  1. The values measured across the battery mean the battery is healthy but also that the alternator is charging that is the 14.45 volts value....have u checked the dssh light since u cleaned up that connection?
  2. So now you will be the 'GO TO Guy' for all of our Weber questions and problems.
  3. The twin carby manifolds of the 3kb engines were water cooled and from memory are in the area you are talking about Bango.
  4. What a freaky cool car. Like a jap version of the gremlin. Pop the dizzy cap and check you have a decent points gap. It should be .45 mm. The rubbing block can wear down at an unpreditable rate at times.
  5. You could have a dodgy brake booster. U can check it with the engine running and the hand brake on. Push the brake pedal down you may air hissing or gurggling from under the dash on the drivers side. If it has an air leak it will cause the car to stall. I had this problem with the Princess' hardtop I had it rebuilt and $200 later she was running like new.
  6. Hearing your description of that induction sound of Webers on a 2TG brings back fond memories of my TA22 Celica. There is nothing quite like it.....it is almost erotic.
  7. Crisis averted. I finally got a chance to look at the latch in daylight. The mechanism had just jammed. So a splash of lube and away she went good as new. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  8. So i may have been a little hasty with my broken cable diagnosis and i found out the hard way. The Princess went out last night no big deal. Until I get a call at 10.30 saying my car wont start the battery is flat. So jumper leads in hand off i go into the night. half way there i remembered the bonnet wont pop. So I get there and have to pull the whole latch mechanism off to get the bonnet up. Having a closer look at the cable it appears intact so I will have to check it out in daylight and not on the side of the road. I will let you guys know what I find. Stay tuned.
  9. Hey Banjo It is right at the end of the cable as far as I can see. If you have one you are willing to part with that would be great. I was gonna give Adrian a call tomorrow to see if he had one. I know he is thining out his collection. Fingers crossed.
  10. So disaster has struck the Princess' rolla I have been doing bits and pieces in preparation for the AC system install and over the weekend I had the grille out working out where the evap coil is gonna go. The Princess had to hurry off to some royal function so I didnt get a chance to put it back in much to her disgust. After a written warning from her this arvo I went to reinstall said grille. So I pulled on the bonnet catch lever and nothing, another and another still nothing I start to panic coz she is not gonna be happy. Upon closer inspection the cable has broken at the latch. So my question to you my learned Proffessors of Rollaology is there a substitute cable as i can only imagine how hard it is gonna be to track one down. Maybe the enchanted forest again. Any advice would be appreciated. Looking on the bright side at least the grille is out so its easy to get at the latch and cable end.
  11. So in my experience you start raising the viscosity of your engine oil as the moving parts of your engine start to wear it stops oil burn and that awful K series rattle. However if you raise the viscosity of the oil and then keep it cooler than normal operating temperature the poor old oil pump is gonna have a hard time pushing the oil around as it is thicker and heavier than it can handle which in turn will lead to other rotating parts to starve of oil and they might prematurely fail. Just another train of thought.
  12. Could the reason the steering has been changed in the first place is to provide clearances for the bigger 3t engine?Just an idea.
  13. Are they in the same aisle as hens teeth....
  14. Oh my look how much she has grown since the first pic you posted. It is the Princess' 18th this weekend it seems not so long ago she was only that small. Enjoy this age...before they can talk back. Hahha.
  15. Having one AE86 is cool enough but two thats just plain greedy. And to be using it as a daily hack that is just a sin. I wonder how many are hanging around in barnes forgotten and unloved in Australia.
  16. Buy your car. Get the best possible tech manual ( genuine Toyota are really helpful). Drive her around for a while and identify the stuff that needs to be done. Read about it and then have a crack at fixing it. I like the adage " if it aint broke don't touch it." Then decide what direction you want to go, be it daily drive, mild or wild street weapon or full blown race car. Above all take your time and enjoy the rolla experience.
  17. Hey Banjo I have a list of the lengths and size (10mm) from the install manual which has been super handy to work from. When I was at the Happiest Place On Earth (Bunnings) I grabbed some M10 bolts "with a metric thread" to get me started only to find the pitch was 1.5 and it seems after checking with my thread gauge that that our honourable friends at Toyota enjoy using a 1.25 pitch. So I don't know how available over the counter at the auto shops they will be. I am going to check at some bolt shops today. If I get desperate for some I will let you know. Thanks for your help.
  18. So just a quick question. I am off to get some bolts to start the AC installation on the Princess' rolla and just want to confirm that the bolts used by Toyota are 1.25mm thread pitch. What would be the best type of bolt to use for attaching the AC bracket to the block.
  19. Check out the compliance plate mounted on the firewall. It will give you all the info you need to move forward with maintenance repairs and any plans you have for the car. 3k and 4k engines are interchangeable as are the 4 speed 5 speed and auto gear boxes that they came off the assembly line with. Welcome to the wonderful world of rollas.
  20. You guys are scaring me. No more ICE. What are we gonna do. I will tell you what we are gonna do we will find the biggest electric motor and shoe horn it into our rollas and stuff the boot full of batteries. And we are gonna keep on rollering. Old rollas forever! !
  21. Aaaah the sweet sound of success. That must be music to your ears. She just keeps getting better.
  22. Ok so it has finally happened I have managed to get hold of a "complete" ac system for the Princess' rolla. When I say "complete" it was "yeah mate its all there" on the phone, "except for the compressor bracket" when I travel 75 kms and land on site. So what I need from you my Corolla Comrades is this. 1. Does anyone out there have a suitable bracket for said compressor. That they are willing to part with. 2. Does anyone have diagrams or instructions for the installation of the system. 3. Can anyone tell me if in their infinite wisdom did Toyota prewire Ke55s for the ac installation. 4. Are there any decent pics of an ac system that i might be able to use for installation purposes. Coz at the moment its a giant mechanical jigsaw puzzle in a bunch of crates. All help is greatly appreciated and is going to a worthy cause. Of making me the best Dad ever!!!
  23. Price? Condition? Location? Pics?
  24. As the car runs after you put fuel into the carby the problem could be in the start and idle circuit. Take the top off the air cleaner and look down the carby manually rotate the throttle. There should be a solid stream of fuel coming into the carby. If not your idle jet could be blocked or the accelerator pump is not forcing fuel through the carby. The other option could be the fuel shut off solenoid is not functioning and wont let the fuel into the start circuit. To test it disconnect the single wire unscrew the unit from the carby body. Touch the wire on the positive terminal of the battery and the body of the unit to ground you should see the plunger of the solenoid move in and out as you make and break the contacts there should be an audible click as it operates. If the unit doesn't work swap it out and see how you go.
