the ribs are between the 3 welsh plugs and above them on springers block, the raised part of the casting.

Hmm it is what i was thinking about, there is a way but i only did it to my spare parts car... Get multigrips and put over the rubber protection thingy to hold it still and tighten away or would it be possible to get a trolley jack or a piece of wood and put it under the LCA and hit the steering arm with a hammer so it goes on properly?? Just putting up idea's

If i remember rightly, i had the same problem. Get an old rag or masking tape, and rap the shit out of the bolt's thread, then get your trusty vicegrips and put them on tightly (over the masking tape so it dosn't damage your thread). get your open ender or ringspanner (preffered) and the peice of tube/cardboard, get someone to hold the vicegrips whilst you tighten the nut :hmm: :no2:

4k Bottom End 3/4k Head Rebuild
toyota_ae71 replied to springersrolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
hey, Go the 4k head, shaved and what not. Better rocker gear, and bigger valves (i think) + the 4k isn't as old as the 3k so water galleries shouldn't be as corroded, thats if its a low kay 4k. And yes you could get it decked/shaved to the 3k specs. But miaswell go a lil more :hmm: -
S13 Brakes And Calipers On Ke70 Struts?
toyota_ae71 replied to toyota_ae71's topic in Automotive Discussion
Nah, i was only looking to upgrade the brakes if possible. No point to me spending that much on a silvia front end just for khanacross/autocross. Going to wreckers some time this week to see how much they want for some xt130 struts and might see what sigma's they have for that extra camber. -
This thing is awesome as, makes me want to buy the one at my local wreckers :) With the positive camber issue on the front, it will get rid of most of it when you lower the car, say around an inch and a half itd be completey gone. Its only +1 camber according to my haynes manual.

S13 Brakes And Calipers On Ke70 Struts?
toyota_ae71 replied to toyota_ae71's topic in Automotive Discussion
for what reason? I could prob make up an adapter fo the calipers.... or would it make more sense getting corona struts etc? -
Hey, Just found some cheap s13 rotors and calipers. Would the rotors be a straight bolt on job? And by fluke do the calipers bolt up? Cheers

hahaha i f@©king hate steering arms with a pashion. one word of advise don't use a 8kg sledge hammer!!! It bends shit. Take medicine mans advise! It will/does eventually work.

HAHA yeah i wasted my $40 on spring compressors just to get my standards out, i replaced them with cut ef's... uncaptiveness, before anyone says anything they are in my rally car very well zipp tied in :P
-
done this soooo many times, you DO NOT need a rattle gun. Firstly mount the spring compressors opposite each other on the spring, Then put the strut into the vice horizontily and firmly put the vicegrips on to the strut top. Get somone to hold the vice grips or if your vice isn't too high lean them up againt the table that the vice is mounted to. Then get your trusty breaker bar or ratchet with about a meter of exhaust tube or something for extra leverage. Then WOLA... works for me everytime. :P

yeah my house lol, had a bag of ice in the freezer for about a year now. no idea where you'd get it from, sound deadener isnt that hard to get out without it.

Thanks a HEAP for all of your info people. So ive been searching around, vn series 2 sounds like the way to go. Theres a ke70 on ebay at the moment with a series 1 or 2 auto in it. Also seeing as tho the commodore and falcon manual gearboxes are both "t5's" does anyone know if it's possible to get a falcon t5 and change the bell housing to a commodore one?? A mate has 2 or 3 manual EA to ED falcons at his place. Also found a v6 powered ke70 "track car" on youtube that seems to steer pretty good. V6 ke70 video
-
yeah I'm alright at welding... if i get stuck i have a couple of engineers I'm friends with close by. from what i have been thinking, a vn-vs damaged commodore goes for around $200-$800 so if i bought a complete car and just throw it all into the kesev id be pretty much set, even a diff if the standard locked borgie can't take it. Thats 140ish killawasps pretty cheap. I'm ONLY considering doing the v6 conversion as i have heard that it wasn't very heavy for a v6, as its all alloy.
-
el-ef xr6 motors are quite cheap + my mate has one in his shop that he would sell for nothing. ford xr series are ALL straight 6's and i said carby because its easier to work with and a 500 holley would cover it pretty well. And its always being done for speedway so it must work pretty well. I'm open for suggestions, but in my eyes a 4ag(z)e, ca18 or even sr20 are always going to be costing money. I would LOVE to stay with k-series but for the amount of money you put into them they just don't go hard enough unless boosted :bash: there's always the 18rg,2tg,3tc or possibly fj20, but because they are getting too old/rare its hard to find parts for them. If there's an engine thats cheap, parts are easily available and around the 100kw mark at the flywheel... please tell me! Hence why i said the ecotec v6
-
It's just what i've heard mate. I personally don't know how much the v6 weighs... all i know its an alloy block and its fairly light for a v6

Car Stalling, And No Oil Pressure
toyota_ae71 replied to chester_fb's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Got/had the exact same problem, except mine decided it would do it on the night of the bendigo show demo :bash: So got it home pulled out the old oil pump, got a spare pump and put 2 small washers in behind the spring to raise the oil pressure that little bit more, (theres a how to do in the FAQ) and it stopped doing it. -
yeah your probably right.... its only a club car and i'll prob try the occaisional winton run, I'm not looking to come first, just fun. Ive heard that the v6 commo engine is no MORE than 120kgs over a 4k. And our club dosn't really have rules against that kind of stuff that i have heard anyway. And as "sam_Q" said i could recess the firewall if i had to.
