Are you still using the cone-shaped lenses over the stock gauges? If so, what happened to the little black nipple on the ends of them? The "before" shot shows them, but the "after" shot doesn't have them...

So 4K owners get free sex? Darn it, I sold my 4K Corolla...
-
They don't even look at the car, they just give you the form, you go "tick tick tick tick, yep all good" and give it back to them and all good :D
-
Self scrutineering. If you believe your car is safe, they believe you. If you have an accident, it's your problem.
-
You only need 1 in the car (so if you get a nav with CAMS licence then you don't need one)

I'd love to do more prep on my car, but I don't have any money so I'm just going to hope that everything holds out... Thanks for the offer anyway :D

Something like that...

From memory Haikal used to be really good. He's very bright and has a good sense of direction. But last night we got lost by the 3rd instruction (he missed the 2nd one), it took him more than 10k's to realise that we were lost and when we were supposed to be in Cannon Hill (the question specifically asked the name of something in Cannon Hill) we ended up in Mt Gravatt. Then he couldn't tell left from right, repeatedly told me to turn right when the instruction said left and vice versa, and then to top it off when we did discover we were lost and decided to just head for the next checkpoint, I pointed out where we were on the UBD, pointed to where we needed to be on the UBD (approx 1 map away, main roads) and even then he couldn't navigate me there. It was only when I saw the signs to get on the city via SE Freeway (at Toohey, we were supposed to be going to Beaudesert) when I went "hang on, give me that map" and then he goes "oh hang on, we were meant to turn back there...". And repeat. Repeatedly. The only thing that got us to the end (very very late) was the UBD (which we supposedly didn't need) and the fact that I sort of knew my way around Brisbane). Queensland Challenge we have none of those aids... Oh gosh I hope it's just nerves and that he'll get better, we seem to have a knack of getting lost within the first 1km...

We will get lost, so we won't finish anyway. I hope the first special test is at the starting venue, and I hope it's fun! Might be the only one we do... (I have such confidence in my navigator...)

Some of you should come out and do the night nav runs run by the Marque Sports Car Club. We did our first one today, and although we got severely lost and we barely finished, it was still fun (haha, the run was supposed to be about 65k's, we did about 110k's and that was skipping a few sections when we couldn't figure out where we were at all). I'll most probably do the next one too (16th July I think), cause at the rate we're going the Queensland Challenge next month is going to be a repeat of the Coastal Challenge this year (ie exclusion from the first nav run because of late time due to completely losing way) But yes, you should come out. It's fun. Get to drive places.

... not quick enough??? In that case... where on earth do I stand??? Well, following on from my own tips, I don't qualify for 1-4, so I guess I'll have to resort to sabotage :D Hey Rob... Do you like Arnotts Shapes? :)
-
Fook's Tips on... How To Win an Event... 1) Get a really quick car. Like not one that is marginally better than the competition, but one that is so much better that it doesn't matter that you can't drive... 2) Get a gun navigator. This will ensure you don't get lost, and that your "really quick car" will still have a chance to obliterate the opposition where it matters. 3) Learn to drive really well. This bit is just too hard... 4) Enter in a class where you are the only competitor If all of the above still don't work, or cannot be achieved: 5) Sabotage the opposition. Arnotts Shapes are a good place to start, broken teeth usually prompt opposing teams to pull out in search of dentist. Most important of all, make sure you enter in a class that doesn't have a Mr :D in it, because even with all of the above chances are you still won't win... ... Hey look, we're all in the same class as Mr Rob... YAY :)
-
Mel: Why don't you drive? Rob: "Oh." Okay, maybe I should like, pretend my car is a pre-68... Or put a turbo on it so I'm not in that class... Or... Just roll over and play dead... :D ... and then there's Craig in PhatDat. That thing should be *seriously fast*... I won't be surprised if it's the quickest car in class...

Darn it, that means you'll be in the same class as me too... More competition!!! :D

Re: Extension free zone: Don't know enough to comment on this, the only HSCCQ events I've done with them have been motorkhanas at QR (which are fully "fenced off") I've never done (or even watched) a khanacross, or autocross, or hillclimb, and I've only done a handful of motorkhanas, and the only events I've done that required 3rd party extension (3 in total) have all been touring road events... But yes, might bring up the issue at one of the upcoming meetings...
-
My entry is already in :D

No no, I fully understand your concern, and as I said before - that was the reason that was given when the topic came up before, and I don't think anyone pursued it any further... Mind you half the time a lot of the things they talk about kinda goes "whoosh" around me :D If I remember I might bring it up again at the next panel meeting, it does seem like a fairly good topic to follow up... As for the HSCCQ motorkhana's, I do agree that those barriers are really more for visual effect than anything else, I think they're more there to tell people to stay outside than to keep the cars inside. And yes, people are regularly told not to sit on the barriers, but then again people tend to not listen. And as far as I can remember I don't remember really having anyone wander through the actual "test area", although yes, people do wander through the "competition area". Mind you, we (the competitors) aren't meant to be doing more than 10km/h in the "competition area" apart from when doing the tests in the "test area"...

Nup, this is a big no-go for this weekend :D HSCCQ offered GCTMC the driver training grounds at Willowbank (or rather, HSCCQ investigated the possibility of using the grounds and got a green light), but looks like they aren't taking up the offer...
-
Mel: Yes, has been brought up at the panel before. The reasoning about the barriers appears to be correct, I would also assume the barriers are regarded as "sufficient" because of the low speeds involved. And yes, as far as I know HSCCQ has consulted with CAMS about the issue, and CAMS has agreed that no 3rd party extension is required because of the above reason. GCTMC couldn't completely surround the competition area, hence the need for the extension. But yes, I do see your point, and I do agree with you about how we wander around outside the shed area, however I suppose it does say in the sup regs that we're meant to only drive around at like 5-10k's outside the "test area" so the chances of injury there isn't too high, plus I think they do say that spectators have to stay behind the barriers? Something like that. All in all, I don't really fully understand the 3rd party extension requirement. For instance the khanacross next weekend, we don't need the extension either. Why? Dunno... Oh well, I'm not doing it anyway, I don't have a car to drive :D

Have split offtopic posts to BWCP Have just heard word that there is a *slim* chance they might actually get venue for this weekend, so all may not be lost!!! Will let you all know as soon as I find out...
-
Yea find out the outside diameter of your struts too in case they are different to the XT130 struts...
-
No, didn't find out anything... Didn't look too hard though.

I'll give Dennis a call when I get home and post up again. Will call or SMS you Mel.
