The cannon sounded awesome on my old KE55. Then again, it was only a small cannon. Then again, it also was the only form of noise control in the entire exhaust (straight pipe ftw :bash:). Looked and sounded like a rally car, pity it didn't go like one.

A resonator is not a muffler. Most cars have at least two mufflers in the system, the first one (usually just after the cat) often gets replaced (but not always) in an aftermarket system with a resonator/hotdog, but some systems keep it.

Territory's brakes didn't fail did they? :bash:

I hate it when Thursdays feel like Fridays....you get halfway through the day and then the realisation hits. The rest of the day then really sucks major hairy donkey balls.

Lane Cove National Park Bbq Meet N Greet

Interested, but every time I go somewhere with a bbq I get roped into cooking..... Should make sure I turn up late then :bash: -
Might have gotten confused then, but it was a front bar off something else in the E9x family and it wasn't a direct fit, especially something to do with the gap between the bar and the headlights.

JDM front end. Plenty of info on here if you use the SEARCH button located in the top right of your screen.

It's posts like this that make me consider adding you to my "ignore" list. You're worse than a 12-year-old arguing about whether Nintendo is better than Sony. Accept the fact that some people like Falcons. Some people like Nissans. Some people like Toyotas. And some people like all 3. They all have redeeming qualities, and they all have their fare share of pitfalls and downsides. Now grow the f@$k up.

3k-u Anyone? Does This Exist Or Have I Stuffed Up?
Hiro Protagonist replied to ke30dude's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Maybe, either way it's not like you've stumbled across a 137E/"3K-R". -
I've seen a Levin front bar on an AE92 Seca, but not lights/guard/bonnet. And from what I can remember, there was a bit of effort getting the bar alone to fit.

Yes you are reading the label right, it is a 3K-U. In Toyota-speak, U in the right-hand side of an engine code refers to Japanese emissions-spec, as opposed to the C for California that most Australian ones get. Nothing to write home really from what I remember, most likely just different vacuum hoses et al, I'll have a look in my K-series engine manual when I get home and see what it mentions You'll see it also in things like 2TGEU and 18RGEU, most of which have arrived on our shores from Japanese imports. -

The "omg Guess What Happened Today" Thread

The other day I finally found out what those little circle thingies are on the side skirts of BMWs etc.....all this time I thought they were parking sensors, gutter lights, all sorts of things, never once guessed that they were jacking points... I guess there was something good about The Transporter after all..... -
When in doubt, never ever take anything on April 1 seriously, especially webpages. Take a deep breath, down a chill pill, and realise that you've been had. Then, wait a few hours, maybe till the next morning, and almost certainly everything will be back to normal.

WGMG (it does every day, but today it's worse than each) - the drawing register and how my work controls drawing updates/revisions etc. It shits me to tears sometimes how poorly it has been set up, but the problem is that we're so far into this project that now is not the time to change it, or even considering changing it. Start afresh with the next major vehicle project maybe, if I push it hard enough _AND_ get lucky, but I doubt it.

Cool Numberplate Sightings
Hiro Protagonist replied to corolla_nut's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Turning into the industrial estate on the way to work, saw H4CK3R on a stock black SV6/8 VZ Commodore, which is strange because it's a completely custom plate (doesn't follow standard 3-3 or 3-2-1 guidelines) but made to look like one. Then, just around the corner, what appeared to be BLU84D (Bluebird) on a slammed/kitted old Datsun Bluebird, probably a drift car. -
Considering that I can make the noise when not moving, I know it's not anything driveline or suspension related... And out of the few exhaust hangers there are, none of them are broken or loose - the exhaust itself is nice and secure.

AM? You mean wireless, they didn't need a distinction back in those days, back when Bakelite was all the rage

That's what I've been doing, one by one. Only had enough time to do the middle one on the weekend though

Negative Education (ie showing all the bad things that can happen) in this sense doesn't work, because it won't actually educate most of the target group. Hoons will shrug off seeing dead bodies as "nah that won't happen to me", and seminars just bore them (within 5 minutes they'll have their mobiles or iPods out). Positive Education (advanced driver days, advice from professionals whom the hoons respect) works a lot better - put people on a skid pan and show how reducing speed a bit makes a car much more controllable in an accident situation. As you said, it won't make everyone a better driver, and some of them will think they can go faster, but which would you prefer - a hoon who doesn't know how to control his car, or one that does? And then there's the "right place and time" bit. Give people a place to vent their testosterone that is easily affordable and available, and they'll be less likely to do it on the open road. One of the reasons why I find it stupid that places like Oran Park are closing, why DAs like Ringwood's 1/4 mile and road coarse are knocked back, and why it was such an effort to get Lakeside back in limited/restricted action. Newcastle has been much the worse ever since the speedway/skidpan closed down at Tomago, and a facility like Ringwood would do wonders, even if it is half an hour out of town. The next nearest legal place is WSID, and thats over 2 hours away. And if you don't like Eastern Creek, then Wakefield is basically the only other option in the entire state.

Just wait 'till WA get it, they're still listening to Elvis.

Can't imagine it being anything else rattling, apart from something internal in the exhaust (and heat shields are easier to take off and put back on). I'll be kicking myself if it actually is the number plate though, I've got my doubts again. Either way, it sounds _exactly_ like thin steel sheet vibrating, I could replicate the noise exactly by tapping the middle heat shield (which is why I removed it, because I thought it was the cause)
-
You have to have reasoning behind it though From the RTA site A limited exemption from the prohibited vehicle condition may be granted if: * A prohibited vehicle needs to be driven for genuine employment purposes. * Eight or more cylinder 4WD vehicles are required by country drivers who have no practical alternative. * You can prove direct ownership of a prohibited vehicle prior to the start of the scheme or before an overseas/interstate licence transfer. * The vehicle is a moderate-performance turbo/supercharged engine vehicle. Loopholes will always be found, but do you reckon it's better that there is at least some kind of application process.

There are three heatshields between the exhaust and the transmission tunnel (well it's not a transmission tunnel because it's FWD, obviously), the rear is separate from the front two. I have removed the middle one, which goes over the hotdog, the one in front goes over the cat and part of the engine pipe - this is the only other one I can imagine would be vibrating. The cat itselt has a heatshield on the lower side of it, not sure if there's another one on top of it as well as the tunnel one. There aren't any between the exhaust and the ground apart from the cat, and don't think there have ever been. And there are definitely hardlines of some kind directly above the exhaust, no idea whether they are brakes, fuel or handbrake cables (I could feel them but not hear them). That's the exhaust heat shields, I've removed 58153, 58151 goes over the cat EDIT: And judging by this, they're brake lines.....hmmm, don't like the idea of heating my brake fluid, even if it's in a hardline
