  1. Yes, they are of extreme relevance. Those coolant pipes heat up the wax-pellet cold idle valve, which when cold opens up a bypass in the throttle body to allow more air into the intake. When the coolant warms up the pellet melts and closes the valve, dropping idle down to normal Connect up those coolant lines, make sure there are no air-bubbles in the system, adjust cold idle to ~2000rpm (which should equal warm idle of about 900), and then get back to us if there is still a problem.
  2. None of those engines you'll get in Australian-delivered Celicas. 5th and 6th Gens either came out with 5SFE (ST184, ST204) or 3SGTE (ST185, ST205), and the only ADM 3SGE Celica is the ST162 SX.
  3. NA Celicas (except supposedly some of the last ST202s) have S-series boxes, not E-series. E-series (in various forms) came out in supercharged Corollas and MR2s (with the 4AGZE), turbo Celicas (ST165/185/205 with the AWD) and V6 Camrys.
  4. It'd be a rare find if it was. Ironically, I'd be more interested in that than a 4AFE conversion :P
  5. If it's the same as yours, EFI and ADM then it will be a Twincam (or at least the engine is). The only EFI AE8Xs sold in Aus were all 4AGE Twincams, it wasn't until the AE92s that a non-4AGE EFI Corolla came here.
  6. 3ZR does but it is way too new, plus not exactly a performance motor.
  7. Trying to work out what that engine is.....doesn't look like any Toyota 4 that I know of, especially with the alternator where it is They didn't, it was a failed attempt by racer Andy Rouse at a factory-approved entry but basically fell though
  8. I find the backronym (and yes, it is a backronym, as the term does not originate from the acronym) to be quite inaccurate actually. What most people call Rice I think would never even gone close to being applied on a race-car. Last time I checked, race cars don't run 19" chromies and mufflers you can fit your head in (they generally don't run mufflers at all actually). Now I know some people will point out the I and the C (Inspired and Cosmetic, in that they aren't supposed to be real racing components but just in the style), but I think most people will agree that there's nothing Racey about them and they certainly aren't Enhancements.
  9. That's the one and to put this thread back on topic WGMG - finishing my case of Singe Batch Brown and not having another to follow it :P
  10. LC do limited release batches, they change the style every time so you need to grab them quickly. The most recent one was a Brown Ale, I've been having a hankering for Newcastle Brown for ages now, and my local bottle-o is ordering some in but pointed out the Single Batch as an interim...needless to say it didn't last long enough :P LC should have a list on their website of bottle-shops that stock it, not sure if they've finished this batch and gone onto the next one though.
  11. That idle valve is only for cold starts though isn't it? Don't think it really plays much part once the car is actually running, although I could be wrong.
  12. I'd drink to that And by Peroni, do you mean the pale lager Peroni or the premium Nastro Azzuro (the variant which is commonly available in Australia)? Since I have never actually seen the beer Peroni on sale in Australia, the name links to Nastro Azzuro instead (as Peroni is the name of the company too).
  13. What is your idle speed when the car is cold? 4AGEs have a very high cold-idle (about 2000rpm), and is someone who doesn't know the engine has thought that that is too high they could have adjusted it to what they thought was a more reasonable level (like 1300), however this would cause the warm-idle speed to tank through the floor and make it very easy to stall.
  14. Because the power is so high the car must be awesome Anyone else remember the SAAB Viggen? 160-odd kw FWD turbo rocket that threatened to throw you off the road with torque-steer if you even thought about LOOKING at the throttle, so much so that the Australian launch was in the Northern Territory where there wasn't a single corner for 100km.
  15. I've always known that hachi roku is eight-six, but I figure that since it is a nick-name based off the two digits present in the chassis code of the car (not even the actual name of the car, it's not a Toyota AE86 for instance, it's a Toyota Levin or Toyota Sprinter/Sprinter Trueno), and thus does not have to follow absolute naming convention. It also seems to be the only model in the Toyota line-up that follows that particular popular naming trend, although it is fairly common for cars to have obscure nicknames in Japan - the C10 Skylines were called Hakosuka which was a contraction of Box Skyline (Hako Sukairain), and the C110 Skylines were Kenmeri after the couple in the ad campaign (Ken and Mary).
  16. Yes, I drink wine. I also drink beer, rum, vodka, bourbon, whiskey, whisky, mead, port, sherry and many other spirits. XXXX is one of the aforementioned craptastic local beers. Most mainstream Australian beers are so bland and inoffensive that they can barely be called beer - that and they are served at a near-freezing temperature to kill any remaining flavour that might have snuck through the manufacturing process. As for Corona, I like to quote several embittered beer/wine critics who argue that the wedge of lemon/lime shoved down the throat of the bottle is the only semblence of flavour. It is a beer so utterly bland and innoccuous that people must only be drinking it for image purposes rather than actual taste. Trust me, you don't need to educate me about good local beers. In fact, I've just finished off a case of Little Creatures Single Batch Brown. As far as I am aware, Corona is still brewed and bottled in Mexico. That, and you can't really have beer "syrup", it's not like it's Coke or cordial. Fairly sure I remember urban legends/myths in relation to the lemon wedge referring to the reason behind their use is that the acid in the lemon juice kills any bacteria that might be present from poor quality water, which ignores the fact that during production the water used is thoroughly boiled anyway.
  17. In comparison to an actually good beer, both are absolute crap. Even amongst mainstream Australian offerings they are absolute crap.
  18. Must be school holidays again... Gee, you're going to go far in this world
  19. In NSW they tend to be Sprinters instead of Vitos.
  20. You DO realise that he was joking, thus making you look even more like an idiot...
  21. Yeah I know, and I was justifying the use of a "Daihatsu" engine.
  22. Remember these days Daihatsu IS Toyota. The Aygo uses a 1.0L Daihatsu engine in the first place (1KR-FE, same as the Sirion and Charade). I'd be guessing they'd be using the 3SZ-VE out of the Materia/Toyota bB.
  23. WGMG - my descent into the seventh level of Hell as this project decides to throw another major curve-ball my way.......just found out that the mainframe model from which we were basing the entire new build was modelled in India, and can't be relied to be any more accurate than a blind man pitching a baseball left-handed. I have a severe temptation to build the whole thing up from scratch myself, but I intend on leaving this office this afternoon rather than sometime next century
  24. Except that the First Home Owners Grant was introduced by the Howard government back in 2000. Labor simply gave it a boost when the GFC hit.
