  1. Oh great, Rob's bringing out his fast car...
  2. AFAIK if your engine came as factory running unleaded (ie 4AGE), then you have to run a cat. If you run unleaded in an engine that originally ran leaded (ie 4K) I don't think you have to have one.
  3. There's an Autocross at Willowbank this Sunday, and it's also part of the Interclub Challenge round. It's heaps of fun, it's an awesome track, you should all come out and play!
  4. Umm, according to the Palmside page, they sell theirs for NZD2000 fitted? I'd imagine it would be a fair bit cheaper for just parts? *edit* oh yeah, emailed you that gear calculator too
  5. Well, okay, so maybe not cheap, but cheaper than here in Oz anyway. Basically I'm looking for rotary buckle, FIA approved.
  6. Mr Revhead: Price on the gearset? I'm getting rather interested too  Haha, as if I could afford it... *dreams on*
  7. 8. Have been speaking to Andrew Vibert from Central Victorian Auto Parts, he used to rally a JDM TE37 (which has unfortunately now been sold...), he's been rallying that car for a good 8 years now and was the Vic 2WD champion last year so knows a thing or two about rallying Corollas... Anyways, we got to talking about gear ratios (since I'm looking for 4.3 gears), and the topic came up about the gearset from Palmside NZ, and also the gearsets that Albins has, and I mentioned that Rob was thinking of getting the Palmside gears... Anyways, here is some of the conversation (in lots of pieces): He also gave me a gear calculator thingy (Excel spreadsheet) but I have nowhere to put it. Anyway, thought it would be of interest (in particular to Rob)
  9. Just hope you don't get caught then. And if you do, don't be too shocked when you find out how much the fine is.
  10. Haha, I've been out with someone I regard as the King Fisherman and still all I caught was a measly little squid (who also drenched me in black stuff) while him and my brother just kept reeling them fishes in... And then one time I got desperate so I went to a fish farm, where they have a big pond full of fish and is supposed to be a no-brainer definite-catch experience, and 6 hours later I was still with no fish :) I suck at fishing. Maybe I smell
  11. I don't so much mind the fact that they have to be killed (they are, after all, a pest), but I do mind the whacking them around with a golf club thing, esp because a lot of the time all you do is split their bellies and break a few legs, and then leave them to suffer and die...
  12. Hmm, Palmside NZ also sell them rather cheap, NZD409 for Willians 6-point harnesses...
  13. As much as toads are pests, I think whacking them up a golf club is really really cruel. And I don't see why it should be accepted any more than those army people who set those kittens on fire. What, that's bad cause kittens are like cute and stuff? A friend of mine clubbed a toad on one of our camping trips, and it was one of the worst things I've witnessed. Especially since it basically split it's belly, but was still breathing and everything, and they just stood there laughing at it and pointing out bits "oooh there's the heart!" Following which they then proceeded to club it to bits. Poor toad. When I was a kid one of my neighbours was at my house, and a stray kitten wandered in. Just as my brother and I were going to go "oh, it's a little kitten" my neighbour stomped on it's head. It went into spasms and died. We never really ever saw or talked to that neighbour again after that... I dunno, maybe I'm a tree hugging hippy. I just like animals...
  14. Haha, looks like cat is most probably stuffed, yay. Muffler was replaced, and front section of the exhaust was rewelded because the welds had actually cracked and broken, so looks like I had exhaust leaks galore...
  15. It's also the strange sound your head makes when you go over a big hump and you hit the roof. Generally also accompanied by a strangely painful yet numbing feeling at the top of your head, and followed by an exclamation "ow!"
  16. Virtually all of you lost that poll, cause I think all of you thought it would fall apart at Queensland Challenge... And yes, when was the last time you checked how much the fine is for not running a cat? I think I'll just replace mine, thanks.
  17. Hmm, interesting. Called up a shop too see how much the identical harness was here, and it's AUD655. Strange thing is, it's cheaper to buy the 4-point, and then add the crotch strap (comes up to about AUD624). I wonder why... Tried the same trick on DT, came up a fair bit more expensive. Also, I think there are 2 main types of them harnesses - saloon style and single seater style. Main differences appear to be that the single seater style have really short shoulder straps...
  18. It's what happens when the Council decides that you really should slow down, so they put one of those humps in the middle of the road.
  19. Yay, car is finished. Looks like cat converter is also well on it's way out, the guy recons it's really blocked up... Not so good
  20. Am looking at harnesses, at the moment looking at FIA approved 6 point 3 inch ones (it's on the wish list, would like but have no money for) What's the differences between them? Some have T-type crutch straps, others have some loop system, others have moustache style ones... And then some are listed as "saloon" style, others "special stage"... Umm... Also, have noticed that DemonTweeks also sell these for a fair bit less than what you'd get them here for... A Sabelt 6-point, with pads, not inc shipping and tax and duty will set me back AUD230, where's the going rate here in Oz seems to be about $500 or more for a 6-point...
  21. Hmm, and $140 later Fook has a new muffler... I think. Supposed to pick up the car this afternoon... Old muffler was a bit worse than I thought it was...
  22. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaiting for exhaust shop to open... So let's see... What does Fook do? These days, sadly it's all about cars. Cars cars and more cars. Maybe a bit of photography thrown in, but really nto much other than cars. But what else does Fook like to do? Rock climbing. I used to climb a fair bit when I was at uni, and have climbed a fair bit of South East Queensland (inc Brooyar State Forest, Frog Buttress, Glasshouse Mountains, Kangaroo Point, among others), and a fair bit of the Blue Mountains, inc the Three Sisters. I've also climbed in Malaysia. I even have a reasonably large bouldering wall at home, just for some fun  But yes, due to my Honours year at uni, and now cars and work, I haven't had much time to get into climbing... Latin dancing. Used to dance a fair bit, mostly at Casablanca but also at a few other clubs. Haven't done it for a long time now though, and am very very very rusty. Am hoping to get back into this just socially, have even found a female friend who's interested in dancing with me, yay. Inline skating. Used to skate a lot when I was in high school, have done most disciplines inc speed skating, street hockey, street and ramps, but haven't done pipes. Stopped skating when I left high school, have skated just socially maybe half a dozen times since. Very rusty, but skating is like riding a bike, you never really forget the basics. Photography. I like photography, most kinds of photography actually. Am not as into it as Haikal, but I do like it. Hiking, camping, things like that. Yes, I like these too :) Squash. Used to play squash a fair bit in high school, and played for a little bit with some work mates about a year or two ago but haven't really played for awhile now. No, I'm not very good either. Fish. No, not fishing, I hate fishing because I cannot catch anything. I have a fish tank. All my fish died. Well, except for two. Hmm. Running. Used to run a fair bit, used to do mostly middle-long distance stuff. Injured both my knees, can't run anymore. Sailing. Used to sail a fair bit when I was in Malaysia, mostly monohull boats, mostly single or double seater (Laser's and Laser2's) Have sailed a cat once since I got here, don't like it as much as the monohulls... Umm... I think those are the things that I've gotten into lately, or really liked awhile ago.
  23. Oh, haha, after looking at Haikal's photos, I think I know where all my time went... My "apex" to each corner was all like a good 10 meters or more from where it should have been  I think I have a lot to learn about sliding cars through corners... I was like sliding right past the corner, and then coming back and actually doing the corner... :)
  24. And yes, I know, car time, car time... I'll get there one day, if my car decides to survive. It seems to have this knack for breaking things. Had a closer look at the muffler tonight, and it looks like *maybe* it might be salvageable. All the "stuffing" still seems to be in there, so maybe they can just weld a plate over it to seal it, and then re-weld the mount back on...
  25. Maybe I should have phrased that "drove half the course in reverse gear!!!" Has he been taking lessons from Terry Scharf (sp)? :) I recon you should have kept it backwards till you got to the garage, and then reverse flicked it in  And yes it's so very wrong how you can make one mistake, drop ALL the way from the pointy end to the very unpointy end of the field, and then in a matter of 3 tests, make most of that ground back again (and beat me!!!) It's not like I wasn't trying, and makes me think, if you were trying that hard all day, you'd probably have won!!! Your 60% if like my 110%!!!
