ok, after a long absence i finally have an update on the progress of the wagz... since my last post i fixed the noise coming from my new rear end, it turned out to be the wheel bearings were stuffed, had to use the oxy set to heat up the housing to free them but its all good now. i have also painted the engine bay white instead of matte black so everything stands out a bit more and i have fitted the new donk. so far i have done 500km's in it so i think that its just about run in now, motor seems to be fairly strong, got a nice lumpy idle and revs nice and free, cam starts to do its thing at around 4000 rpm but the SU's need some different profile needles because its lacking fuel at the top end. so far ive had it out to 7000 rpm and it sounds awsome. i have also removed the coilover suspension and r31 skyline brakes from the front of the car. the main reason why i did it was because i didnt like how low it sat (i hate going through regency) and i bought some rims that wouldnt fit over the brakes so they had to go. i currently have some stock ke55 struts in the front with new pads and rotors (brembo ftw) but it needs some lowered springs to get the car level again. at the moment in needs a new sump gasket because the f@$ker is leaking and as of last week it also needs a new manifold gasket because that shat itself. i think the manifold gasket blew because the face of the extractors isnt flat, i have a new single peice jobbie here but i think that i may machine the face before i fit it. the sump is leaking because the gasket seemed to be to big when i put it on, i use sealant on both sides but its rooted so I'm pulling the motor out to fix it. anywho here are som pics of the motor in the car and the new wheels i fixed up for the car

Ive just been trying to install some stock fron struts in the front of my KE38 which i got fron a KE55 coupe Now what is currently in there is R31 brakes with coilovers and some unkown steering arms and i think the tie rods are different too? Would any one be able to tell me what is actually been changed so i know what to get? Once again an easy job has turned into a nightmare because of buying a previously modified car. here are some photos..... Cheers for your help in advance

i got one of those exedy clutches in my wagon now, not bad but not as nasty as i would have liked. I had an Extreme Ceramic 5 Puck clutch in one of my rx7's which was an awsome bit of gear. probly overkill for a stock 12a but 3rd and 4th gear chirpys are awsome

Do Ke70 struts bolt straight into a KE38 (KE55) without any modification? I'm after a definant answer before i go out and get some. At the moment i have Coilovers with R31 brakes and I'm not really a fan of the ride height and the hardness so i want to go back to standard type struts. Also i have 13 inch mags that i want to run so need smaller brakes (yeah i know it sounds strange) Cheers for all your help in advance Matthew

Youre from SA Right ? Give Toyoland, Lonsdale, a call and see what they can do for you. When i changed my ke35 to manual it was $175 for the whole lot. 4spd, flywheel, clutch, pedal box, interior trim, tailshaft and all comes with 3 month replacement waranty. I did buy a new thrust bearing and spiggot bearing, but they are only 10 to 20 at cbc bearings

Use the VHT engine paint. Not cheap but it will last for years. When youve got the charger on the car i wouldnt mind seeing it in person. Thinking of doing the same thing but i want to see one up close

Manifold is a lynx jobbie. I got the whole lot of ebay a while back. Got new carpet for the car now (upullit special) and a new steering wheel, so the interior is starting to become liveable. I'm after a new front bar, so if anyone has one in adelaide please let me know.

Bit of an update. Got the new rear end in the car and made the leaf springs look a bit nicer. (i put the clamps back around the spring packs so they look nicer) Still have a horrible noise coming from the rear end. Could be wheel bearings, pinion bearing(i *** hope not) or posibly tailshaft. Finally got the flywheel and new clutch on the motor so it is now officially ready to go in. THe clutch i got is a heavy duty exedy jobbie which should hopefully take the the abuse. And as of this afternoon the car has no motor. Me and my bro ripped out the 4k-you that has been running on 3 pots (still got a bit of grunt on 3) so that we can pait the engine bay white before the motor go's in. Oh yeah look at the twin 4k powered wheelbarrows.....

Shit, Cruising Rundell and Hindley street, havent done that fo years. Awsome 2 door mate, looks tuff

First off, i don't have a strut brace yet. I wanted to know before i payed out for one. My brother has measured both cars now and the ke70 is around 30mm wider than the ke38

Thanks for the info guys. i will have to go and suss it out now
-
Thanks for the info guys. Shame about the shitty hub rotor combo but they are bigger and they do work well even though they are worn out. At least i know what I'm looking at now. Parts should be cheap enough. So does this mean that i have a combo of r31 and corolla struts? It does have a coilover kit fitted. My other problem with these struts are that it has to much lock on the wheels. The tires can rub on the inner gaurds and on the swaybar Any ideas

If you could Trev it would be awsome. Got me stuffed

Been there, done that, trying something different to the rest of the forum

oh and myles most of my su linkage setup is custom but i am going to redo it becuse it has to much flex. you have to make linkages like the ones i have so that the accelertor cable doesnt hit on the rocker cover.

yeah it needs a lot of love. Got rear end sorted now just have to work on the front brakes and springs and should be good.

After watching this car on the forum for ages, and looking at countless peices of overpriced crap i finally decided to go have a look a haydo's KE38 down at victor harbour. After the long drive down there i decided to buy the car because of all the added goodies it came with such as coilovers, brake upgrade, weber, extractors, 5 speed and exhaust. When i got the car it had just dropped a valve, so the 4k-U was running like crap (i later worked out that it was only running on 2!), so it was a slow drive home in the hot weather for my little bro while i sat in my airconditoned armchair (Aristo). The body work isnt to bad on this car, but the paint isnt that flash so it needs a serious rub back and anouther coat of clear layed on after, also the coilovers are to low and can't be wound up any further because of short springs. Motor wise the 4k-u was running on 2 because a f@$ked spark plug in number 3 and it has a burnt exhaust valve in number 1 so the head has to come off for a recon. The car is running a KE70 5 speed which has a noisy thrust bearing, the diff is just about ready to explode because of excesive backlash and noisy wheel bearings. So i have bit of work to do but it is a project afterall. The main reason i bought the car is because i have been building up a slightly warmed 4k for a bit of fun. Specs are... Ke70 4k-c Twin 1 1/2inch SU carbys Waggot 212 reground camshaft 40thou overbore with ACL pistons and rings new bottom end bearings new camshaft bearings full reconditioned head valve grind Crow double valve springs lightend flywheel the block was decked and the head has been shaved so comp ratio should be around the 10:1 mark now so it should get off its ass fairly well. Today i spent preping a new rear end to go into the car with a 4.3:1 ratio centre for a bit more acceleration hopefully it will be in durring the week then i will fix the brakes on the front which i have no idea what they are from and look into getting some longer springs for some adjustablility. here are some pics.....

We'll have to see how it goes. If its shit then i will just get anouther one ground. Its no biggy just $135. Like i said the guy who ground the cam for me said that it is a good all round cam, so at the moment i will take his word for it.
-
Not really. I am hoping to get into motorkhana events which is all high revs in 1st gear, but apart from that i might try some circuit sprints, maybe even drag racing but it will generally be used on the weekends for a bit of spirited driving through the Hills
-
Felix, do you know what the acctual valve lift specs are because i can't really remember what he told me they were.
-
The Compression ration should be around the 10:1 mark now. At the moment i havent done anything to the head yet. Just got it reconditioned with double valve springs. I'm not sure about the extractors yet. I talked to the guy about this cam for ages and he said that the put one in an internally stock 4k with a 32/36 weber and it went fairly well. More torque and more power down low with the abillity to rev to 8g. Sounds good to me. If i have to get anouther cam ground i will because it aint that expensive. This motor is only going in a weekend car so drivabillity doesnt really mater that much. And to answer your question felix if you turn off of main north road onto (can't remeber the name of the street) go to the round about and turn right, then he is up charlotte street about 200m on the left. He is all the way down the back of a car park in with a Motor mechanic of some sort. Just look for the sign
