  1. Yep that will make it slip every time when half of it is at the bottom of the bellhousing. I used to use a long pencil to line the plate up. I could not be bothered fiddling around with the proper tool.
  2. Thats great news on the job front. I'm just thinking of all the toyota info you might be able to get access to in that big arse toyota database.
  3. Thats the other way i used to do it if someone else was using the floor jack ...if u can bench press 30kgs you can install a k gearbox.
  4. You can do it in even less time if you use an air wrench and rattle gun.
  5. In the days before work place health and safety I used to jack the car up on the passanger side undo all the gearbox bolts on that side....drop the jack...do the same to the drivers side...drop the tail shaft at the diff....take the gear shifter out....put the floor jack under the gearboxfor support.....jack the passanger side up again....raise the floor jack up to suite....slide the gearbox backwards enough to get at the clutch... swap it out ...do the reverse to put it back together and away you go a couple of hours and not a drop of oil drained or spilt. Now I did say pre WHS...
  6. I agree that you can swap out a clutch without machining the flywheel with no dramas. I used to do 2 a day at the import shop. But today if you don't machine the flywheel you void the warranty on the clutch kit. And they ask for proof of machining when you make a claim. It happenend to a work mate of mine recently.
  7. Hey Banjo thanks for the offer I will see what Steve comes back with and let you know how I go. I went to Underwood Jaycar yesterday as it was the only local store that had any in stock when I got there the stock they had was 1 and someone had reserved it. They do have a new improved model at $55. So when I get the dizzy organised I will look into the ignition further. I don't want it to get bigger than ben hur.
  8. I spoke to Steve at robroy yesterday and more than likely he has a kit suitable for the Bosch dizzy. I just have to send him some pics to confirm the layout. So watch this space.
  9. This exact problem happened to me many years ago but it happened when I planted my foot to do an overtake of an old bus up a long hill. I got past it just, then limped it home. It ended up being the pressure plate losing tension in the fingers. It literally happened in the blink of an eye.
  10. That last post was six and a half years ago. You might have a better chance of a response if you pm the guy.
  11. When I say plug and play I mean without having to go to too much modifying of other bits and pieces. Is it as simple as ripping out the points and condenser installing the module in the dizzy a bit of wiring hit the key and do the timing? I just need it to be reliable so i don't keep getting the midnight breakdown calls...oh and for her safety as well...lol
  12. Ok so the long and short of it is...it is as simple as i want it to be at a relatively cheap price.....as long as it will be plug and play. I will do my research on the bits I have and speak to the boys at robroy and see if it will be available for the bosch dizzy. I have a new set of points i will throw in tomoz to make do until I get the show on the road. I am sure i will have questions so watch this space. Thanks for the advice.
  13. Thanks for advice boys it seems simpler than I had expected. Do they make them for the Bosch dizzy coz that is what she has. I have a standard timing light is that going to be compatible with this set up?
  14. Ok so the Princess' rolla blasted another set of points while she was sitting in traffic on her way home. It hiccuped and died. So I got the call and did a quick road side tune up and she limped home. Question 1. Why does this happen? she is on her second set of points in 6 months. Question 2. Is there an electronic dizzy swap that has limited mucking around for installation and what is the approximate cost? We are talking 4k engine.
  15. Hey rolla crew So the Princess comes home from work yesterday evening and says that when she puts the car in reverse it starts to vibrate a bit that is the whole car shakes. So I jump in and sure enough it vibrates in reverse. I couldn't see much in the dark so I have had a look this morning. Checked the oil level all good. Climbed all over it when it was in reverse and vibrating but nothing jumps out as a problem. It does it the worst when it is stationary but still does it when rolling but not as bad. I am baffled. It is a BW trimatic. Any insights would be appreciated.
  16. If you look on that sheet you will see that the engine is supposed to be an 1.1 litre the 3k is a 1.2 litre. There is a bunch of info on Wikipedia that describes the k series engines from go to whoa. I'm sure there is a record of your engine number that you can reference for size. Does the engine number match the engine number in the owners manual. Typically the cars details are written down in that book on purchase.
  17. My understanding is that sprinters came out with the 3K B engine that had twin carbies with the water cooled manifold and the big port head. If you bought it from the original owner did it not come with the glove box hand books they are like a time capsule of information specific to the car. I am sure someone on here will be able to give you a definitive answer or point you in the right direction.
  18. As a matter of fact i did thanks. But not until i whipped up this handy bit of gear. It took me about a half an hour make and no time at all to get the bolt off. Only to find my harmonic balancer puller missing from the shed. So i have one on order coz that bastard Mr Nobody has borrowed it and moved interstate. I was thinking of putting a patent on my little gizmo but I'm sure it exists out in the world. And I know it works in both directions.
  19. The metal mice have had a field day chewing on that guard it might be easier and faster to get a good replacement one. As a whole looks like she isnt in too bad shape good luck look forward to see your progress.
  20. I do have a rattle gun and an air wrench. Didn't even then about that, it's been a big week.
  21. I thought of jambing the ring gear but there are no access points that i can see on the auto to get to it didn't really want to pull the starter motor out.
  22. OK so what I thought would be a simple task is turning out yo not be. I have to change out the crankshaft pulley on the Princess' ke55 for the last part of the AC installation. But for the life of me i can't remember how we used to stop the pulley turning when cracking the bolt. In my head I thought just put it in gear. Its an auto. I need to get this sorted in a hurry coz theres not much worse than a hot and sweaty teen rolla Princess.
  23. She hasn't spent a day of her life in the barn. So sad.
  24. Maybe while your down the Goldie you could go pick up the complete ke10 for sale at Burleigh Heads for $1200 on gumtree.
