong. If you go nucking futz in places like this, you risk HURTING OTHER PEOPLE and WRECKING OTHER PEOPLE'S SHIT. And people going about their ordinary business in these areas should not have to worry about taking precautions against this degree of lunacy. So the cops fist peole engaging in this sort of behaviour. On the other hand, they tend to turn a blind eye to more responsible forms of illegal automobile tomfoolery(heh). If you think the cops have no idea where the local drags or drifts are held in industrial areas or back roads, you're kidding yourself. Um, yeah.

Truck Vs Pole (1m X 35cm)

Guessed as much. But it mystifies me why companies design cars with such ridiculous inefficiencies as wedge chambers, and offset plugs and siamesed ports in the first place. Doing it properly the first time would be so much easier...

Um, these are fat 15's. Need 2 spacers to clear the shocks up front, and probable 30mm flare. Rears need no spacers, but still some flare. And yes I know you can only legally alter track by 5% or something, but thats a risk I'm willing to take. Cops can see rubber outside of guards, but they're not so good at maths.

Jeeesuuus...

Fiat 500. Sure, you won't win, but at least you'll have plenty of fun. Does a Moke fall under the NO MINIS rule? Same as above, except as the risk of death or dismemberment increases, so will the amount of fun. Or, if you want to have a real crack, Fiat 127. 998cc's, but they go hard. As in, "sounds like 998 damned souls being whipped at 8000+ whips per minute" hard. Fook has also witnessed the late Barry Veitch wheel his one I believe.

It seems I've been mistaken. Lowness is not the goal. Stopping it from being a sloppy bag of crap is the goal. Complimentary to this goal, and probably more effective, will be the fitment of 15s, to lower the profile and stop the sidewall of the tyre doing most of the gripping during 'khanas, roundabouts, etc. But will need to flare the guards for that. And JiP_01, I hope you didn't spend all them simoleons on the rear... Maybe on shocks and custom springs all round? And what is a slapper bar? Cause the wagons do have an extra leaf.

Hey! why not a Centura? That wtf factor would be way more powerful than with the Gemmy, I'd imagine. Anything that came with speed holes in the doorsills off the showroom floor would have to be a surprise for the win. But you'd probably want to weld the doors shut straight up: one launch with a hot 265 and they'd never shut again.

Maybe if I'd ever pulled the head off a K motor I'd understand better, but is it just the spacings of the pushrods that would limit room for intake ports? And yeah, there are plenty of pushrod crossflow engines: every single 253, 308, 350, 351, 427, ad infinitum. If anyone here can machine me one for my 3K, I'll give you $100 for it. Hehe.
-
Excellente! Nothing quite like the sound of a tiny carby motor being raped in first gear. How hard does it rev? Or do you just crank it as hard as the carby will allow in ignorant tacho-less bliss like me?

Hey hey, all you insane Corolla gurus out there. Should I go cheapo and fit wagon springs from the wreckers to stiffen my KE30's behind? Would it make an appreciable difference? I'm just assuming they would fit. Or should I get Redcliff Springs and Suspension to reset them plus 1 leaf for what is admittedly a very reasonable price?
-
Simple question. Do crossflow heads exist for k motors? And why not?

Man..... That ad encompasses everything I hate about bogans. I bet he thinks he's a car enthusiast. I bet thats what 90% of non-enthusiasts think one is as well (You know, a f@$kwit hoon). However, the upside to the ad is that it proves bogans will always be poor, and therefore powerless in society: some dipshit is going to pay at least $2350 for that heap! (Sorry about the profanity, but that really makes my blood boil)
-
I would have to go with a general dislike of the manual belts. As 90% of the passengers in my car are female, only 1 in 10 passengers can figure out how to work the things themselves (Sorry to the rollaclub girls, but I call it as I see it...). And yeah, trapping the buckle outside the car is pretty ghetto-style. On another note though, dumbasses in MainRoads registered my car as having 5 seats!? But nonetheless, build plate says 4, seatbelts say 4 and power to weight says 4, so I say 4.
-
I agree with Dan. A Gemmy would be the perfect car for you. While I am a faithful rollarist, I find that Corollas have too much cred to truly humiliate the opposition in defeat. And at the risk of being banned forever, they do have a more sophisticated suspension package than the rolla. And with a triple carb 186, would have some get up and go. You could also double your horsepower with a SuperCheap sticker kit, and a fake carbon gear knob. Hehe.

When I did the 'khana the other week, 781JCU the KE30 sedan weighed in at ~860kg, with half a tank of fuel and after jack, spare, etc. had gone back in the boot. Who needs a Lotus Elise? Fook's KE35+4AGE+half cage(I think)-interior came in at about 960kg I think. Personally, I like KE10's, don't like 20's, love 30's, hate 55's, meh 70's, hate T-18's, love hachis. All fwds=meh.

You Know It's Cold When.....
Corolla Test Pilot replied to Rolla__Boy's topic in Automotive Discussion
I'm baaack... Anyway, whats the go with this bullshit cold weather? I'm originally a Bundabergher, so can you imagine my horror when I wake up at 6am to go to uni, and my car has f@$king ice on it!!! Like no shit: lumps of frozen H2O encrusting my car!!! And then the bloody thing wouldn't start, I had to resort to stealing my granny's XD (eeewww....*shudders*). It was cranking at maybe 40rpm, oil mustve been like treacle. Spose that happens when youre car lives on the street.
