  1. Huh? So umm... What is a coilover insert? Secondly, would the AE86 steering knuckles even bolt onto KE20 struts? If not, why bother? If you're going to get it shortened anyway, why not just shorten the KE20 ones?
  2. Actually Jamie, you're wrong on that one. The AE86 power steering arms are shorter - but not by much. I've got a pair in the AE35, hence the marginally quicker (and heavier) steering. *edit* or steering knuckles, or whatever they're called. those things that bolt to the bottom of the strut...
  3. Keep the entries going in guys :P More is merrier!
  4. As you've probably come to realise, some people don't see past engine size and "new sports car". Just the same, some people still think that V8 engines are far superior to anything else. On the same train of thought, among most crowds an Evo8 will probably receive less praise and respect than say... A Porsche Boxter, even though an Evo8 will most definately walk all over the Boxter... But it's not a Porsche. And therefore it sucks.
  5. Oh yes, without a doubt. And yes, familiar with IRA11Y, he has nice brakes :P
  6. split this topic because it has gone WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off topic *edit*: New thead here
  7. I thought we'd gotten over this whole SR20 thing already... In any case, the fact of the matter is that getting an NA motor to give out the same amount of power as a turbo motor, you'll need to be pushing it a lot harder. Not impossible, but given a certain power goal, it'll be a lot harder to build a reliable NA engine that will last, simply because it's running at a lot closer to its peak all the time. FA engines make HUGE power, but they don't last at all. Same with Formula 1 engines, they absolutely scream - but they're really friggin expensive and they don't last at all...
  8. I refuse to even consider taking this "argument" any further.
  9. But then the question has to be asked: why is there anything to prove? Who cares what "they" think? I tell people that I have a 1.6L twincam in my Corolla, and they go "oh." And then I tell them it's a 1975 Corolla and they go "and you're proud of that?". But hey, I go out and have fun in it, that's all that's important. More than half the time given any section of twisty road I'll leave them in my dust... :P
  10. Moving on from SR20's, I think the 3SFE is a much underrated engine. I mean, true it's not quite the same as a 3SGE, but for the difference in price, it seems to be a fairly strong motor... Or maybe I'm just delusional :P
  11. I got mine today. The lady at the counter even remembers my details now (although she constantly has a typo somewhere - today my car is now officially a Carolla) :P
  12. Just because the S13 makes more power given certain mods doesn't make it a "better" engine. With the S15 SR20 they made it a much smoother, more streetable engine, and it has the same, if not higher, potential as an earlier motor - it just needs different mods. Like you said, the S15 motor has more compression than the S13 one. At the end of the day they are different motors. Just the same as the 4G63, the earlier ones were a lot more basic than the later ones, yet they all produce about the same amount of outright power stock. The later ones just have a MUCH bigger power band and are a lot more driveable. To each his own. You probably rate an engine based on how much power you can get. I look at an engine in terms of how dynamic it is, more than how much power I can squeeze out of it.
  13. Don't forget that you'll also need CTP extension.
  14. Backwards? Umm... if you say so... The GTiR SR20DET's were actually quite good, with the quad throttle bodies and all that. As far as I've heard better than the age-equivalent RWD one. The S15 ones are pretty darn cool, but the 6-speed gearbox in them isn't as strong as the 5-speed ones in the S13/14
  15. Yes I think the CA's do bolt in or something. He's had a whole myriad of engines in that car (and I don't think it's ever REALLY been on the road...). He started off with a REALLY worked original engine, and then I think it was a CA18DET, and now it's an SR20DET.
  16. Engine mounts I'm fairly sure he did them himself. Exhaust etc not sure, but they're very nicely done. The car is still in the build process, so not on the road yet...
  17. So datgirl is going to be driving redwarf on sunday then? I take it redatto isn't ready yet...
  18. I would think it would be possible, I have a friend who has an SR20DET in his ET pulsar (making more than 400hp at the wheels apparently... on NOS!!!) You'll want to get motor+gearbox from a FWD car obviously, and then it's a matter of making sure your wheels come out in the right places and making custom mounts for your engine. Apart from that I don't see why it would be really hard. You'd probably need custom driveshafts, but who knows, maybe the pulsar ones will fit...
  19. I was wondering what that was next to the wheel, I thought it was like a wombat or something :P
  20. Is that diff oil?
  21. Can I break my diff too? It's already sounding not-so-good, and if i break it it will be extra incentive to get the new one in :P
  22. Gah, stupid handbrake still no work... Oh well, can't keep throwing money at car, have to put up with it till the other diff goes in...
  23. My entry is going in the mail tomorrow :P
  24. Brisbane airport is... actually very very boring. And small...
  25. Umm... Dono. But they do put L18's in Datto1200's... Like Harry's :P
